GBBO started off as the best of GB’s *home* bakers yet every year the technicals get more and more difficult. It seems that Paul & Prue just want to show off to each other how much they know. Mary Berry is a fabulous home cook and is more interested in sharing knowledge than wielding it as a weapon.
i think another big part is as the series continues they are kind of forced to make the challenges more ‘interesting’. people aren’t going to continue to tune in when they do the same things year after year. its the nature of television nowadays 🤷
The fact that the cream horn James Acaster had to make is not on this list is just insane - the celeb ones are usually fairy cakes or fondant fancies or something 😂
I felt sorry for Rosie when she had to restart her choux and her pastry over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. I can understand how awful she must have been feeling. I love Rosie, I loved her when she was on bake off and whenever something bad happened to her, I felt so bad for her and absolutely gutted. I just felt like I wanted to give her a hug and reassure her that she was wonderful baker and she could do it.
It always seems like an Overflødighedshorn as it's called in Danish can be very hard to do if it's your first time, and even more if you have to make the marcipan for the kransekage from scratch. I think it's more commen in Denmark to assemble the rings with melted dark chocolate.
that campfire Pita challenge was absolutely crazy. Why would they even think that's a good challenge? Making a pita can be hard enough, no need to add cooking it over a campfire to it
I felt sorry for Rosie for having to start her choux and pastry many times over and over and over again. I can understand how awful she must have been feeling in that technical challenge. I felt just as bad as when I found out she missed out on a place in the final. I was gutted. I loved Rosie. She was, still is and always will be my all time favourite bake off contestant. I don't blame all the contestants for struggling. Technical challenges can be painfully difficult and frustrating and I absolutely sympathise.
There's room for improvement, including doing repeat technicals from years past. Some of the earlier ones were good and actually baking challenges, even if they had some difficulties mixed in.
It's cruel, they needed Bear Grylls skills to fix their fires, so they could do the pitta bread challenge. 🔥😁 As for soufflés that really mean. It's like trying to make a dress when you can barely sew. Soufflés are a chef skill, mean. 😒
Unfortunately, I've only seen the seasons that were broadcast on America's Public Broadcasting Station as I don't have Netflix, so I've sadly missed out on the recent seasons, but many of these challenges seem like they're more in the cooking category or confectionery category rather than in the general baking, bread or pastry categories. I can understand incorporating some cooking, like for fillings for vol-au-vents and the like, but it is a BAKING competition, not a cooking competition. The open fire pita bread challenge sounds like it didn't go well at all. Our ancestors would have cooked over hearths or open fires, but that is an entirely different skill set that takes years to perfect, including how to build and manage your fire, not to mention the skill in learning how to gauge the temperature by feeling alone. It sounds like it was done to intentionally make the contestants look foolish or to set one apart who might be skillful at campfire cooking.
It hurts my ears to hear the way this guy pronounces it! Every New Orleanean would be having a fit if they heard him butchering one of their most famous and popular treats.
One of the hardest challenges to me was that showstopper where they made something out of milk and had to keep stirring and stirring. Think it's an Indian dish
"bane-yets"? it sounds like they should resemble blades that can be strapped onto a rifle's barrel and muzzle. can be used to reduce the number of bakers in the group, maybe?
Wow, Paul has finally gotten “‘Baker’s Belly”’. Ah, age comes to us all. Paul has actually done very well in the weight department after being around food all his life (especially sweets).

It's pronounced, "Ben-Yaye" ok. Yes.

I still don't understand why they can't have portable AC units, blast freezers, or anti-griddles added into the tent. AC specifically.
@BeboRulz Because the show wants them to have to deal with the elements as an added level of difficulty
That pita challenge is something I expected to see on Masterchef, not on a baking show
that was so ridiculous and unrealistic!! Especially in the heat!
I most certainly agree.
GBBO needs to spring for air conditioning in the tent. It's not fair if the bakers are doomed to failure by the weather.
Or maybe do the competition in a proper building with actual AC? Better than trying to find a way to air condition a flimsy tent.
Or bees 🐝. In the junior version, there must be buckets of bees in the food, it’s just unsanitary and dangerous for the participants.
@lauraorem1276 They deliberately do it in the tent to add an extra variable for the bakers to deal with - it’s not a cost thing

I found Steph Blackwell to be so sweet and, in a way, so fragile. Not a bad baker.
I think the hardest or one of the hardest was the sarawak from series 9, with all the thin layers and geometric patterns.
that campfire Pita challenge was absolutely crazy. Why would they even think that's a good challenge? Making a pita can be hard enough, no need to add cooking it over a campfire to it
I’ve personally never liked the pita challenge. It has no place in a baking competition.
‘bay net’, im begging this channel to look up pronunciations before making these videos.
Being a Yank that has been to New Orleans several times (home of the beignet), I was cringing.

This is great and the correct pronunciation of pita , is pita, "peeta" not pitta, please.
It’s how it’s pronounced in the UK, Pita is American-English but Pitta is the British-English spelling and pronunciation.
Nice video! Would you do TOP 10 Great British Bake off spin offs?
It's BEN-Yay - not whatever they said for Beignet!
It's cruel, they needed Bear Grylls skills to fix their fires, so they could do the pitta bread challenge. 🔥😁
As for soufflés that really mean. It's like trying to make a dress when you can barely sew. Soufflés are a chef skill, mean. 😒
that pita challenge was a joke, hardly demonstrated baking skills by making a fire
The beignets are pronounced “ben-yays”, at lesst in New Orleans. Love them!
All this video did was remind of me of the injustice of Laura making the final over Hermine
Hermine was such a better baker, but homegirl served them a ball of rubber she had to go
I liked Laura, but she had way more mess ups and made it whilst Hermine was a bit more consistent and failed in the semifinals. Broke my heart really
Exactly! I understand why Hermine got kicked out, but still! I think Laura’s lucky she made it so far! She was so messy!

Awesome
Beignets are pronounced Ben-yays. It's french
Thank you for correcting that!!
It hurts my ears to hear the way this guy pronounces it! Every New Orleanean would be having a fit if they heard him butchering one of their most famous and popular treats.
I don´t think that´s how the French would pronounce it.
One of the hardest challenges to me was that showstopper where they made something out of milk and had to keep stirring and stirring. Think it's an Indian dish
Mishti
Chocolate Babka - I think I should have actually used caster sugar instead of granulated… filling was super dry and grainy
"baynet"
"bane-yets"? it sounds like they should resemble blades that can be strapped onto a rifle's barrel and muzzle. can be used to reduce the number of bakers in the group, maybe?
Wow, Paul has finally gotten “‘Baker’s Belly”’. Ah, age comes to us all. Paul has actually done very well in the weight department after being around food all his life (especially sweets).
It should be spelled "kransekage" :)
Please check how you pronounce the dishes - so many awful mistakes, even basic ones like soufflé and praline
Accents affect what you hear..
You should learn how to say beignet correctly
I’m over the innuendo and stupid smirks. We’re not q4 heartily boys and this got tired several season ago.
Bin-NEIGHS....not bin-nets
cool
if you're only going to include technical challeges why wouldn't you title it respectively?
I want Paul couch me!!❤❤❤
I fail to see why no 10 was ok challenge to do
Series 9 was kind of BS in terms of technicals...
So......only ONE Mary Berry-era challenge was considered top 10 tough?
The video is specifically for more recent seasons
@@jitaru3707 implied but not stated
Maybe she was much better at writing her instructions than the others! I miss Mary...still haven't warmed to Prue.
Beg Nets? Really?
I'm getting no volume at all
The pita thing was stupid
It’s run by the Americans now. That’s why it has changed. We love it but we’re not as nice as British people.
God these are boring. Tv is utter garbage. Let's see some proper UK stuff.
