  • It is an unfortunate truth that Mexico has for so long downplayed, or white washed the contribution of Afro Mexicans to Mexican culture. Mexico's suppression of its Afro Mexican roots has lead to many often overlooking Mexico's second president, Vicente Guerrero. Vicente Guerrero not only served as president of Mexico, but is also one of the heroes of the Mexican war for independence.

For real. I just told my Uber driver about Vicente Guerrero and he literally cried. He was happy I told him about Vicente Guerrero.

I'm Mexican and I had never heard of Vicente until my history course this semester. I'm actually writing a paper on him right now about the erasure of his story from history, so this video was very helpful!

I imagine that although Guerrero was not white, it was his intelligence, charisma, and alpha energy which caused his rise to power.

Vicente Guerrero parents' racial makeup is debated. Some say his mother was African some say his father, as well some others saying one of his parents were mixed already. One thing is for certain though, he was mixed and of a brown complexion.
