This is the essence of NYC Hip Hop... Man I miss these days.
"Its the world famous Supreme Team Show. Supreme Team show, show, show" (echo fading out)
That jawn still a hood summer classic real talk.
💯👊🏾
Into Battle With The Art Of Noise is 100% one of the dopest albums of all time.
I had just included "Hey DJ" to my favorites last week! Great minds think alike.
Buffalo gals was a top 10 hit record here in the UK and probably was the first time many people heard scratching on the radio and TV as wheels of steel was not widely known outside hip hop audiences...Trevor Horn is a genius producer and a pioneer in many ways. I'm glad Anne Dudley is mentioned in this piece. Her piano playing at the end of Beat Box is a spine-tingling moment...Thanks for this episode Jay..hugely enjoyable
Thank you brother. I have all diversions of Beatbox. Incredible music...
This lesson covered so much in a short amount of time. As a Brooklyn kid in the 80s, I loved the Art of Noise and that Owner of a lonely heart record. We used to break to those joints. Thanks for showing how they were. connected to the World Famous Supreme Team and Malcolm McLaren, Jayquan. You are the anthropologist of Hip Hop culture. Salute, brother.
Respect bro. Thank you!
The UK and their 🎹 runs have always been Crazy! back in the day....
They the OFFICIAL FATHERS OF "THE SKIT"!!! The best and funkiest at it...WORD IS BOND!!!
Worlds Famous Supreme Team was so creative and they made hip hop master pieces
The Supreme Team...These GODS WERE THE EPITOME OF NEW YORK. Peace ✌🏿 To The GODS AND EARTH🌍. They are as Important to Hip-Hop as Water is To This Planet.
yes for real, blending in all kinds of music
Burton do you have any old tapes from the 80s of the rap shows??
Awesome channel. I grew up on hip hop. I'm 42 from Ohio and I learn so much from this about the music I grew up on.
Respect bro. Thanks for supporting!
I learn so much when you drop these gems.. Thanks again... As far as Trugoy not saying where he got the Award Tour hook... Maybe he wasn't trying to admit to something that they could sued for.... Maybe not... I know one thing, I didn't know where it came from til you told me...Peace!
I dont think that they could get sued, as they changed almost all the words. Who knows. Thanks for looking bro. Peace!
Dam Yo J-Kwon that straight fire wow. Just put me right back into the back in the day loving every minute of it good looks my brother bless you for keeping hip hop old school alive
Just Allah The Superstar & Se' Divine the Mastermind!! WHBI on Saturday night/ early Sunday morning after coming back from the Deuce sauced up.Listening and recording with a 40 and a slice from Nick's Pizza up the BX.Memories forever!!!
patrick y awww man, get a slice of Sicilian for me!!
@@TheFoundationhiphop Thanks for all you do.These videos/history lessons are the best....I got you on the Sicilian
WOW...Malcolm explain'n Scratchin' & Hip Hop at the END!!! The way he broke it down had them in the crowd head's effed up like: "what the heck are they doin' over there in the inner cities of NYC?" That speech right there probably causes a lotta UK heads to transplant to over here! Nice...Peace!
D'ya like scratchin'? My era, the real Original Hip Hop!!!!! Thanks FOUNDATION 😎
Word!!
Se Divine... I love listening to the old tapes/recordings of the World Famous Supreme Team Show... the original songs they would do "it's un-faaaaair..." (my favorite)... super classic, indispensable... also, Trevor Horn: genius... check out his Red Bull lecture...
Another super dope lesson! The World Class Supreme Team are definitely the unsung artists of Hip-Hop! And, 1984 was a phenomenal year for Hip-Hop, there were lot of gems released that year....
Another incredible Lesson. I started having flashbacks of 100 park and Kips Bay boys club in the Bronx. This music definitely raised the standards and quality of our cultures music. Thanks Jay
Peace & Respect bro
"I'm not a rapper, I'm a hustler. It's just so happen that I know how to rap". I'm remember that skit on one of Jay-Z's albums. That would perfectly sum up these guys, in which you can't knock the hustle. They weren't MC's, instead they were radio personalities who were like many of their peers at time engaged in hip hop. One thing I notice what stand out those most about these guys were their voices.
M
This is super dope!!! I'm from South Carolina and I'm a hip hop fiend. I remember in the early 80s my cousin from New York used to come down South with these tapes and I was hooked. I'm in my 40s right now and I wished that I had a chance to experience the essence of hip hop in New York City during that time...
This lesson is bringing back so much of my juvenile memories... such a plethora of pleasant sensory recall... So beautiful, so / still dope... your insight of the goings-on behind the scenes is unsurprisingly fascinating...
rbiznezz2 my brother. Hope to see you in DC soon....
Seein' this title...and being huge fan of the channel, and "Worlds Famous...", was gonna def watch later....YOUR comment made me stop & watch NOW! Glad I did...it was all that! Thx👊🏾 Class of '82
@@joealmeida4603 werd, no doubt!!! That's dope fam
@@joealmeida4603 wow. That means everything. Thanks brother
@@TheFoundationhiphop 👊🏾luv what U do! I'm seemingly chasin' mid80s-my 2yrs as a NY'er- glad I'm only 3hrs away. THIS helps.
...if Malcolm was a culture vulture...I give him a pass here...they really set the whole game up for Hip Hop.post 1982...them along with "The Message" and "Planet Rock" songs...Malcolm/Supreme Team/Art Of Noise production REALLY set the BAR...along wit' the other 2 jams!!!
That was a pivotal moment, in Hip-Hop. I'll add Rock It/Crazy Cuts in there too.
@ 48:32 LOL...OHHH JayQuan --> "WORLD'S FAMOUS" is a Hip Hop/Rap ALL DAY!!! This song (although 2nd to "Buffalo Gals" to Me; b.u.t. "World's..." is groovier) is STILL ahead-of-its-time --> No One has really duplicated this song's format for any "bangazzz"! You put on "World's Famous", and it will STILL have heads like: "this is definitely different!" I know everytime I hear this on the radio (like You KNOW NYC radio this week coming up...especially on Thursday...is gonna be goin' back to the Classics), the song transports Me "Back To The Future"! FIRE...
Its definitely a rap song. My point was that if you omit Divine's rhyme which comes right at the end, it's just a good piece of Urban Jazz....
@@TheFoundationhiphop Pardon Self...didn't see this...Ehhh...LOL...I mean: when I first heard it...I think it was early sunrise on the radio...it woke me on time to get ready for school...I remember! I thought it was "Hip Hop"...b.u.t. maybe more in the sense of the "electro-funk" [I think West Coast's is called "electro-hop", or vice verse...]...some "breakdance" ish...b.u.t. it was HOT!!! Then, when it broke down...I immediately thought of Art Of Noise...and then I heard the Voice: I was like WHOA!!! What the heck is THIS???" Then he mention McLaren's at the end...and I went WILD..."THEM BUFFALO GALS DUDES" [I didn't hear the INTRO chant until later time...LOL...which would have gave it away to Me early as to who they were]. I had the Buffalo Gals single and use to just take it to school with Me...LOL...long story short...LOL...I personally always seen it was Hip Hop from the jump...it was jus' different because "Buffalo Gals" had already gave Me the sense the Sound was changing again! No disrespect..."Planet Rock" Is a Classic and changed the game, b.u.t. I feel I can arguably state the combo of "Buffalo Gals/World's Famous" is an equal...and can be said "based on your info here in your vid" gave us the sampling era...esp. mid to late 80s, 90s, and even today!!! Sampler techniques and "Skits"!!! Them 2 songs together...Peace! LOL...forgive "so long" as usual...
This is the only thing I've got to look forward to on this blazing hot day!! much appreciated jay!! keep'em coming! thank you for all that you do!!
Where you at? It's hot in the UK but comfortable! I'm going to Spain in a few days and it's gonna be blazing!

I don't know much about the Supreme Team! I will in an hour!
Definitely, if it was NOT for this Group...HIP HOP would NOT have really popped off like it did!!!
I thought there was only one Supreme Team in Queens ran by Preme.
@@legendary9689 that's supreme team underworld version, but 2 different preme teams
Justin coe oh ok
Just got the notification. Already hit the LIKE button.
OMG!!! I had no idea this is where "WORLD FAMOUS" the BEATNUTS sample came from. Damn Jayquan 25 secs in already it's a winner.
Yo this site is no joke he's always on point straight fire
World Supreme Team Show, they irradiate a lot of fun, a lot of funky freshness. Crazy that a british redhead from UK and ex manager of the pioneers of british Punk, was who show this masters to the world (Sampling pioneer Trevor Horn also). *The music in "World Famous" song sound so street and 80s elegant* . Great Video..necessary.
Ok, Mclaren contributed to several scenes; I am awaiting his memoir, he was an alleged svengali as a manager. God Bless the dead, only reinterating history. Enough heads might be unfamiliar with him as a(n) (punk rock) impresario. J, are you gonna have shows, about where hip-hop intersects with punk? (I HATE MOST modernmainstream (c) rap, it is so base, venal.)
Basically, I jumped the hip hop ship for punk years ago. Modern rap, is a mind fuck. I do not deny, punk, too has its "dark side." However, punk, continues inspiring me. I find mainstream rap deader than hell with its monotonous lietmotifs.
To me, punk has a much broader palette.
Once again Jayquan does it again....A Dope Dope Dope Dope documentary on the World Famous Supreme Team....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....no video before it and no video to come....complete Masterpiece...!!!!!! ORIGINAL GEM.!!!!!!!
Respect!!! Thank you..
Thank you so much for doing a lesson on the WFST and Malcolm McLaren . Buffalo Gals is such a groundbreaking record, and was the first time I heard scratching. It’s the reason I am a DJ.Salute Jay!
Respect bro! Thanks for looking...
What up JayQ! A little trivia...all the music on Hey DJ, including the background voices were done by Reggie Griffin, who was featured on THE MESSAGE with the synth lines & most of the instruments on WHITE LINES by GMF & GMM & he also was nominated for a grammy for his arrangement on I FEEL FOR YOU BY CHAKA! And he was the reason why Mel ended up on the track! And he was my producer on just about all the tracks on my discography tab on my website, THEARTISTPHILJC, Check out the tracks & credits below each song by THE KINGDOM. Some of those tracks are still dope! PJC!
Ok, didnt know that. I know that Bunny Sigler had something to do with the bassline, and he was over at Sugar Hill too. Interesting.
@@TheFoundationhiphop Yea Bunny was there but REGGIE played the Bass & most of the track on WL...
Great video again sir, informative as ever. If I could add one thing that I don't think you mentioned in the video? Can we give love to Anne Dudley? She is co credited on most of the songs mentioned and is a key writer and founder member on The Art of Noise records. Her keyboard sounds and composition skills really add to the records - it's probably why she got the writing credit. If you haven't heard it already, I would recommend listening to her recent record where she goes back to perform piano versions of here old AofN records.
Oh, and I think the stereo sound is a reference to the old late fifties/sixties stereo sound, where wide stereo was essential to make up for the limitations of most stereo systems the records were played on. Given McClaren's love for that sound I've always presumed that it was a deliberate callback.
Anyway, thanks again. Very enjoyable.
charlieblimey I definitely mentioned Anne a few times. On the World Famous song, and as a member of the Art Of Noise. No question. Didn’t know she had new work out. Going to buy it immediately!!
I was speaking of mono vs stereo in respects to the old Motown era of mono recording last where the drums are in one speaker and the other instruments in another. Thanks again for looking!
May the light of knowlege continue to shiiiiiiiiiine
The Foundation indeed...
World's Famous are the fathers to the BOMB SQUAD's production sound...Dr. Dre during NWA...DJ Pooh with King Tee and then with the Boogie Men and DJ Sir Jinx (Lench Mob days)! WOWZERS...and Pooh is My DUDE!!! Then RZA's Wu madness...the production...the sound!
2:00 I just knew you was going to mention Ol Dirty Bastard using the part from the girl who called and said "I like the way you talk". ODB used it on Shimmy Shimmy Ya.
Oh baby I like it raaaaaaaw!
BEFORE I EVEN WATCH IT BRUH.....THANK YOU! SALUTE!!!

I Hit like before i pressed play i grew up listening to bootleg tapes of the world famous supreme team as a kid in the early 80's .
When My moms brought home the EP that night from NYC...I put that shit on at 8 yrs old...I knew Buffalo Gals and World's Famous...I put on "D'Ya Like Scratchin'?" --> I AUTOMATICALLY KNEW HIP HOP was in its TRANSFORMATION STAGES!!! "D'Ya Like Scratchin'?" was like the ULTIMATE sleeper "game-changer" song! I, personally, used to feel funny when I heard it on the radio...it was like a song that everyone "secretly" loved! lol...
HipHop is truly a gift from the Most High. I’m truly humbled by the origins and evolution of this subculture.
Good job as usual bro! You really took me back to my 60/ 90 minute Maxell TDK days. 😃

And that Award Tour piece on Hobo Scratch, yo I did not remember why that was so familiar! Dam! 😲
Im from Chicago, I never heard that song. Now I see why De La used it for the hook on Award Tour.
I Used To Hear All Their Stuff On WHBI, as Well as Cold Crush, Fearless, Crash, Treacherous, Furious.... ... I Remember Coppin' The Buffalo Gals 12 inch In '82. I Was 12 At The Time, and Everything About That Record Amazed Me, Even When The Cuts Dragged. Side 2 Got Just As Much Play, Hobo Scratch, Even Buffalo Gals Traditional Square. Remember The Laughing at The End When Malcolm Said "Take Your Baby In Your Arms, In A Nice Chair? LoL.
Very informative. I had no idea Malcom Mclaren was a white cat.... Keep up the good work sir

I remember my dad buying this in 84 -83 I think, it was rare to get
Definitely. Not super rare, but not extremely plentiful in the record stores.
Before I even begin the watch --> OMG this My favorite group of ALL-TIME! Buffalo Gals/1982/8 yrs old CHANGED MY WHOLE LIFE!!! I had the righteous name "Du'Quan Allah" written down on the labels of records (like my fav "Sugarhill Groove"...LOL)...then around 1991/2 is when I got with a brother who was spit math and 120...I did not recognize it until about a year later that's what the Gods from the World's Famous Supreme Team were...with the "Mason" Malcolm McLaren (R.I.P.)! NOW...I watch...LOL!!! WOWZERS!!!
Thanks for this, I really appreciate you!

Hobo scratch is just amazing!!! Trevor horn made some great music and really mentioned he's like another bob James!!
great job as always..👍🏾👍🏾.....it really was great to be in the middle of all those early times...se' & jus (for me) are extremely important to those early times..they literally brought "the block to your box".. everyone knew thee enlightenment when they came on & 1..2..3..peace when they signed out. I thought you were going to mention Dr. rock & the force though
I remember being the first one with buffalo girls and putting my speaker in the window but when I want to go back to early 80's hip hop, I'll play the joint from World Famous Supreme Team.
Just finished this one, you are producing quality videos of hip hop information. How can our people support that V garbage, he exploits in a negative way.

I enjoyed this lesson, a lot of those Malcolm McLaren cuts from 1983 still sound fresh. Off topic but you should youtube a Whodini song called "Do It Again" which was released in the 90s but I don't think it was really ever released to the public; they tell the story of hip-hop from their vantage (up through the mid 90s) and it's a cool sounding song, lots of shout outs in it too
Yes, that's from the Raiders Of The Lost Art album..
I want to hear it.
Fantastic History as usual Jay. I think that Malcolm was lucky to find these guys. They were wild. Singing, rapping and just funky as hell, when the show was live. TOO MUCH OF THAT SNOW WHITE.
I agree! The planets aligned when he found them, and Trevor Horn and Anne Dudley came aboard....
Damn didn’t think I would listen to the whole hour plus but once I started I couldn’t stop......good stuff brother!
Thank you brother. None of my videos were supposed to exceed 15 minutes. My Rakim video was half an hour, and I was really reluctant to post it. The fact that people listen to me for an hour plus is both humbling and amazing. Thank you again...
Run dropped after. For sure. Its crystal clear in my mind.
Peace Jayquan, thanks for the Memories, I never thought that those days would go away.
