George Friedman is the best speaker. Succinct and clear, focusing on a few important points that are based on historical fact. Very eye opening and different than most speakers and thinkers.
Friedman is always good with dates, highlighting certain key dates, and their importance. He has also identified the great weakness of two of the worlds largest economies - China and Germany(EU). That they are export economies heavily reliant on their foreign customers, not domestic markets. It is a great strength (it is the reason they are so wealthy), but also a weakness.
I’m Portuguese/ American and fully support Donald J Trump I wish we had a MPGA ( Make Portugal Great Again) Campaign we need a Donald J Trump in Portugal! Proud of Mr Devin Nunes being part of MAGA!
The new issue is that “history is doing its thing” but this time it’s slam dancing with nukes. Therefore we now are facing an existential crisis. With AI swiftly on its way. It’s time the country come together and intentionally form a new global order before chaos and destruction takes this opportunity away. We need to call on our leaders to come together and bring the other nations in together and begin a conference to choose a way forward with intention. I thought that is what the UN was for. To help avoid future conflicts before they arise. It’s time to be progressive and put the reactionary aside. Our time to come together is running short the hour is late. Who will call on our leaders to lead NOW before it is all too late.
This panels (except Dr.George Fridman) are very weak personnels to held this conference.. Portuguese publics either...not prepared for this kind of discussion and have lack of understandings in english too... SAD
1:14:08 on the Middle East: "So this is what happens in a region where no one cares"- this sums up brilliantly and bleakly the utter amorality of geopolitics.
Friedman constantly avoids the Elephant in the room, especially regarding the Middle East. The Military Industrial Complex and US corporations with economic interests in every area he talks about. How can you talk about Geopolitics without addressing these two single most important aspects of US foreign policy is astounding. This goes on for almost 2 hours, but every talk he's involved in, he totally avoids talking about the impact of the US Military Industrial Complex and US corporations. Hard to take him seriously.....
The reason why he does not mention it is because it is irrelevant. States are not separate entities from groups that reside within them, and by virtue of residing there by design, they have the same geopolitical, strategic interest. That means that they have to obey the rules of reality or they will perish. MIP can fulfill its goals only by aligning with the general interest of US and riding it. They can change minutia, but not general direction. If MIP would not exist, US interest would not change and US would be doing roughly the same thing. That is the beauty of geopolitics as a method of thinking about the world-it is irrelevant who rules where, what political system is there, what ethnicity lives there, what is their culture and beliefs or ambitions. In face of reality, their range of action is limited, and constraints dictate what is possible. By studying those constraints you can forecast and explain what will happen and what happened and why. That's why Friedman is not that interested in MIP, or Trump for that matter. The Trump policy is following the same trail as Obama's, he is just using different tools and concentrating them in a different manner. It is qualitative, not quantitative difference. analysis of MIP makes sense only if you want to study constraints even further when you want to have a much lower resolution of your understanding because you want to have a smaller time scope of your analysis. Of course, sometimes inside state group can have interests opposing interest of the state; however, MIP is not like that and therefore its influence is not that important, just like analysis of former and present KGB/FSB agents in Russia is irrelevant.
I know! I was surprised how he (briefly) discussed the economic cycles and the Fed without pointing out the fact that the Fed Reserve is a central bank and the only reason we have recessions every 7-10 years is because we have central banks.
I vehemently disagree about saudi being center of sunny world mecca medina yes further than that saudi arabia is a artificial nation created and maintained by us power and money
The notion that the current era is one of declining technological innovation:. The shift to battery powered cars. The rise of autonomous driven transportation including over the road trucking. The dawn of fusion energy. All these things are revolutionary.
All those things haven't happened. We have reached the limits of what is possible with lithium batteries and no alternatives are yet known, so that technology has stalled. Autonomous driving doesn't change anything, with or without your input you will still arrive at your destination. Please direct me to a functioning fusion energy reactor, we've been at the 'dawn' now for quite a while.
