I bought it, it is perfect!
The reharmanization on this one is insane. I love it.
Is there a way to purchase this recording in a higher resolution? :D
I purchased this arrangement and transcribed it for my brass quintet. There are brass arrangements out there, but this is the one I like. Excellently done.
These small cars sing really well

i saw the thumbnail and thought "smart way of singing with social distancing" XD
Thought, and was going to comment, the same. :D
Oh my gosh. This comment made my day. lol
just liked and disliked, didnt want to ruin the 420 :D
3:09 Imagine getting into your car and hearing "mm whatcha say" right before you get in.
You'd probably think you're about to die.
💀💀
This will probably be the final song to go through my head because of memes. It could be worse.
"Dear sister, by the time you read this, I'll be dead..."
That's some Marissa from the OC trauma there
What most choral arrangements of this song miss -- but you people nail -- is the *delay*. Imogen wrote her lyrics specifically to mess with delay: slurring some phrases, clipping others off, so the reverb seems to come and go thruout the song. It's all a big experiment to see what she can make the vocorder, harmonizer, & delay pedal do to her vocals. You've really captured her sense of play in this rendition.🙂
I thought the delay messed it up.
@@kaiserchief9319 It is present in the original. Too many vocal renditions of H&S hit every note in sync, and that's not faithful to the source material. It's like people who sing/play Round Midnight but omit half the key changes. Suitable for a cruise ship lounge, I guess. But it misses the whole point of Monk's composition.
Four dislikes are people that had to find another parking space.
its 1 month later and they were the only ones
It's gone up to 10... i guess its the kids of the parents that couldn't park. el oh el @@shardninja
i’m one of them and it’s because the notes were kinda off and so it sounded weird to me.
Zian That’s how the original song sounded because it was made with a voice distortion device. The song was meant to sound weird like that.
@@zian1182 I don't agree but I respect that you gave your thumbs a voice. I personally think most covers of this song are flawed. If they're not...somehow the song is done wrong. In a weird way I think the impact of that makes it really great.
out of all the a cappella and choirs on youtube none nail the "trains and sowing machines" "oh you wont catch me around here" overlap as good as this one.
Thank you so much, this means a lot 🥺
Nice alto low note at 2:50! Can’t believe no one has mentioned it
Sounds almost like Tuvan throat singing.

Is it considered a hard feat ? (genuinely curious)

Oh boy, what a tribute to Imogen! One of the best arranged covers I've heard of this song.
Thank you so so much!
@@FifthStreet Yes, I'm dazzled by the arrangement, too. I wonder if Imogen has heard it. What a beautiful tribute to her amazing song. Really loved this, thank you.

I know this comment is 4 years old, but if you're still there, could you please link me some other arranged covers of this? I found a few, but they are all inferior to this one.
Yes!! Chilling!!
My mom's dying in a hospital bed right now. She has early onset dementia. She can barely eat, she can barely drink. She can't go to the bathroom on her own anymore, she can't walk. The only time I can get her to smile is when I show her a picture of her favorite dog. I'm pretty sure she doesn't remember who I am. I've been feeling completely destroyed for the last year. Your song just brought me out of it. So beautiful. Keep going. You were an oasis in the desert for me today.
Knowing I'm not the only one going through a tough time helps me feel less alone. I can't pretend to imagine what your heart is feeling but I'm glad you can draw some comfort from this song too.
My heart breaks for you. I can't imagine my mom not remembering me. It can happen to anyone though. My grandma began experiencing symptoms of dementia, but thankfully they went away once she moved into an assisted living community and didn't have the stress of keeping up with her house and watching my grandpa grapple with cancer and heart problems. He's gone now, but she's doing much better.
I’m sorry for your loss. My grandpa got really bad towards the end, and while part of me regrets not going to see him before he passed, I wouldn’t have been able to handle it if he didn’t recognize me as he and I had a very unique bond that he didn’t have with any of his 12 other grandkids. My heart aches for you, truly. 💔
@@noellemarceau7349 Have you heard the song Legend by twenty one pilots? I think you would really love it, it's something I listened to the day my Opa died.
@@ifyouloveChristyouwillobeyhim I have, as a matter of fact. Great song. And I'm sorry for your loss and sending love as well. ❤

Music is art man. And just like a painting, anyone can say that it’s about this and that, but the artist themselves will tell you that it’s whatever you think it means
If I remember correctly she said in some montage of discussion this song was a reflection partly of the tragedy off 9/11'
Actually Imogean told on one interview that the song is about painfully losing someone.
It can be a divorce of you and life
Maybe I'm weird but every time I buy a new pair of earphones/headphones, I'll test it with this song.
3:21 dear GAWD that sweet little touch of vibrato is everything I needed tonight
I literally had no idea what this song was until “mmm what ya s-“. My recognition was immediate at only that point.
You may be thinking of Jason Derulo’s song Watcha Say in which he samples Imogen’s original version of Hide and Seek.
Isabel Stover Wow... you really do learn something new every day... thank you! 😂
Knowing the original vocoder origins of this track, I find the different attacks among the parts super interesting. I love the tight harmonies and overall balance. Dope work
It's a bit of a different approach, perhaps more of a traditional acapella approach. I'm not sure if I like it personally, would prefer it if all of the voices came in together.
I find it sounds great exactly because they are emulating the vocoder timbres rather than making it sound like Pentatonix or Glee.
I really appreciate the fact that they emulate the vocoder so well. That’s always been part of the appeal of the original for me, and Fifth Street nails it, whereas countless others fall very, very short. I think I actually listen to this version more than the original at this point!
The separate attacks are fantastic. Reminds me of Eric Whitacre’s Cloudburst.
I feel like when it comes to singing, ppl find vocal success in who can hit the highest notes, but this rendition honestly showcases lower notes in a way that you can't help but listen in breathtaking awe. Both bass and contralto ranges shine here like a soft mist that dances around the soprano's light. So beautifully done!
100th like, love this apt summation of what they've done here
I'm so glad someone finally mentioned this. It's angelic and transformative to hit the high Soprano notes but it's absolutely important to bring in the goose bump giving warmth from those supremely low notes. This is also why you see such a higher success for this song with a mixed choir or a highly trained women's choir. It makes my soul soar when they hit the highs and also let those melted honey low notes prosper. 😍
@@echorussell3127 Yeah, and MAN, can that Alto (especially in this piece, and one other) do that, or what? Her voice has a richness in her lower range that is hard to define, but I LOVE it. Not many people are blessed/work toward a voice with that level of that particular quality, MHO. And the lightness the Soprano achieves in the stratosphere is killer, too. Then there are the arrangements.
That and it compliments the effects/vocoder of the original making their a cappella rendition something special in its own.
Holy shit this is the best cover of anything I’ve ever heard, and I’m normally not that into a capella. This deserves at least a thousand times the views it has now.
Absolutely, we need to push this
Really, "not normally into a Capella"? I subscribe to this channel, but JIC you don't know of these others, here are some other REALLY excellent a Capella groups/songs, and a couple of solo instrument pieces. If you take a minute or two to 'audition' them I hope you enjoy, and maybe I can even change your stance on a Capella at least a bit ALL of these artists and groups do a lot of tremendously varied music, you will NOT hear the same thing over and over again if you go watch their channels. Ultra talented people tend to be like that, from my experience, as is Fifth Street :-):
ruclips.net/video/lLGLUSzzuWU/видео.html
ruclips.net/video/6ys4Q1PO5ek/видео.html (listen through, this showcases the individuals and the range in styles/feelings, etc really is broad here, if you like it try their shanty, too...and Grim Grinning Ghosts, Phantom, etc. Geoff is another absolutely spectacular arranger)
ruclips.net/video/3MteSlpxCpo/видео.html
Here is a bit more traditional type, this bass is awesome...Smoooooth. With a Motown medley (they graduated from the same school as Take 6):
ruclips.net/video/ErxabKW63bk/видео.html (varies a lot, throughout)
And bases don't GET any smoother than this, MHO. This guy sounds more like an instrument than a voice when he wants to.
ruclips.net/video/e4pZDAMsv5Y/видео.html
I know of many more, just ask if you are interested. I spend wayyy too much time on YT. Or for any other genre/instrumentation/etc if you are interested.
Piano? Check this out, an absolute voyage, from fiery to gorgeous, and humorous (the ending 'chord', wonder how long he practiced THAT?). This takes me from chill bumps to tears, and back again:
ruclips.net/video/I4GXUrYtEzY/видео.html
And here's is the absolute best 'listen to your request on the phone, iff (yes, that was intentional) he doesn't know it, and play it back' with incredible on the fly arrangements. The first piece here is, I think, 10 loops deep, ON THE FLY, and he's never heard the song! If you want to hear just a piano piece from him search the cute blonde requester, same video, the last one I think...gorgeous, the music, and the blonde:
ruclips.net/video/4zMLaix8Zto/видео.html
How about an original composition from another SPECTACULAR pianist, This guy plays excellent jazz, etc. as well, and tours:
ruclips.net/video/ED0G_Vm9vMA/видео.html
Guitar, at 15 here (I think, no more than 16, anyway). How about a SIMULTANEOUS Bass/Guitar solo that won him a $1500 guitar from Charles Berthoud? I love his enthusiasm and sense of humor as well. This dude is operating at about four times his years, top world tier category:
ruclips.net/video/qhdzcEEUygg/видео.html
When people say "there is no talent out there today", I wonder if they know how to operate a search engine. There is FARRRR more stellar talent out there than there has EVER been. There is even talent in the pop category, believe it or not. Look at Bruno Mars Grammys performance from last year if you don't believe it.
Here's a Frank Tedesco original etude. If you play piano, give it a shot (good luck, unless you are a pro, and if you are you will enjoy it). This is a favorite. If you like it and want to hear more, search his name and Wanderlust for a full length set of original work. Oh, and just in case you aren't musically savvy, etude means, essentially, exercise, why this is written as and named an etude should be inherently very obvious:

This is a few of hundreds of links/favorites I watch, some over and over through long time periods.
Those high and low notes were phenomenal. This performance brought me to tears. Thank you.
I love how the notes feel out of sync but are actually perfectly placed. The dissonance and missed rhythms are oddly comforting. Almost like a commentary on the perfect imperfections of life.
I’m not crying, you’re crying.
We're all crying man. This shit is like Colt 45 - it works every time.

The way the rhythms differ between the melody & lower voices sounds so technical/machine-like, totally evokes the vocoder- excellent attention to details in the transcription!!
I like how with their vocals make it sound like they are actually using Imogen's autotune suit on a lot of parts.
It IS autotuned.
It’s not autotune, it’s vocoder. But I agree. I love how well the vocoder is emulated here. Beautifully done.
Yes I know it wasn't autotune, couldn't thing of Vocoded due to it being like 3 in the morning, but yes her suit is also still a prototype I believe. Not sure, a recent Interview had her saying it was a prototype suit that would change vocals, pitches, and sounds based on body movent and poses.
Dogfacezombie it’s actually not a prototype anymore. She’s done seminars and even a TEDtalk with/about the new gloves and suit. It’s come a LONG way.
@@noellemarceau7349 I don't watch Ted talks and the last i heard was the video explaining it's a prototype. Sorry

Where are we?
What on earth is going on?
The dust has only just begun to form
Crop circles in the carpet
Sinking, feeling
Spin me around again
And rub my eyes
This can't be happening
When busy streets
A mess with people
Would stop to hold their heads heavy
Hide and seek
Trains and sewing machines
All those years
They were here first
Oily marks appear on walls
Where pleasure moments hung before
The takeover
The sweeping insensitivity of this
Still life
Hide and seek
Trains and sewing machines
Blood and tears
They were here first
Mm, what'd you say?
Mm, that you only meant well
Well of course you did
Mm, what'd you say?
Mm, that it's all for the best
Of course it is
Mm, what'd you say?
Mm, that it's just what we need
You decided this
Mm, what'd you say?
Mm, what did she say?

Mid-sweet talk, newspaper word cutouts
Speak no feeling, no, I don't believe you

How did I not hear this before now? Why is my face wet? So beautiful. Love this song, unbelievably faithful arrangement and execution, even the delay caused by her Vocoder use incorporated. Wow.
The guy with the deep voice is so talented and soothing (sorry for lack of proper vocab)

This is electric. Don’t ever think this music isn’t powerful. What a great cover. You absolutely captured Imogen’s feeling.
Very thorough brilliant cover. I love good harmony. They knew the assignment and executed it well.
That's some quality bass. Good work!
It's 2021, I'm still loving it
Right? this song will never die
I get chills every time I hear this song. Especially the "blood and tears" part. Such a sad and beautiful song. Great rendition!
Thank you so much!! We are totally obsessed with this song
Came back again to listen. this deserves way more views.
Damn y'all nailed this. I love the slight delay from when some of the harmonies come in replicating when she hits the keys. Phenomenal
Not only is this a beautiful, picture-perfect rendition of Hide and seek but it also has the quality of making you realize just how incredibly talented Imogen Heap is to be able to pull this performance off as a solo live artist. She is quite literally doing the job of 5 singers with just her keyboard and baseline voice.
I'm 4 years late but WOW. Such talents!
i have never heard a more perfect singing. i am old and i have been listening since before i was born.
Been 4 years since I last listened and it still makes me cry; it’s so beautiful
This is a f*cking masterpiece. Listening over and over, finding a single voice and following it through out the song… man… every one of you had beautifully crafted tone that rose and sank at just the right moments, slipping in and out so that another voice could be felt in passing. Seriously amazing.
I absolutely LOVE the fact that you can hear certain voices at different points of the piece shining through. It doesn't have that overly edited and homogenized sound that so many popular a cappella groups have now'a days. So beautifully done!!
Never would have thought it possible to capture the original a capella but this was amazing.
Amazing. Shivers down my neck and tears in my eyes.
The high note damn.
That high note! Amazing!
I wouldn't expect anyone to try to cover this amazing song, let alone NAIL IT like this. Just great.
This makes me tear up ever time not sure why, makes me think of loved ones gone away and days past but beautiful too.. God bless and help all hurting people.
Beautiful. The lyrics ring so true in today’s reality. Singers are even social distancing.
I truly don't understand! When I heard this for the first time I didn't check the number of views, so then after I finished, I thought it would have a lot of views but then I checked and I just don't get it! You deserve so much more!
It's the best cover I found. Love it. Thank you.
That was REEALLY good. Wow!
I absolutely fell in love with this cover of my favorite Imogen Heap song, and this has become my favorite cover of this song. Ya'll nailed the delay, harmonizing effect, and reverb that she uses. I liked and subscribed to your channel.

You should check out the version by Transit. Also a capella, five people as well.
Now that I've listened to numerous renditions of this song, I give Fifth Street the award for BEST, MOST SKILLED, and MOST GRIPPING version of Hide and Seek. Fantastic job!

Actually this is not my kind of music genre, but Imogen Heaps "Hide and Seek" is one of a handful of songs which I can listen to over and over again and not getting tired of.
And you five guys did a damn good version of this song!
I know this is about divorce between parents but recently I had lost two close family members in the same day. This song has finally brought me enough feelings to cry a million tears and I thank you for that.

This gave me full body chills and brought a tear to my eye. Absolutely beautiful
I can’t imagine how amazing it felt to be a part of this in real life! There’s nothing like making beautiful music with other people 🥲
I just remembered Imogen's song today for some reason. My mind told me to listen to her song. So I looked, then found your work through a fleeting moment in my memory of a time long gone. Thank you for a beautiful rendition. Love your work! THANK YOU!
goosebumps on "still life". This is excellent
Yes! Also in the lead up to that, the way they come together at "insensitivity", drop on "of this", then collectively breathe in unison, "still liiiiiiiife". It's so satisfying.
This is one of the best pieces of music I’ve ever listened to.
I remember the first time I heard this song I was on tour back when I used to tour the world as a career musician. This definitely took me back to things I was seeing around me, things I was feeling and experiencing during that past life. Thank you.
The original is an absolute beast of a track. It takes a lot of confidence to go for something like this, and a ton of skill to pull it off so well. Lots of impact, and several extremely impressive moments without ever falling into the trap of getting flashy or overblown. Y'all really showed a lot of restraint and grace, which elevated the performance, and the arrangement has a very clear sense of purpose that lets it feel organic but never messy. Excellent work.
This is awesome. Probably the first group to figure out the tempo correctly. I think this one really has to be done in studio with headphones or similar, probably why it’s done this way.
This is amazing! Total goosbumps. Must listen with headphones
This song and especially this arrangement fill a really specific craving that no other song can even touch.
uhh, the goosebumps.. definitely frisson..
Well very good job, babes! I'm proud of YOUUUUUU
This is stunning
Took commenter’s advice and popped on some good headphones . In tears it’s so good.
Ahhh that makes us so happy!! Thank you!!
I'm floored by this. I've been looking for a group to figure out how to do a decent a cappella cover of Hide and Seek for years, and every version I've found has fallen flat. That search ends today. Your arrangement is spectacular, your performance superlative, and whoever is doing your sound engineering/mastering is a genius. The fact that your group has fewer than 10K subs is absolutely criminal. IMO this arrangement is the best cover of this song, bar none.
Unreal. Sitting here in awe. Thank you for this.
It's been a million years since the first time I heard this song. But it's as beautiful now as it's ever been.
