I was an espresso repairman for 8 years, repairing commercial espresso machines. That little filter is simply a screen filter to filter larger particles from getting into the machine. Any screen filter you could find would work in place of that filter.
ours has been through about 5,000+ cycles over the past ~7-8 years ... just started leaking. one of the most solid things I've ever purchased. amazing video.
Just thought I would say because I had the exact same problem. Rather than order a new part or try to replace the house and filter... just fill the crack into the filter with JB weld. Did this to mine and waited 12 hrs and works perfectly. Easiest cheapest solution. Thanks for all you do!
@@AjusCafe Most normal epoxies are food safe once they are fully cured. Epoxies with extra additives might be a different story. You can generally check with the manufacturer to get full details on this point.
What a kind and valuable service you have done for those of us who have a Breville...I watched this video several times, but am too old and unfamiliar with working with all the wires and screws and nuts and bolts. Your description of the leak is exactly what happened with mine after 5 or 6 years; I have opted to make my espresso using a French press. Had my first cup this morning and it tasted identical to Breville's magical brew!!!!! All the best to you for having created this video!
Hey Aju - thanks for the excellent video. I followed your instructions to identify that my machine was leaking at one of the high pressure fittings towards the top of the machine - one of those 5mm O-Rings! I replaced it - no more leak! 👍
Thanks for this video. It gave me the confidence to open up my machine and then find and fix the leak I had. Mine was the very small orange o-ring atop the safety valve. eReplacements said the part was obsolete, so I just "did my best" at the local hardware store. The ID=1/8", OD=1/4", Width=1/16 ring did the trick! $0.30 and I had it done in less than two hours (counting watching videos, disassembly, trip to the store) and now I'm having an Americano and my counter is DRY! Happy.
Hey Aju! Thank you for this amazing informative video! The video angles were great and quality was fantastic! Also super easy to understand! These are a great machine and I've been meaning to try figure out why mine is leaking. When I get a spare moment I will definitely give this a go! Thanks again Aju, Also I am in Australia, if you ever need any parts please let me know and I can potentially send them for you.
Thank you for the feedback. I hope you find the issue addressed. Let me know how it goes. Thank you so much for offering me to send the parts. If i don't get any locally, i will contact you 🙂👍
Thanks to this video I managed to fix a second hand machine I bought that was leaking out the back on the left. I followed ajus steps (testing with top open and water tank on to see the leak). I found mine was leaking out of the small pipe feeding into the boiler. After taking the small pipe out the tiny rubber ring was broken inside. I replaced with a new one and now machine is fixed and has more steam power. Thanks!
Thanks for the great videos, figured out that my intake tube had a small rupture before the filter assembly, ended up grabbing a piece of hookah plastic that wrapped around the tube hole and used two zip ties to tighten them, now there is no leak 👍
Hi Aju, thanks for all your material about Breville Espresso Machines! It is really great!! I have Breville BES860XL Barista Express Espresso Machine with Grinder and once a plug the machine and I turn the switch I got a tripping breaker. Any suggestion? Thanks!
I've removed the small filter and replaced it with a straight hose, small bit of green PVC glue at the bottom. Those little filters are useless, they leak all the time.

Hi Aju, thanks for the great videos. My machine has also been leaking for quite a while and your videos are really helpful. I now have the confidence to attempt to find the leak. As I live in Australia, I believe the parts should be easy to acquire as I have purchased extra portafilters from them before. I'll let you know what I find.
Well, I finally got around to opening up my machine. I had to re-watch your video. Despite the pool of water under my machine I could not detect any leakage from any of the parts and there was no evidence of water in the area below the pump, flow meter or pre-filter. I re-attached the tank and ran the machine with the covers off and still found no leaks but noticed the rear right side foot was full of water, which is where the water has been pooling. I have also noticed that the small storage tray had some water in it, even though I was emptying the drip tray after every use of the machine and there was condensation above that area. I now suspect my water leak is coming from this condensation. I will take the covers off again in a couple of days and see if the foot has water in it again. Thanks for your great videos. Cheers, Mark
Hi mate, I've done the same still having issue, seems same as yours in that it's from the feet on right side. Did you try again and if you did did you find anything?
We are trying to take the back piece off and it's not coming off. We removed all the screws as shown on the video. What are we missing ? Do you take any screws off underneath?
Can try plastic welding to fuse the defects leaking. Temp controllable soldering gun works also and but a non temp adjustable one will fuse it also but result wont look as clean. Plastic gets discolored if higher heat used. Glue wont work or wont last. Low pressure line so the weld might/should work fine. Can also add some plastic to the weld as long as it is the same type of plastic.
I wouldn't recommend to fix it. New fitter assembly costs nothing and its free shipping from breville. Also who knows if the glue or welding is safe for the body.
@@AjusCafe Plastic welding does not change the plastic it just fuses it. Really no different from the heat that originally created it eg; injection molding. @@s96822 if its food safe then its ok. But its not worth doing it on filter Assembly. The actual filter in it is clogged and it will burst again. It is not designed to be reused.

My machine is leaking out the back. I’m going to follow your instructions and see if I can identify exactly where it occurs. The power trips occasionally when I’m making an espresso. Any ideas about what I should look for?
Open and look for water stains or obvious water drips. Mostly the leak is due to clogged pipe bettween boiler and pump. Afrer you fix you need to Descale few times. Water can leak into the main board. In that case its dangerous. If it failed then control box need to be changed. The white box.
Hi Aju , I got a water leak with my breville I open the machine while looking at your video, however the water supply line is broken, where can I get to buy a replacement, the tube is 5 inches long & there's a little spring inside about 3 inches long.
Hi Aju, that looks complicated and thanks for your help. I do have the double boiler machine, and I have noticed water leak coming from the back right side and on to the counter. Once I operate the machine for few days I see that the little tray that keeps the little tools and brush on the back right side of tray to be full of water. Is this an easy fix or a complicated issue. What do you think a repair shop in the US would charge to fix it and is it worth it or better buying a Gaggia or Delongi?
It could be a simple fix. Wouldn't know unless you open it. It could be a hose clogged, which you can fix yourself. Not sure about repair charges. Dual boiler is the best and can't be compared to others
It is an inline filter of some kind. It can get blocked from gunk in the water tank so I wouldn't omit it. Not sure how it split. Maybe manufacturing defect. For clear hose, a beer brewing retailer *might* have something. My machine was repaired at La Strada Espresso on Dundas West (and is still actually, there until I can go pick it up) and maybe they have tubing that would work. I guess this inline filter is to capture any dirt, incase someone forgets to connect the soft charcoal filter inside the tank. Yes its very strange how it cracked as there won't be any pressure on it normally. Maybe a defect.
Aju, thanks again for the awesome videos and feedback on my question. I did finally get the filter and tubing from Breville.
