Ben Van Oosten is not only one of the greatest ever organists of our age.. I have met a good number of his students and they only have the highest praise for him as a mentor and teacher. He is not only a musical force but pays it forwards with sensitivity, enthusiasm, generosity, humility, and gusto. All from real people with real experiences and gratitude. Thank you Ben.

The best performer we have in the Netherlands for the French-Romantic organ repertoire!

André Welten You mean one of the best performer for the French-Romantic organ repertoire in the world !
I am French, and I am astonished by his perfect comprehension of this repertoire, scores respect, and perfect tempi !
The Final of tne 6th Widor Symphonie is marvellous by him, as Daniel Roth, but the recording from the DVD's Roth is no more in RUclips.

This is lovely, Ben van Oosten has such a wonderful touch the organ simply sings. The soft parts warm and gentle loaded with expressing and feeling, always perfect. Shame it was cut off.

Ben Van Oosten is one of my favourites organists for Widor, Vierne, Dupré, with Daniel Roth of course.

Apart from this wonderful video here I know his marvellous recording of the Widor Symphony No. 5. As far as I know it is the only recording where the famous Toccata sounds like music not like a mere virtuoso piece. He is a true musician making the music come alive in all its aspects. Thank you (and thank you for sharing this video).

Only discovered recently van Oosten's recordings of the Widor symphonies (among others ...) Totally blew me away. Great renderings of majestic music.

Ben van Oosten, een geweldige organist die erg geïnspireerd is door de Cavaillé-Coll-orgels : St Sulpice in Paris, St Ouen in Rouen... heel erg bedankt

+Jono6671 I assume you place Ben over Danial Roth or Mme. Alain. There is no question of his performances. They are technically and musically amazing. But best in the world is quite a title. Can we say - One of the best and have him a member of a very exclusive club.

Mr Shaw, I for one certainly place Ben van Oosten above Daniel Roth and M-CA, both of whom can/could be very patchy and inconsistent - but I've never heard anything that was less than stupendous or sublime from Ben van Oosten.

Ben van Oosten always baffles me. How did a Dutchman 'fall in love' with the French symphonic school, considering that his home patch is dominated by the Dutch / German school, being brought up on Bach, Buxtehude, Sweelinck etc? Having said that, he is, of course a truly magnificent interpreter of the French school.

Well, the Dutch have never really had much of a Romantic organ tradition of their own, and have tended thus to look around them - to Germany, Reubke and Reger, Walcker, Sauer and Steinmeyer; to Belgium, with such wonderful French-style organ-builders as Schyven and van Bever, and thereby to France. But, there are some late Dutch Romantic organs which are very much in the Franco-Belgian tradition. The fabulous 1920s Adema organ in the Roman Catholic basilica of St Bavo, Haarlem (not to be confused with the older Protestant church of the same name with its famous Müller organ, rebuilt out of all recognition by Marcussen in 1959) is a tremendous example of that - and, of course, in more recent decades, Jan and Peter van den Heuvel have been building marvellous French-style organs.
