Definitely going to steal dunamancy and give it to my villains in Ravinica because that's the next setting I am running games in :)
I am curious about a cleric of Luxon with some dunamancy spells or domains.

@@DustMonkey92 here we see a man from the Empire trying to undermine dunamancy. I see you, you Dwendalian saboteur
@@DustMonkey92 Adding to this, as you age you stop having as many genuinely "new" experiences, which causes your brain to "gloss over" much of your day-to-day life, causing you to feel like time is moving faster. That's why it's so important as people age for them to continue to be active and try new things so their brain registers new memories, as doing so helps against Alzheimers.
This is also why you remember your childhood summer vacations as lasting much, much longer than they felt like as you got older, because everything is "new" when you're a kid which means each day feels different, thus causing you to reflect back on those memories with more clarity and giving the experience of them being "longer" than the days when you're older and a lot of the day-to-day is monotonous or repetitive.

Matt Mercer is so mesmerizing when he’s talking, it doesn’t even matter what he’s talking about.
It's because he's behind a DM screen. It brings out his power.
Draconian Draco his power exceeds far beyond the powers of a DM screen
In Australia, a duvet is called a "Doona" so the image I had in my mind is the modern mage wrapped up in a duvet hopping along and complaining about the cold and "why did you wake me?"

Matt Mercer may be the worlds first Dunamancer based on how his life has changed so many around him for the better. As Robert Jordan would say, he has a strong thread in the tapestry of time.
I understood that reference!
I feel like Jordan would start to say it, but Sanderson would finish off the sentence.
@@josephg3462 oooh that was brutal.

Seeing Matt talk in this interview while behind the DM screen in the CR room is disorienting LOL. Feels like a CR episode but it's just them in an interview.
Same same... My brain has to calibrate.
I’m convinced that his DM screen is some cursed artefact that he can just summon at will
To me it actually felt really wonderful. I've been binge watching Campaign 2 until I caught up at about episode 85/86. This whole scenery feels so familiar, cozy, warm and "at home" to me. I actually really like these interviews because of that. XD
That's his space where he feels comfortable and confident, seems like the perfect place to do an interview :)
I agree. It's weird seeing him on a full screen and not the smaller pip like usual.
I want to see Sam's version of this promotion... yes, I very much want to see that!
I eagerly await Sam's next bit this Thursday.
Don't get me wrong, Sam is extremely talented, but I tend to find his ads more annoying than anything, so I, personally, hope they let Matt annnakunce this
Guys d and d beyond
Sam’s ad bits are going on too long for me. To me he’s running those jokes into the ground and then beating it like a dead horse
I can't wait for it lol.
i was like “why would i want this book, i don’t wanna make a cr fan campaign” but now i really want it just for the dunamancy
In another interview with D&D beyond Matt said he tried very hard to make sure the book was not only for CR fans but it also useful for non-CR watching D&D players who wanted to play in a different world.
Seçkin Adıkdı don’t get me wrong i’m a big cr fan, i just don’t like premade campaign settings that much
Dunamancy is super cool.
It's actually really interesting that Matt should compare dunamancy to being a chess player. I bet he's aware of the drow's favorite pastime Sava, which is a chess-ish game. But once, ONCE per game, you can roll a die (i forget how many sides). If that die lands on the symbol of a spider, the player gets to move one of the opponents pieces.
Finally, not only a new Universe/Plane added, but new magic, races and so much stuff and so promising. I'm sure Matt and Wizards will live up to expectations; Matt delivered a lot with the Tal'Dorei book from Green Ronin, and I'm sure here we will see some of the finest work on DnD. The contents of the book I'm sure are gonna be great, so I just hope the book is well organized and the art is beautiful.
Matt helped work on NPCs for W:DH and they are pretty good and well realized.
@@BenStrandberg Yes, that's why I have so high hopes on this. He even appears in the Yawning Portal drawing

God I love listening to Matt talk about this stuff. His passion shines through so much and it's honestly inspiring af
What I think is great is to see the passion from Matt and others in the "Entertainment Industry" for our nerdy love of our RPG Hobby.
I want that black hole spell so bad lol. I wanna see his entire list of spells because they sound so fun and cool.
I’ve always wanted to harness the power “hot tub time machine”
I've always just enjoyed hearing Todd and Matt talking to each other about their shared passion. it's so wholesome! and it happens to be my passion as well!
"Time goes quicker these days..." Yep, that's Dunamancy for ya.
Love that they had him behind a dm screen!
I could just listen to Matt explain stuff all day
I imagine these spells are also inspired by the Time, Thought, & Numbers Sphere spells in the O.G. Tome of Magic, alongside the Dimensionalist Wizard subclass from back in the day. Having these highly thematic spells ties to a settings lore makes a lot of sense.
This new magic reminds me of the Scarlet Witch’s mutant ability. Probability manipulation
wasn't that DC's Jinx?
It’s both. However, Jinx really doesn’t get any screen time compared to Wanda so it’s more closely associated with Scarlet Witch.
i thought domino in deadpool 2 had probabilty powers that favor her
@@jeremykozlowski2861 yeah, but luck simply favouring you is different from actual willful probability manipulation
Parallel invention seems a bit...weird when centered around a form of probability magic. I just discovered Critical Role and I've been hooked.
I used to play other RPGs, GM'd some campaigns or wrote the central stories for others to use, even created a simple one with one of my brothers--partly because my oldest brother never really let us play D&D with him and his friends. Still, I recall reading all manuals as a kid--I loved the Deities and Demigods one most, I think. Now, thanks to quarantine, I will finally get a chance to try it.
Having discovered Critical Role and Matt Mercer, I find that he's created an entire system of magic that is very similar to the 'magic' I dreamed up for a series of short stories I worked on ages ago. Being able to manipulate probability, backward and forward in time, so that this sort of Heisenbergian chess of cause-and-effect could be played out between rival adepts.
And here I find him describing a magical system that includes that (and much more, of course.) Marvelous.
And this is just one of many synchronicities pulling me toward this game. Weird but compelling little coincidences and events keep making me want to learn the game, and relearn GMing, more and more.
And so why not, right?
Im so happy to get my hands on this for my first ever campaign i created spells all about gravity and time and this just sounds like he took that to another level.
It’s like Dwemer Tonal Architecture from Elder Scrolls. Got it. 👍
Thank you, RUclips, for finally recommending something amazing! Given that my campaign is run through D&D Beyond and is set in the Tal'dorei world, this is just about perfect! I was hesitant to allow my players to travel outside the continent, but now this opens a whole new area to play in. We don't have any wizards in the group, but we do have a bard and a sorcerer, so I'm hoping they'll be interested in taking some dunamancy spells once this is released and we add it to our game.
I'm absolutely thrilled to check out some new spells!
It's really cool hearing Matt explain all this and conmecting the dots with Caleb throughout the campaign.
Matt the Eloquent! Such a beautiful description of Dunamancy!

Matt is so smart. I'm so happy he's using his intelligence to create and entertain.
Yessssss, I am ready for these spells!!
Can't wait for Caleb to delve more into this magic as we get closer and closer to the end of the campaign.
I haven't been keeping up with C2 because up until recently I hadn't had the time to dedicate to watching the vods. Are they close to the ending? Last I heard they were only around level 8 or 9?
I love how excited and happy Matt is about the games still.
As someone who loved playing a Force Mage in Dragon Age 2, I think I'm going to like Dunamancy :)
agree
Matt Mercer really took quantum mechanics and made it a school of magic in D&D. That's some real creativity
I haven't seen the spell list yet, but I love the idea of magical probability alteration. Removing cause from effect, for example, or action from reaction, etc. Law of attraction based spells could be cool too, where you make it more likely that something you want will happen to or around you, for better or worse.
I'm so excited to get my hands on the list of Dunamancy spells. I've been dying to learn more about that type of magic since it started becoming relevant in Campaign 2. I'm going to have so much fun with this.
6:35 *PLANETARY DEVASTATION*
I cannot wait to seen what other kinds of spells Dunamancy has!
I started a homebrew Chronomancer but it's not as intense as i'd hoped, so I'm really pumped to incorporate more Dunemancy into her repertoire as someone from a legacy of people with ancient time/reality magics.

Finally, we can be Time Lord wizards in D&D!
It's about Time! Been homebrewing this type too long.
So keen!!!
God, Matt is an absolute treasure
Ok, so... this alone just sold me on this book. I'm adapting things for a custom setting (for my players only), and this is the kind of thing I've been looking to be inspired by for some time now.
I would like to see the return of some of the old 2e spells that sound like Dunamancy (but were previously called "Wild Magic") spells like Alternate Reality, Nahal's Reckless Dweomer, There/Not There (aka "Schrödinger's Spell"), Waveform, Wildstrike, Hornung's Random Dispatcher, etc.
I can't remember if there has been air craft in Matt's world yet, but dunamancy could be the basis for flying craft or even better space craft. And yes I know about Eberron and Spelljammer, but I like the idea of maybe fleshing dunamancy out more into a full on school, and re-categorizing some spells like haste and others that Matt mentioned into dunamancy. Like in the world I've been slowing building, dunamancy could be a new field of magic/science that has made a big surge forward in the last decade or so and become an officially recognized school of magic and its rapid development has lead to space travel into the solar system and construct probes that have been sent outside of the solar system that can teleport vast distance once a day moving towards other stars to relay back anything they find.
I wonder how Dunamantic spells will behave. I'm fully expecting a version of either the Luck feat (but cast in spell slot 3-4, and perhaps using a reaction or requiring concentration to hold), or the Divination wizard's Portent (but cast in spell slot 5-6, and also using a reaction or requiring concentration to hold). Probably both are worth considering as they're reasonably priced mechanically and, while not particularly powerful (pre-luck versus post-luck pick 1 of 2d20, really. Both average slightly less than +5 or -5 to a roll, depending on what you're trying to do), can contribute to interesting play.
I came here for 'shifting topography' and got 'fragment of possibility'. Not disappointed! The inclusion of Dunamancy is incredibly exciting for the future of the game. I wonder what direction that D&D 6e will take ...
I read that book too! Best character was huge the hand! Ref death gate cycle. The race from the labrynth could control magic through their tattoos, while the race that trapped them there could control the endless possibilities of reality.
Imagine the energy given off from Scanlan’s counterspell against Vecna? If that counterspell wasn’t done then the future would be much darker. The energy you would get from that in Dunamancy would be HUGE. 😗
I’m so excited for this
I'm so excited!!!
so essentially chaos magic! i love it 🥺
