On the throttle issue you are having, it is just a lock nut that needs to be tightened. The deck dropping can be fixed by tightening the nut on the bottom of that rod that adjusts the deck height. The fuel gauges have been a bit of an issue... I am a dealer so if you have any questions I am happy to try and answer them.

I have a John Deere 960m and love it. It came with the Michelin Tweels, full adjustable seat, 60” 7Iron deck and the 31hp Kawasaki engine. I have 220 hours on it (not allot, I know), but so far, I’ve have zero issues, absolutely zero. It’s been a great machine so far and in my opinion the cut quality is very good, and the machine is built like a tank.
I’ve had my Spartan for three years now and honestly I’ve gotten to the point that I wish I had bought a Scag. I have always had Scags but my dealer talked me into a 61srt. And I had a couple minor issues the first week I had it but at 30 hours things started to get annoying. Same throttle issue. Btw, just pop off the control board and tighten that thing up. There is like a plastic washer or something that breaks. Some people put new ones but I haven’t had a need yet. The deck scalping is a serious issue. Spartan has a part you can buy to fix the problem but my conception is why should I pay for their flaw. It should be a recall. There is a video on adjusting but it only helps so much. Another issue is some of the deck bolts coming loose and that will also cause scalping. I have to tighten my deck bolts every 20-30 hours. At 150 hours I started noticing a lot of welds starting to rust and crack. Screens go bad and you can’t start it. A few guys had rear wheel fall off when welds on rims broke. I will say with the suspension seat it raises The center of gravity and makes hills more difficult. Mine came with the standard seat and I finally just upgraded. I’ve had a few more issues I can’t think of at the moment. My dealer stopped selling Spartan because of a tiff with the owner and they had too many complaints. They have such a bad reputation around here that I couldn’t sell it so now I’m stuck with it. I finally said screw it I’d rather spend 15,000 on a turf tiger but nobody here wants a spartan
Spartan, by design, is like bad boy's goofy uncle. And you'll notice that the quality of bad boy has gone up while the quality of spartan is all weird stuff bad boy had before. Those deck cover bolts are seizing from corossion, essentially welding themselves to the deck.
I am looking for a good commercial mower. I live in the country and mow around 6 acres and it's not smooth and it's not flat. Current mower is a Steiner 61" cut with a 27hp liquid cooled Kawasaki and I've had it for 25 years and it still runs and cuts good. My issue is I can no longer get parts. I've been looking for a new mower and it's a little overwhelming. When I got my current mower there were only a few to choose from and now there are a bunch. I've looked at Bad Boy, Spartan, Bobcat, Hustler and Ferris. Do you have any recommendations?

Interesting about the Spartan. Did you talk to the dealer about it? Maybe they will replace the parts you had an issue with. Also they are coming out with a stander something you can demo. wish you well God Bless
Spartan has a few videos up on the throttle issue and the deck dial issue. Seems that once they are adjusted, the issue goes away. The fuel gauge can be replaced. The fuel gauge gets saturated. Sometimes you can take it out and let it dry out and it will start working. Other than little issues, Spartan makes a good machine that mows as good as it looks. :) Deck Height Adjustment Video: ruclips.net/video/X2XgqTaOe94/видео.html Throttle Cable adjustment Video: ruclips.net/video/v9nw7oV0GzU/видео.html
I have a 19 rt-hd 32hp vanguard 100hrs. Tighten the nut on the throttle lever...it takes a couple minute. Super easy. I haven’t had any issue with my deck dropping, but it is a known issue. There is a pin kit available, some dealers warranty it some don’t. THe 2021 will have a new design that will fix this issue. My gas gauge is working, though, i do have to tap every now and then. They are warrantied. I love my spartan and I’m glad I went with it.
Have the rt pro 54. I immediately removed that exit piece under the deck that chutes the grass out. I actually installed it on top of the deck incase the belt flies off it keeps it from going anywhere. The knobs, I cleaned them up with a tap n die and used anti-seize on the threads. I have my side chute completely blocked and mulch everything. In order to do that though I had to remove that angle piece to keep grass from building up too much.
Great video 👍 automotive tip of the week, when you change you brakes always remove the caliper pins and lubricate them with brake lubricant, it will prevent any seizing in the pin
A buddy of mine bought this same model. Every time it rained it would not start. Call the dealer and they would change out the push button box for it to start. He finally got tired of it and traded it off for another make. Said he loved the vanguard engine but that was about it. I think he was just frustrated at it.
As an entrepreneur, every day is a work day. May not be physical labor, but i always find myself doing something work related. Whether it be maintenance, paperwork, scheduling, or preparing for the work week, I'm always doing something. As far as mowing, I am not big on mowing on Sundays (unless 100% have too). Looks like that Spartan is starting to fall apart on you. Hopefully they're taking notes to further better their products. Good looking mower, time to strengthen the weak points. Great video buddy.
I have 3 of them and 1 with over 1000 hours. We brought them in and replaced Scag. We love them! The Scags were failing miserably, costing too much to maintain, and at 500 hours were done! The Spartans are the real deal.
I had to fighting my throttle lever up on my Spartan. The deck on mine has started dropping on its own after I greased it a few times I think the factory grease is sticky or from the looks of it I'm going assume it's white lithium ... I've removed that baffle on mine . I stuck it back on today to see how it does with the gator blades
Grab a hold of the fuel gage and turn it back and forth it will start reading again...the throttle has a nut under the plate to tighten up and it will hold, do not over tighten..the deck height adjustment knob has a tension screw on it to stop your deck from falling..
Hey mister Creekside my Spartan is 4 years old has a black face on the fuel gauge I just picked up a new Spartan and the fuel gauge face is white so if your gauge face is white I do not know if you grab it and turn it back and forth if it will make it work or not but it will on the black face fuel gauge
WHY SHOULD HE BE DOING ALL THIS SHIT UNDER WARRANTY RIGHT GOOD ZERO TURNS DONT HAVE THESE ISSUES EXCEPT THE FUEL GUAGE ISSUE CAN SEE THAT THOSE THINGS FAIL ALL TIME
The throttle and the ride height adjustment is just a tighten up fix. The fuel gage makes me mad. Such a simple thing should not be an issue. I have the metal covers and wish I had the plastic ones. Had to put lock nuts on mine after loosing 3 out of the 4 knobs. Other than that I love mine.
Scag's turbo baffle (option on several lower models) is more forward than your Spartan deck shows. I get a smoother cut without the turbo baffle but in 8" tall overgrown the turbo baffle is king and no buildup behind the baffle. The turbo baffle really makes the grass shoot out further than without the tb. Two bolts and you have it installed.
I have had to remove my "dash panel" twice in 100 hrs to tighten the nut on my Husqvarna Z554 throttle for the same problem. It only takes 10 minutes or so, but it is a pain.
My bad boy has the same deck adjustment love it we got the electric deck tho so im wondering if ill have this issue if i buy a non manual deck hopefully its just a fluke because like you said i got picky customers
I have a 61 RZ pro, i removed the pulley covers on mine and just use a leaf blower everytime i finish cutting to blow off the top of the deck, i also removed the two bolts and removed that insert under the deck, mine seems to discharge better with that piece removed.
The knobs on my deck was a pain too . I took a lock nut and used my drill to run it on and off a few times . Now there easy to get off when I'm using the factory knobs
the deck height adjustment is crap. I have not found one owner that has said good things about it. that is what keeps me from buying one. I demoed one and had the same issue and most of my lawns are bumpy. They should have just stuck with the pin adjustment like say a ferris uses.
My height adjustment was too loose and would fall every once an while. Brought it to the dealership and now it takes two hands to change deck height. But it hasn’t dropped again so that’s good. Make sure to check the covers over your belt covers. Mine fell off somewhere
My throttle did the same thing. I took the 4 allen headscrews off of the cover and sprayed some dry grease then tightened it on up... I haven't had to tighten it up since. I also unplugged my smart start box and used some dielectric grease. Helps keep everything from corrosion. I live down here in the south and the humidity is high. Never had my deck jump around. Can't help ya there. Something could probably be tightened up though. I've never had the deck hold up like that either. I grease mine all the time and spray oil around all the bearings and pulleys that I can. Wish it had more grease fittings though. I also put some anti seez on my cover screw knobbs. Never had any problems out of them. I can tighten them up tight as I can bare handed and they don't back out and come right off when I unscrew them... Appreciate your video though you pointed out some things... I've had my spartan RT HD since 2018. Haven't really had many problems out of it. Just them few. I mow probably way more then what I should be mowing with it but like anything if you grease it change the oil and air filters and take care of it it'll last.
Love the videos, been watching for a little while and have learned a lot from you. I bought a RZHD back in March, 23 hp Kawasaki. Cut quality just wasn’t there, left stragglers everywhere, worse in weedy yards of course. Yours may be better with the 37 hp. I had to readjust the throttle cable constantly to get the rpms back up over 3500. I hated that side build up as we’ll know exactly what you’re talking about. Loosen the side screws slightly connecting the deck to get rid of the deck holding on you. Also you look pretty tall, I’m 6.2 and had to get the deeper foot pedal, it’s only about 20 bucks or so and helps quite a bit on adjusting the height. Bottom line I ended up selling it last month at 85 hours and buying another Ferris instead from Michael and RC. Just had to get the better cut quality. Good luck with it and keep up the good work!
My 2022 54 has genuinely been a great mower for the price so far. Haven’t experienced any of these issues. I’ve had scag, grasshopper, gravely, and toro. I’m very pleased with this mower it’s still a “residential” mower so don’t expect it to handle commercial use like these other brands. I also don’t beat the shit out of my equipment. I’ve got a solid relationship with my dealer. They’re close with the company. Before I buy anything from them they don’t let me leave the floor without a tech completely servicing and reviewing the product whether it’s a set of trimmers or a full size mower. I believe toro settled a ton of common issues with these newer models. They’ve gotten much much better. Would still take this over a gravely any day though 😂
I’ve got 1600 hrs on all 3 and just now developed a bearing cover for top of spindles to help keep water out. I have probably changed out over 50 bearings with water being the main issue.
I have the same deck issue bumping out of height. I’m buying the front fork suspension to solve this but it shouldn’t happen. Spartan needs to fix this issue
Patrick Farrell I have a Spartan 54” RT With a Kawasaki FR691V 32 run hours and won’t run. Dealer says parts are back ordered with no end date. Spartan Customer service was no help with resolution and told me to take it up with the dealer. Very poor support and reliability.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I’m looking at many of these zero turns and it’s been overwhelming. I was leaning toward the Spartan for its ‘build quality’ and reasonable price. For an MSRP of at least $11k (2022) these issues are unacceptable. I read some comments below that seem to reflect similar problems, company apathy and questionable quality. I think I’m gonna look more closely at the BadBoy, Scag or even a Toro. I’m sorry you got inconvenienced because that sucks.
I have a Spartan rz hd with about 50 hours. Alot lighter than bigger models. Mine weighs like 800 versus 1100. Had nothing but great results so far. The new stand ons are noice!
I have the same throttle problem on mine. I use a bungee cord. Same issue with the deck adjustment. There are fixes that Spartan has for the deck on Spartan's youtube page.
Well I bought one and all the local dealers are now MIA. Has 9.8 hours on it and it beeps about every 45 seconds and the blades won’t come on. I’ve had a Wright, 3 scags, and this is the ONLY mower that has taken a shit before 10 hours. I don’t even know what I’m supposed to do. Take it to a scag dealership?! Lol what a joke!!!
I haven't owned a spartan but it has been my experience that ALL turn knob height adjusters have issues. I'm not a fan of them at all. I like the old fashioned pin height adjustment. That is deal breaker for me when purchasing. I've learned if you run a lot of ethanol fuel it will ruin the fuel gauge. i have seen that with other brands as well. I make sure to keep non ethanol in mine and haven't had any issues with that. Nice video and review.
You do not need to replace all the calipers pins. You can if you want take them out wire brush then get the crap off of it. check for the condition of the boots.. (those rubber black things). It would be good to take some break cleaner spray it inside the pin guide and get the junk out of it. Brake dust can limit the movement. They have some good stuff on Amazon it is purple and I got some. Just lube up the pins and put back in when you change the pads. Part of the brake change.
Well, was about to pull the trigger on one of these and damn sure will not be now. Thanks a ton for this review, I don't mind spending another grand or 2 to get something that I don't have to use a bungee cord on to hold the throttle. Also the deck dropping is huge for me and a definite deal breaker.
I believe those two knobs on the plastic belt cover are exposed inside the deck and are rusting and filling up with debris. You can have a metal shield attached to block grass and dirt from hitting it and solve your problem. Look under there and see what goes.
I have the RT HD 54”, those knobs are a bitch. I think they’re self locking, like a slightly oval shaped hole so they dont vibrate off. My throttle also immediately starts vibrating slower, had to jerry rig a bungee to hold wide open ( alway run wide open-cools motor better). And lastly, my deck sticks as well between adjustments.
They deck issues are the only real deal breaker. Rest of the comments section isn't great to see. Glad I watched. I think I'll avoid badboys deck knobs too
The throttle happened to my RTHD. Just needs to be tightened. Simple fix . Good review . Also the nobs. I went through pure hell unscrewing then with pliers one millimeter at a time . Try to keep anti seize or a really good grease . The bolts rust , best solution is to replace with stainless steal bolts
You got it work when it's not convenient but necessary!!! Just like anything, the Mower's made by man not God. No such thing, but it does cut nice, i get the clogging problem only with the mulching blades and people finally wanting a hair cut, for their grass lol. #ninjanation #ninjalife #ninjaforlife #sliceanddice #wapacha #LETSGETIT
I ran a die over the threads holding those knobs on. I honestly think the thread pitch of the knobs was different than the bolt sticking up. Come off easy-peasy now
for the throttle cable make sure that the cable does not have pressure because then it wouldn't keep it at the same place hope it helps you nick have a good day
Always learn something new in your videos! I’ll be keeping an extra eye on my trucks caliper pins this winter 🔧 🧰 great to see the 100 hour review, too. Seems like the basic mechanics are solid, but that deck height issue needs a hack of some sort to avoid what could be a serious issue. 🤔
Got a rt pro 54. Parker trans service . Parker oil bad expensive . Got filters off eBay , finely found the Spartan trans oil equivalent , per Spartan , I chose Castrol syntec 5w50 , takes 3 qts. Bought 6 qts on Amazon 50$. The keypad will start acting up !!! Needs changed in my opinion ! The new models also have Manuel choke (improvement too) . That fuel gage is a joke , they were putting a white plastic line on newer models to see the gas level. Also the spindle bearings gonna start roaring to fix . You can take belt loose and take pulley off drop blade from bottom with spindle shaft still attached , buy your bearing for few dollars . Dealer will rape ye on this to replace them . On the pulley covers put a rubber washer and tighten up knobs , helps with them vibrating out !! I typed enough .
Please take the Spartan in at first chance and video how they repaired all your issues. I'm needing a new mower and considering the SRT XD 61" like yours.... or the Ferris 3300X or Kubota ZD1211. Always wanted a diesel engine on a mower.... lol... Great video!
I have a 2020 RT Pro 61" and the belt likes to jump off when the PTO is started. I bought it new and it only has 47 hours on it now. Has anyone else had this issue? Some days it will happen 4 or 5 times in a row before it will finally stay on. I don't think I should have to replace a spring on a brand new mower.

@@evenfloseamless just curious how you fixed yours? I tightened the but to wear you can barely turn the dial and it still drops.
10:41 Throttle Problem.
I’ve seen that same issue in other reviews.
It's super easy to adjust to tension on that throttle. It's not broke, just needs adjusting
How many hours do u run one before u sell or trade in on a mower ?
400-600
the deck height adjustment is crap.
Which WRIGHT is that and deck size?
the dam things jumps an shifts heights, spartans answer was that i oculd buy an alternate pin system for deck height
Could you possibly run a bolt or hook through chute block. That way every time you shut the chute blot it will purge that buildup of grass.
I have the same deck issue bumping out of height. I’m buying the front fork suspension to solve this but it shouldn’t happen. Spartan needs to fix this issue
Patrick Farrell
I have a Spartan 54” RT With a Kawasaki FR691V
32 run hours and won’t run. Dealer says parts are back ordered with no end date. Spartan Customer service was no help with resolution and told me to take it up with the dealer. Very poor support and reliability.
where are you located and who is your dealer?
@@trevorpierce2396 dealer is outdoor powerhouse
No support is a deal breaker.
Just tighten the bolt on the throttle mine done the same think fixed the problem.
They have a video on how to fix the deck from moving.
How many accounts do you have? Also how many employees do you have?
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I’m looking at many of these zero turns and it’s been overwhelming. I was leaning toward the Spartan for its ‘build quality’ and reasonable price. For an MSRP of at least $11k (2022) these issues are unacceptable. I read some comments below that seem to reflect similar problems, company apathy and questionable quality. I think I’m gonna look more closely at the BadBoy, Scag or even a Toro. I’m sorry you got inconvenienced because that sucks.
Toro actually bought the Spartan Company in January, 2022.
@@chrishayden7016 Wow! I didn’t know that, thanks for the info. I knew they bought Exmark but I did not know they bought Spartan.
my throttle did the same i tightened just below the handle i also have the grass build up put some grease on the knob threads
Adjusting the throttle tension is super easy
A dab of anti seize on the spindle cover knobs will solve that problem for a long time.
Own 2019 exact mower and knob has switch on me usually only in the 2 3/4 setting.
My Spartan, spitting out of the exhaust. I have about 38 hours on it.
Love the review of the spartan! Good to see the pros and cons of it. 👍🏻
Makes me second guess the Spartan, deck height changes is a big deal for me...
@Calisthenics Beginner im checking out the Bad Boy Rouge 999 72"
@Calisthenics Beginner it and the Renegade has a new 3 link suspension and the front deck suspension... its like no other .... check it out.
They deck issues are the only real deal breaker. Rest of the comments section isn't great to see. Glad I watched. I think I'll avoid badboys deck knobs too
I also have that same engine and oil system on my Ferris is3200. NEVER a problem with the B&Sengine
I’m looking for a new mower , don’t know what to buy , need like a 54 inch and I want the Kawasaki motor (will have )a Kawasaki .
Here in 417 land Spartans are NOT used by us commercial, professional lawn care guys.
Thanks for the video! Yeah , poor engineering is obviously the culprit
I work at a suspension shop and we have siezed pins all the time
The price is far for these but I have a feeling they are horrible quality mowers . Maybe more for a home owner
Spartan over Cub?
Maybe use high lift blades. IMO. Never a reason not too
You got it work when it's not convenient but necessary!!!
New to the channel and I think its funny when he says "Ninjas"🤣
Sup Ninja 😏😂🤣👊🏻
I ran a die over the threads holding those knobs on. I honestly think the thread pitch of the knobs was different than the bolt sticking up. Come off easy-peasy now
for the throttle cable make sure that the cable does not have pressure because then it wouldn't keep it at the same place hope it helps you nick have a good day
I've heard more bad than good about the spartan mowers. So I bought a john deere z930m
My Dixie Excalibur will eat a Spartans lunch
Every time you fit new pads on you need to clean and grease those pins.
Too many problems! We have enough to worry about in our businesses..... i’ll stick with my Toros
Everything he talked about, except the fuel gauge, is a simple adjustment. Oh the knobs probably just need a little never seize
Got a rt pro 54.
Parker trans service . Parker oil bad expensive . Got filters off eBay , finely found the Spartan trans oil equivalent , per Spartan , I chose Castrol syntec 5w50 , takes 3 qts. Bought 6 qts on Amazon
50$.
Adjusting the tension on that throttle is supper easy
As a ninja you need to get that thing into the shop! 👍👍👍
Nice mower and great review! 👍🏼
JUST WATCHING THIS VIDEO AND LAUGHING HOW MANY OTHER THINGS CAN GO WRONG WITH UNDER 100 HOURS????????????????????????????????????????? LOL
Brilliant work and thanks for the content stay safe and take care
video starts at 9:00
Please take the Spartan in at first chance and video how they repaired all your issues. I'm needing a new mower and considering the SRT XD 61" like yours.... or the Ferris 3300X or Kubota ZD1211. Always wanted a diesel engine on a mower.... lol... Great video!
Scag
Awesome video brother. I'll stay with toro and exmark. It seems like a great mower
I haven't had that happen yet but a guy told me to make sure to engage the blades at half throttle to keep this from happening
@@stanleyhunter15 yes ALWAYS at half throttle on any mower really. Keeps blade bolts from over tightening as well.
Remove panel and tighten the nut and bolt...so very simple...
just the orange clone version.
Yes big. Thing on spartan
