After a lot of thinking for a fey-wild one-shot I thought: I wanna be the white rabbit from Alice in wonderland, with a golden pocketwatch and the fey-ability to mess with time. I am running a game for my 3 young daughters, and one HATES time travel stories. She's playing a chronurgy wizard to be the one in control. I'm throwing some of the ribbon abilities from the clockwork soul sorcerer to add flavor and some potency.

Awesome video, very informative! I did want to mention that “save or suck” refers to the enemy must save, or else they suck. Not if the enemy saves, the spell sucks. It’s a step down from the old “save or die” spells.

Thanks for yet another character build. I save these vids for when I've got the time to pay attention, but they are really awesome for recurring NPCs since I have a good idea of how they operate, have flavor to go with it, and a variety of character sheets so they can improve along with the characters.

Thank you for this character build! I made an Eladrin Chronurgy Wizard build. As the time changes, so is the seasons, hence the race. Fey Step is a nice touch too. His Arcane Focus was a Headphone with a portable CD player that was a gift from his father that travels thru time and another plane. And my DM let me flavor the spell as “Fast Forward” for Haste, “Cancel Play” for Counterspell, “Rewind”
For Silvery barbs, and so on. 😄

I absolutely love this build and how you rebranded all spells as time-themed! Also, as a support character with limited offensive abilities they don´t seem OP.
I´ve opted for a custom background I found online (Time-Lost) and created a background story about them being a scientist from a future that has gone pearshaped, looking for lost knowledge in the past to rebalance their world´s society, but getting trapped in time. They´re looking for their lost scientist accomplice and working out why Time itself sent them to this timeframe. I added star maps and interdimensional charts in their possessions for flavour, and gave them a Forgotten Realms dead language proficiency from a past long gone + Tinker´s tools proficiency.
Btw, I know it would be totally MAD but starting with 1 lvl of Clockwork Soul would be really flavourful and Restore Balance is quite powerful. You´d give up 1 point of dex, but it might be worth the tradeoff, especially since you directly get CON saves proficiency. And later you can take Skill Expert instead of Resilient.

    • @WallyDM

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the character build. And, nice! I really dig that background for your character. Well done, seems like it will make for some interesting stories in-game. And, yep, I like the clockwork soul idea too. I might have to tinker with that at some point. Cheers!

Hey love your build, the only maybe Idea I would like to add are 2 spells I used as a time wizard. 1 is a level 5 spell called steel wind, which does 6d10 to up to 5 creatures within 30ft of you and lets you teleport near on of your choice on your final hit. I played it off in my campaign as stopping time and moving so fast that you hit the creatures with kinetic energy of your body moving into theirs. It saved me when I was surrounded by a horde of zombies.
The other spell is a level 2 spell Maximilian's earthen grasp. I flavored it as a grandfather clock appearing and its hands of time reached out and tried to put the creature inside itself to restrain it. Lots of fun and control at early levels.

It’s a really cool concept and I’ve been thinking of doing a chrono/time mage for a while now. Thank you this really helps me with my build. I was wondering, what do you think of adding in ‘Catnap’ as a spell that basically means you get the benefits of a short rest in 10 mins for you and your party meaning you get your arcane abeyance up again as well as the wizards normal ability to regain some spell slots on a short rest? You could also take the find familiar spell and use that to use the ‘arcane abeyanced’ spell for you and it means you can use time spells that require touch in combat without actually having to be in the midst and in danger? I thought of an interesting combination of using immovable object using your familiar to stop time around an object an enemy is wearing/carrying meaning they can’t use that object or armour anymore meaning the rest of your party can deal with them and seeing how it was your familir concentrating on the spell you can cast another debuff concentration spell on the enemy or keep up the concentration of haste on the barbarian/fighter. Sorry this is a bit of a long comment, I just wondered what your thoughts on it were. I love the video though keep up the good work. Looking forward to trying your builds out in my games!!

For mine I actually main-classed in clockwork sorcerer and only took 2 levels in wizard to get the chronal shift. Getting to bonus action mind sliver and then casting slow or even mindsliver again is a nice combo. Taking away advantage and disadvantage is perfect and with Tasha's optional features I can use sorcery points to reroll ability checks. In my custom lineage I took lucky instead. I've only built him up to level 7 but I'll probs put the next level in sorcerer just to get that nice third quicken spell and then go full chronurgist. Mirror image makes you pretty much untouchable with all your time rewinds, and because lucky doesn't actually take a reaction you can use lucky to make an attack miss you and still use your reaction on silvery barbs.

Oh my goodness, I'm glad you mentioned this! This version of the time mage is my SECOND recording. The first time I recorded the video I went 6 levels of Wizard and then dipped into 3 levels of Clockwork Sorcerer because I wanted the Restore Balance Feature AND be able to Twin cast haste. Also, with Clockwork Sorcerer, we can have our eyes look like clocks, which is really on theme. I ultimately decided to go straight Chronurgy Wizard for the final video so I could review some higher level spells and the 10th Level ability of the Chronurgy Wizard. Super cool that you brought this up. Cheers!

Theorectically with arcane abeyance you can give it to your tiny servant. Put Wall of force into the bead and give them the instruction to use the bead when they see me cast Sickening Radiance or cloudkill. Microwave your enemy as long as they don't have disintegrate. teleportation magic, or counterspell.
