Assalam Alaikoum dr. Yaser. Jazzakom Allah Khair for this beautiful series. May Allah reward you, your team & your family’s elferdaws elala. Note regarding pronunciation in Arabic.
Important Notes of The Message of The Quran Part 16: Surah Al-Anbiyā' and Surah Al-Ḥajj Section-4 Personal note: This is Section-4 of the Notes. Section-1, Section-2, and Section-3 are commented in different comments as the notes are too long to be commented on in one comment. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. The personal note ends... Contents of Surah Al-Hajj - Permission to fight the Quraysh: Surah Al-Hajj criticizes those who stop people from doing Hajj. The reference here is the Quraysh who prevent Muslims from living peacefully in Makkah and performing rituals near the Kaaba. (22: 25) Indeed, those who persist in disbelief and hinder ˹others˺ from the Way of Allah and from the Sacred Mosque-which We have appointed for all people, residents and visitors alike-along with whoever intends to deviate by doing wrong in it, We will cause them to taste a painful punishment. This shows that the people who live in Makkah don’t have any higher status over others. Makkah is for everyone who comes to worship Allah. Allah defends the Muslims. (22: 38) Surely Allah defends those who believe. Certainly Allah has no love for the perfidious, the thankless. That is why Allah reveals, for the first time, an Ayah that gives permission to fight the Quraysh. (22: 39) Permission (to fight) has been granted to those for they have been wronged. (22: 40) those who were unjustly expelled from their homes for no other reason than their saying: "Allah is Our Lord." If Allah were not to repel some through others, monasteries and churches and synagogues and mosques wherein the name of Allah is much mentioned, would certainly have been pulled down. Allah will most certainly help those who will help Him. Verily Allah is Immensely Strong, Overwhelmingly Mighty. This shows that one of the main reasons of war is to protect and ensure the freedom of worshipping Allah. This was especially the case in Makkah. So we affirm the Just War Theory. All this shows that fighting is permissible in a very limited manner and only for the right reasons while applying the guidelines of the Shariah. Allah praises the righteous people who happen to be in power. (22: 41) (Allah will certainly help) those who, were We to bestow authority on them in the land, will establish Prayers, render Zakah, enjoin good, and forbid evil. The end of all matters rests with Allah. Contents of Surah Al-Hajj - Concluding Passage: Allah destroys the argument of idolatry by simple human observation. (22:73) O people, a parable is set forth: pay heed to it. Those who call upon aught other than Allah shall never be able to create even a fly, even if all of them were to come together to do that. And if the fly were to snatch away anything from them, they would not be able to recover that from it. Powerless is the supplicant; and powerless is he to whom he supplicates. The second to last Ayah tells Muslims what to do. (22:77) Believers, bow down and prostrate yourselves before Your Lord and serve Your Lord The Surah ends by reminding us that Islam is not a new religion that just made up. Islam was the religion of every Prophet since the beginning of the mankind. (22:78) Strive in the cause of Allah in a manner worthy of that striving. He has chosen you (for His task), and He has not laid upon you any hardship in religion. Keep to the faith of your father Abraham. Allah named you Muslims earlier and even in this (Book), that the Messenger may be a witness over you, and that you may be witnesses over all mankind. So establish Prayer, and pay Zakah, and hold fast to Allah. He is your Protector. What an excellent Protector; what an excellent Helper! The phrase “هُوَ سَمّٰٮكُمُ الۡمُسۡلِمِيۡنَ” (He named you Muslim) can refer to Ibrahim(AS) calling us Muslims or Allah calling us Muslims. Either ways, Islam has existed from way before and it is nothing new. We are told to turn to Allah for protection and help. This ends Section-4. Section-1, Section-2, and Section-3 will be posted in different comments. Anyone who thinks I have missed some point is welcome to reply but please give the time in the lecture when Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi talked about it so that I can be sure. JazakaAllah Khair
Ahmad Kamal Kamal Wa Alaykum Asalam. Sheikh mentioned early on in his lectures that most of his translation is from himself and also The Clear Quran Dr. Mustafa Khattab
Assalamu alaikum 22:78 From Tafsir Ibn KATHIR هُوَ سَمَّٮٰكُمُ ٱلۡمُسۡلِمِينَ مِن قَبۡلُ وَفِى هَـٰذَا ﴾ (He has named you Muslims both before and in this (Qur'an),) Imam `Abdullah bin Al-Mubarak said, narrating from Ibn Jurayj, from `Ata', from Ibn `Abbas: concerning Allah's saying, ﴿ هُوَ سَمَّٮٰكُمُ ٱلۡمُسۡلِمِينَ مِن قَبۡلُ ﴾ (He has named you Muslims before) "This refers to Allah, may He be glorified.'' This was also the view of Mujahid, `Ata', Ad-Dahhak, As-Suddi, Muqatil bin Hayyan and Qatadah. Mujahid said, "Allah named you Muslims before, in the previous Books and in Adh-Dhikr, ﴿ وَفِى هَـٰذَا ﴾ (and in this) means, the Qur'an.'' This was also the view of others, because Allah says: ﴿ هُوَ ٱجۡتَبَٮٰكُمۡ وَمَا جَعَلَ عَلَيۡكُمۡ فِى ٱلدِّينِ مِنۡ حَرَجٍ۬ۚ ﴾ (He has chosen you, and has not laid upon you in religion any hardship) Then He urged them to follow the Message which His Messenger brought, by reminding them that this was the religion of their father Ibrahim. Then He mentioned His blessings to this Ummah, whereby He mentioned them and praised them long ago in the Books of the Prophets which were recited to the rabbis and monks. Allah says: ﴿ هُوَ سَمَّٮٰكُمُ ٱلۡمُسۡلِمِينَ مِن قَبۡلُ ﴾ (He has named you Muslims both before) meaning, before the Qur'an, ﴿ وَفِى هَـٰذَا ﴾ (and in this.)
I've noticed that the Sheikh almost never uses the words 'verse' or 'chapter.' Instead he uses words such as 'passage' or 'paragraph.' I find it interesting, anybody know why? May Allah increase him and us in knowledge, Ameen.
Because he’s not going through the Qur’an verse-by-verse. He’s going through the Qur’an topic-by-topic. Sometimes Allah addresses one topic in 5 - 10 verses so it becomes a paragraph.
Sir I am following this series and Mashallah this is so informative. Just a small suggestion, can you please slow down as you narrate? I think it’s a bit hasty. Sorry it is what I feel. I really appreciate your hard work behind this project. May Allah swt reward you for this Nobel work. Jazakallah 😊

And [mention, O Muhammad], when We designated for Abraham the site of the House, [saying], "Do not associate anything with Me and purify My House for those who perform thawaf and those who stand [in prayer] and those who bow and prostrate. 27. And proclaim to the people the Hajj [pilgrimage]; they will come to you on foot and on every lean camel; they will come from every distant pass

And permitted to you are the grazing livestock, except what is recited to you. So avoid the uncleanliness of idols and avoid false statement, v.32. That [is so]. And whoever honors the symbols [i.e., rites] of Allah - indeed, it is from the piety of hearts.
• why certain rituals V.67. For every religion We have appointed rites which they perform. So, [O Muhammad], let them [i.e., the disbelievers] not contend with you over the matter but invite them to your Lord. Indeed, you are upon straight guidance
• V.37. Their meat will not reach Allah, nor will their blood, but what reaches Him is piety from you. Thus have We subjected them to you that you may glorify Allah for that [to] which He has guided you; and give good tidings to the doers of good.
• Allah criticize the quraish V.25. Indeed, those who have disbelieved and avert [people] from the way of Allah and [from] al-Masjid al-haram, which We made for the people - equal are the resident therein and one from outside - and [also] whoever intends [a deed] therein of deviation [in religion] or wrongdoing - We will make him taste of a painful punishment
• Allowance for fight under certain conditions. V.39. Permission [to fight] has been given to those who are being fought, because they were wronged. And indeed, Allah is competent to give them victory.
• Why war or fight v.40.
• Allah praises the righteous v.41.
• Allah gives a parable to idolaters V.73. O people, an example is presented, so listen to it. Indeed, those you invoke besides Allah will never create [as much as] a fly, even if they gathered together for it [i.e., that purpose]. And if the fly should steal from them a [tiny] thing, they could not recover it from him. Weak are the pursuer and pursued.
• Allah commands the believers V.77-78. O you who have believed, bow and prostrate and worship your Lord and do good - that you may succeed. 78. And strive for Allah with the striving due to Him. He has chosen you and has not placed upon you in the religion any difficulty. [It is] the religion of your father, Abraham. He [i.e., Allah] named you "Muslims" before [in former scriptures] and in this [revelation] that the Messenger may be a witness over you and you may be witnesses over the people. So establish prayer and give zakath and hold fast to Allah. He is your protector; and excellent is the protector, and excellent is the helper.

The personal note ends...
Contents of Surah Al-Hajj - Permission to fight the Quraysh:
Surah Al-Hajj criticizes those who stop people from doing Hajj.
Contents of Surah Al-Hajj - Concluding Passage:
Allah destroys the argument of idolatry by simple human observation.
(22:77) Believers, bow down and prostrate yourselves before Your Lord and serve Your Lord
The Surah ends by reminding us that Islam is not a new religion that just made up.

From Tafsir Ibn KATHIR
(He has named you Muslims both before and in this (Qur'an),) Imam `Abdullah bin Al-Mubarak said, narrating from Ibn Jurayj, from `Ata', from Ibn `Abbas: concerning Allah's saying,
(He has named you Muslims before) "This refers to Allah, may He be glorified.'' This was also the view of Mujahid, `Ata', Ad-Dahhak, As-Suddi, Muqatil bin Hayyan and Qatadah. Mujahid said, "Allah named you Muslims before, in the previous Books and in Adh-Dhikr,
(and in this) means, the Qur'an.'' This was also the view of others, because Allah says:
(He has chosen you, and has not laid upon you in religion any hardship) Then He urged them to follow the Message which His Messenger brought, by reminding them that this was the religion of their father Ibrahim. Then He mentioned His blessings to this Ummah, whereby He mentioned them and praised them long ago in the Books of the Prophets which were recited to the rabbis and monks. Allah says:
(He has named you Muslims both before) meaning, before the Qur'an,
(and in this.)
21:9
I've noticed that the Sheikh almost never uses the words 'verse' or 'chapter.' Instead he uses words such as 'passage' or 'paragraph.' I find it interesting, anybody know why?
May Allah increase him and us in knowledge, Ameen.
I do hear those words
Because he’s not going through the Qur’an verse-by-verse.
He’s going through the Qur’an topic-by-topic. Sometimes Allah addresses one topic in 5 - 10 verses so it becomes a paragraph.
Sir I am following this series and Mashallah this is so informative. Just a small suggestion, can you please slow down as you narrate? I think it’s a bit hasty. Sorry it is what I feel. I really appreciate your hard work behind this project. May Allah swt reward you for this Nobel work. Jazakallah 😊
You can choose to slow down the speed of the video 🙂
