as someone who has extensive RE knowledge, when it comes to the newer remakes, I do truly recommend starting with RE2 remake and even though it wasn't nearly as good I still recommend RE3 remake as well then play the masterpiece that is the RE4 remake. Also RE7 and 8 even though they aren't 3rd person they are still incredible. Honorable mentions that fit that survival horror style of game similar to RE would be Dead Space Remake and DS2, I do truly recommend Alan Wake 1, and even though the first game is a little difficult I highly recommend the Evil Within 1&2 especially 2.
You can check curse rooms by just pausing as you enter to see if there are any enmies for health and just walking out if there are none so you dont have to waste tp's
