My coach’s says if I’m not fast but really heavy I can play in front of the net with a screen or a deflection but you helped me a lot! scored a pair of goals from a rebound and a tap-in.

That's awesome, keep working on that but also working on getting faster and improving your weaknesses. That should be a huge focus for you each week.

@@undertheinfluence0056 that just means your stronger than an ox carrying around all that weight. Mix in a salad or two during the day and throw out the cheetos. You'll be surprised what will happen young man. Sky is the limit

Great video, especially the part about when the puck is in the corner don't just stand in front expecting a pass make some cuts!

I think you should break this down in 2 areas (at least), pucks down low vs. Pucks high.
When pucks are down low and you have 1 or 2 of your teammates in the corner trying to get possession, you should NOT be standing in front of the net and being covered by their D. You are essentially do his job for him. Find open ice (dead ice, soft ice) and be ready to shoot on reception of a pass.
When pucks are high, you did a good job of explaining it. You should layer for tips/rebounds. You have 1 or 2 players for low tips/rebounds and 1 player for high tip/high rebound. Those players are also “responsible” for puck retrieval. So guy on low tip LS is “responsible” for rebounds low on left side, right low guy, right low rebounds & high rebounds for high guy.
Some coaches may also want the release valve (you explained that well).
Overall great job, just remember strategy should be different for low pucks vs high pucks.

Is it the strong side winger and the center that are the high and low screens?

It really varies. In higher levels you are constantly rotating in the offensive zone so your actual position doesn't matter, it's more about your position on the ice at that time and reading the play.

By putting my body between the goalie and the puck instead of off to the side, do I need to worry about being in the way of a shot from my team?
Also, which way should my body be facing? Face the puck? Face perpendicular to puck and goal?

    • @CoachZac

Face the puck. No need to worry about stopping the puck because you are standing in front of the goalie! If it hits you it would have hit them. A good shooter needs to hit the corners anyway and if you are screening the goalie doesn’t have much chance at stopping a quality shot. Not to mention you have options for tips, deflections and rebounds. If the puck is coming right at you, reflexes need to kick in, rotate your body quick to the side and get ready for a rebound! Good questions.

1:12 Coach really hates players who stand in front of the goal with their stick to the side.
