You're right Tom I've used packbait with all kinds of different stuff. Most of the time I use jello but I also caught a lot of carp with the most basic ingredients. Oatmeal and a can or two of cream corn and I say it works just as good as any else.

Jello is all i use. And this year alone, i have caught over 300 fish. My coworkers who turned me on to carp fishing use all that crazy carp attraction bottles. And i have hit them in ponds lakes creeks and rivers. And you can use it without it staining your hands fyi. And i think the most ive caught in one night was 30 or more. Lets just say my coworkers hate coming with me now...lol
Congrats on your success! This year I probably caught a similar number of fish, and didn't use Jello once. I don't think your success is Jello related, but if it gives you confidence then by all means keep doing what you're doing. Thanks for watching!
Man i watch your video alot lately at work. I think it was you that made me try spicy stuff. I dont use it much but i wonder what it is that makes them bite. I hear Sriracha works well. But keep up the good work.@@OutsidewithTom
Thank you for the continued content during the winter. We have 2+ inches of ice now so I have a few months till open water. Ice fishing carp doesn’t work well 😂😂😂
I like the banana cream jello i caught my biggest channel cats and 20 pound carps on the banana flavored packbaits. Sometimes i just grind up old stale cereal and throw in in but i like using jello
I have a friend who exclusively fishes for carp and in the warmer months he adds salt to his pack bait and it actually makes a difference for him. Funny part is that he has a bigger channel cat than me and I have a larger common carp than he does.
I use himalayan rock salt in summer, it's good around spawning time..Normal table salt isn't good though...Smooth peanut butter is another great additive, carp go nuts for it (no pun intended) 😂
@@TakeOffV05 it's a bit of a hack here in UK as most private venues ban ALL nut related baits..My local tackle shop owner showed me a product about 10yrs ago though that he uses.
@ wow honestly just thought that maybe the carp in my area perfer it. Didn’t know that had to ban it in some places. A lot of people on the carp fishing subreddit have said that it can harm fish and that’s why a lot of fisheries ban it. But no carp I’ve caught I’ve seen floating around so I’m sure that’s just nonsense.
Dang, those rocks look scary. Since Carp have to eat all year and the Columbia River doesn't freeze, I wonder if the sloughs would still produce. Lol. At least I'd still be after them.
Hey Tom, I'm thinking about start carp fishing recently and here in Brazil we have lots of tilapia, so much so that they usually eat the dough, corn or whatever before the carp does. So my idea was: I made a worm with pink beads and a line in the middle to keep them togheter, used it in a hair rig. In your opinion, do you think it will catch something? I'm also thinking about dipping the worms into something sweet for some days before fishing. Greetings from Brazil 😊
That's very creative, let me know if it works. The simplest way I know of to prevent nuisance fish from eating your bait is to use a bait they don't want to eat. For me, Tiger nuts on the hair work well for that. If you don't have Tiger nuts, maybe just a couple of hard beads as hook bait alongside a method feeder. Something durable enough so the Tilapia cant steal the hook bait off the hair. Good luck!
I think using jello can actually hurt your chances of catching larger fish, or fish that are really focused on certain food sources during certain times of year. Pressured fish that see a lets be honest, pretty recognizable ball of packbait that they've maybe been caught on before, especially on very strong artificial flavors like jello, are much more likely to stay away from these baits. This probably becomes more prominent with age, as fish get smarter (and bigger). I also have had sessions where fish seem to be seriously focused on specific food sources, like mussel beds or bloodworms, and i have watched carp completely ignore my packbait to root around in the mud for natural food sources. I stick with pretty basic flavors, as breadcrumbs and cream corn seem to be a staple that nearly always works. I have experimented with adding fishy flavors, like some of the European pros do, and I definitely have caught on them, but it's not feasible to prebait with these sources unless you're going to buy or make fishy boilies. keep is simple, keep it easy, keep catching!
Tom I think that if you enjoy fishing and really pay attention to your act of catching , that’s in my opinion that would make you a good fisherman too have higher percentage of catching than normal person.🐟on
Supposedly if the wind is blowing in your face for a few days the fishing is supposed to be better but I'm too much of a wimp to have wind in my face while fishing. I think that works with gamefish though
I disagree, carp does see colors not in the same way as a human but they see colors. The color of the jello does some of the attraction as well as the flavor and sugar. Same with the mass produced flavors they add to the attraction with the flavor and color.
Hi Tom when it comes to bait every one is different your way it works like you said there’s been times you got lucky but there where days you got skunked 🦨I have seen fisherman through out every thing under the sun and no luck and another fisherman not far from them just on corn catching lots of fish so the bottom line is luck and fish tacking the bait so Tom don’t change your way or your videos just do what you are doing thanks 🎣👍🎣👍🎣👍🎣

I agree, the carp will eat just about anything!
Great video Tom
Glad you enjoyed it!
Summer night fishing is the bomb. Just hard to film at night.
I agree with the Jello Tom , its just a mess, hands red, gear red a real pain. You have some great fishing spots Tom, thanks for the video.
That's one nice thing about carp fishing, they'll eat just about anything so we can use whatever bait WE like best. Thanks David.

@OutsidewithTom i don't think flavorings necessary really it's just fun to use them

@@NeneValleyFishingyep been usuing peanut butter for a couple seasons here and haven’t looked back. All that oil floating around the water is key!

Strawberry jello, panko bread crumbs, and whole kernel corn…. Never let’s me down.
Great outing man!
Thanks 👍
I think it’s the gelatin in the jello the fish like, I don’t know if carp care if I use it but I can’t keep the bullheads away if I use to much.

I would think they would head for the deeper sections in winter, but who knows. Might still be a good time fishing even if not catching! Thanks Steve.

You matched my PB.
Jello is packed with amino acids and it’s what attracts the fish. For that you can use any color or flavor.
