The other CPUs chose to give the world to Nepgear instead of Arfoire, that's the main point here. Nepgear isn't bad, this is the less of two evils. A lone CPU is rather awkward though. If I were her, I'd create or obtain new CPUs for the world, then eventually stab self with that cursed sword and go reunited with the other 7 CPUs.

-Recruit all The CPU's/Older sisters
-View all The Demon Cursed Sword Events For All The Nations(Get Lowee,Lastation,and Leanbox Shares up to 50% Individually)
-Get Planeptune's Global Share Rate up to 55% Or Over
Just got this ending last night. I already knew about it and vaguely what it's about, and had already seen the slayer in Lastation, if you know what I mean. I knew it was gonna be sad but man, it's beyond all expectations.
It hurts, man it hurts. That sword cuts deep. I've beaten up the other Goddesses before in both Victory and the original, as well as in this one, but this time, it felt different. This entire chapter had a depressing atmosphere. Beating up the Goddesses who only wants to stay alive. The Planeptune sisters must have felt so bad when traveling towards their friends only to claim their lives.
And the poor, cute and scared little Rom and Ram, crying and being so afraid. This was painful to watch. After Blanc was dead, can you imagine how Rom felt when Nepugia dragged the sword out of Ram and turned towards her...
when Chika breaks down I got very sad too. I feel so bad for Nepgear, not only having to go through this but the oracles becoming so hostile and unpleasant, only thinking about their own losses and not how Nepgear feels. Imagine how Neptune feels when she takes Gear out, only to die. And Nepgear's hesitation before stabbing her own sister... It must have been so lonely for Nepgear in the end.

Oh the tears watching this...Curiosity had to get the best of me to actually watch the conquest ending and it's as devastating as everyone said. Exactly as Nepgear said, going from saving everyone to killing everyone...that instantaneous shift in tone just breaks your heart.

Blanc telling her little sisters to follow suit on getting killed...
Rom and Ram (kids) having to accept getting killed...
Vert getting the persistence beaten out of her to the point she's lying on the ground slowly and finally wanting death...
And Neptune taking Nepgear on a final stroll together before telling her to kill her...Neptune...the glistening, lively, most optimistic character making such a grim request so nonchalantly...
This ending has an insane amount of potential to build on.

Yeah I ended up completing the other original main games before this one (still working on it after seeing this), I kinda knew it would happen because of other games with bad endings..

You know, after watching and playing through this multiple times, each time adding upon my PTSD, I realized something. There was no better game to do this in than MkII/Re;Birth 2. Any game with Neptune as the protagonist seldom is taken serious due to how light her attitude tends to keep every situation. The game fits the main heroines personality. Same for this game. Throughout the game there are some fucked up moments, not just this ending. Nepgear’s less upbeat and confident personality makes having a more serious tone or even more serious undertones alot more natural than if they did it with the original. So an ending like this is actually perfect to go with the tone of the game. It’s sad yes, I still cant sleep properly after watching it, (Cause Im a lil bitch) but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a really good and fitting alternative end.
This is a great ending. Made Nepgear finally look like the main protagonist she was billed to be. Her hesitation? Gone and replaced with regret. Her emotions? A complete wreck due to her actions. Blood on her hands that don't canonically exist, but there nonetheless. This was the ending that turned a heroine into a legend.
I hated this ending. In fact it was the most painful experience i ever had to endure.

I totally expected the sword not working on Arfoire, because of how everyone said that it looks and feels like an old sword without powers. I thought it was Arfoire who spread those rumors hundreds of years ago and it was one of her back up plans to kill all the CPUs. So all the deaths would be for nothing, the party would loose and Arfoire would truly bring the apocalypse (like the chapters title).
But even with the ending how it is, it's already heartbreaking enough (especially the twins part). Props to the game makers to include such a shocking ending!
... Arfoire did state that people's desires for change may or may not revive her again.
To go through this...without crying, I got some nerves of steel... *sigh*

Also after playing Rebirth;2 and getting the conquest end in my 1st run i could no longer look at Nepgear the same again.(I didn't know about multiple endings at that time and Rebirth;1 was the 1st Neptunia game i've ever played.)

Neptunia games always have a "Good End" "True End" staple, but Re;birth 2 shocked me a bit with 5 (or 7?) endings. After all, I started with Re;birth 1 as well.
Re;birth 3 & Neptunia VII pretty much solidifies the characters' abilities to cross dimensions.
With the four new goddesses each one created a new nation in remembrance of these unsung heroes, however there's always the chance the dark goddess would return someday.... As long as her will for unity exists.

As sad as this ending is, I still don't understand why Nepgear's alternative solution was so crazy. I mean sure, it's normal that other CPUs wouldn't want Planeptune to take all their shares but, I mean they were okay with being killed. It's not like their nations lived on without them, so if the nations are going to be conquered by Planeptune anyway, what's the point?
Holy crap: who'd thunk that a cute game like this would have such a dark optional ending?
This ending is indeed depressing, yet I don't find myself disliking it (except for the sudden, abrupt cutoff to what serves as Nepgear's outro; I didn't feel is had enough closure).
Such an ending is one I would recommending getting last; not because it's bad, but because it's so out of place in a game like Hyperdimension Neptunia that you want to have the most impacting emotions experienced at the end; so that the game's last impressions remain longer, and that's something this ending does.
I have to wonder.... did they like take lessons from the Urobutcher or something?
This ending should be on the next top 10 Saddest Video game endings.

for the longest time i wondered why this game was rated M while the other 2 were T, i think this answers my question. this was soo depressing, i had the hardest time not crying while watching this, it was that bad. i haven't beaten this game yet but i sure as hell ain't going for high shares so i can't have this ending as a possibility ever!!

I started playing the first 2 rebirths and watched the anime over the last few months i loved it and heard there was an infamous bad ending to mk2 so i decided to check it out........I WAS NOT READY FOR THIS WHAT THE FUCK

Something inside me dies horribly every time I reminisce on this ending. I thought the English voice acting would make it look a bit weaker, but it doesn't take a bit of the drama.

As sad as it was, it did give me something to think about.
Games need to be memorable, and in the end, they are all just characters. Characters that were murdered, gone forever... Rom and Ram were so adorable, and now they're gone. Neptune is gone forever, after everything that happened.
And I thought Dishonored's ending was depressing.

Dood... I loved the concept but damn. This could have been much more powerful with a little more CG. Still, I'm a huge fan of dark twists and was immensely satisfied with this ending. Just as an aside, anyone know of any games with similar dark endings?

While I found the metaphor the ending creates about the gaming industry really nice, the entire ending itself was terrible. This could easily be the biggest depressing mood shift in this generation of gaming. I wonder if there is going to be one in MKV...and if there is...I really hope they don't try to top this one.

I saw the death scenes of the CPUs and the ending. To be honest, it looks like the story of Itachi from Naruto but better Itachi's story since she will be ruled and no one will know what she did unlike Itachi who been hated for a good deed until his death. Now that is a burdened death, here only doubt been created.

Alot of people saying this should be the canon ending but like...for a series that's all about its Comedic twist on generic tropes and comedy in general an ending like this at all is surprising. I was shocked to even learn about this ending after playing the first game. Then again the whole game kinda had a less goofy atmosphere. Think about it, tracks like "clapping" which was literallu dubbed "the theme of comedoc relief" got removed from the series starting here. So it was obvious that this game had a more serious astethic. The soundtrack was a bit more serious and the humor wasn't present as much in this one as the previous entry. Its different but not too different...until you get this ending. Then the game is like "FUCK IT! THIS ISN'T A COMEDY ANYMORE!" Leaving us all in shock upon how dark it is. Even in the remake where they try to make the lines less disheartening and serious than in the original its still sad as all hell. Point is, in a series where comedy and parodies are supposed to be a huge factor an ending like this would suck. Plus, if they went ahead and did the whole seperate universe thing like they did in the first game again I think I woulda been pretty pissed off.
Two problems:
A)The OG game was pretty dark in its own right
B)Watch Gintama. Just because you're a comedy, doesn't mean it cannot do drama. The term is "genre savvy".
@@OneManCast Well there's a reason why the OG game is regarded the worst in the series (other than the gameplay) and why everything after that was an improvement. It stopped taking itself too seriously and it was better for it.

This is pretty much the only reason why I don't want Re Birth 2 because there's no way I'm gonna want to skip this ending and I Don't wanna skip anything!

To think i was going to do this ending first before the True Ending...
In that way it is presented it is the worst bad ending I ever have seen. It is not bad done, but I was only feeling completely sadness and anger during the time I was watching / playing it . I never would go this route ever again.
I hate that all other CPUs / CPU Candidates are killed and in which way they are killed. Nepgear is my favorite CPU, but that does not change anything...
I have zero respect for this viewpoint. Its literally the same "This ending sad/angry so it be bad" bullshit. Newsflash: THAT'S THE POINT.
