Nanis story gets even sadder when you realize she was on track to be a professional surfer, as demonstrated by all the medals in her room and her skill on the beach.

Disney did such a great job with this movie. This has the most realistic depiction of familial interaction in such a strained situation. Nani sacrificed so much to protect Lilo and make thing as normal as possible. Nani never blamed Lilo for what happened in her job interviews because she knew that Lilo would then blame herself for everything that went wrong since the accident. Lilo is heavily depicted as being on the spectrum which means that Nani was absolutely right in the fact that Lilo would not stand a chance in foster care. Hawaiians are displaced in their own nation's island, often pushed to the side for white colonial focus. The executive director understood this and demanded that the Hawaiian dances and culture was to be drawn in exact terms. And the fake luau shown in the real exploitative terms. Cobra Bubbles was not technically wrong about taking Lilo away, he saw red flags everywhere and it is the responsibility of CPS to make sure that children are safe even from their own family. In early incarnations of the movie the CPS worker was less intimidating, but they director realized that Lilo would be way too much for anyone other than the brick wall that was Cobra Bubbles. Top tier movie right here, an instant classic especially in the time when Disney was aimless as a movie business.

Lilo says she likes Stitch AFTER finding out Stitch survived getting hit by a truck. She thinks he won't leave like their parents did.

the town in the movie is based on the real-life town of Hanapepe on the island of Kauai in Hawaii. I grew up in a town nearby called Koloa. The whole island is very laid-back. For many years, you could count the number of stoplights on two hands and many businesses close by sundown... love your reaction, btw.

What's sad about Nanis luau job is that this is actually what Hawaiians had to do when the western culture took over.
A luau was a sacred practice until the westerners took the concept and had the audacity to change it into a time to stuff your face with food and put on grass skirts and coconut bras and dance the hula.
And when they had these events, they didn't even let actual Hawaiian people in, so to make money to take care of themselves, the Hawaiians were hired to work in these disgraceful events to clean up after the tourists like slaves only to make less than a buck.

The scene with the spaceship chase through the city was actually redone after the movie was already made.
Originally they hijack a plane and chase down Gantu though the city.
They changed it because it involved the plane crashing into a building.
Right before it was set to be released in theaters, 9/11 happened, and they made the executive decision to delay the release in theaters to reanimate it so now its just a spaceship that LOOKS like a plane.

It gets a little confusing after this one so here's a rundown of the rest of the franchise in chronological order: Stitch: The Movie, Lilo & Stitch The Series, Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has A Glitch, then Leroy & Stitch serves as the big epic finale to the whole thing.

One of my favourite Disney films. The watercolour backgrounds are gorgeous and Lilo was definitely a comfort character. Lilo is EXTREMELY autistic coded and thats why she's bullied by the other students. She has special interests (photography, elvis etc.) and has meltdowns when being overstimulated (the scene where she screams and lays face down on the floor). She doesnt fully understand that lying to Cobra would get her taken away. The reason Lilo is worried about her offerings to Pudge is because she believes the fish is a deity that controls the weather and that offerings will stop Nani from being taken away like her parents. This is honestly one of my favourite Disney films, but I wish they had kept in the original scene that showed how tourism effects Hawaii

This movie gets some Problem Flags with me because all the bad playing at Nani's job/s and got her in trouble... That's flapjacking Trouble on top of Nani already being pushed to the breaking point trying to provide for Lilo so she can fill the roll of legal guardian. WHY is Lilo making things so much harder for her? How does she not know how much is at stake for her... Just playing around at Nani's job, she ruins so much for her...
Why would they do that in a movie like this? It's way too much. It's pitting one sister against another. Why are they not supporting each other in such a vulnerable, difficult time?

Uhhhhh, Lilo is 6, lol. This sibling relationship is probably the most relatable in any Disney movie. Also it is talked about how Lilo could most likely be on "The Spectrum".

    • @entertainmenthell2396
      @entertainmenthell2396 Год назад +1

@@bastioncory6740 That's Disney's decision, kay? If they want a Real Life story, play it like REAL life. That means changing several other decisions they made with editing, music, etc. They have to DUMP the Drama Manipulation movie tactics. You can't mix the two together without rifts. And this is a major series of CONVENIENCE-oriented, majorly avoidable conflict tricks. Tricks don't feel real or relatable. Sorry. We're talking about filmmaking here. A confluence of elements.
This film has issues. It's a Middle Tier Disney film for these reasons.

All your takes suck. For no reason you brought up Princess and the Frog and accused it of making voodoo out to be evil, when Mama Odie is also a voodoo artist and she is a hero character. You have so much criticism over every single thing that has ever been considered typical to an ethnicity, painting actual circumstances people of colour find themsleves in as stereotypes. You don't even offer any alternatives so I'm pretty convinced that despite your claims to expertise on screenwriting you don't even have a morsel of creativity. I bet you're not even of colour and you have the nerve to attack these movies for your presumption that their treatment of poc is seen as bad by poc without consulting a single person of the ethnicity in question. Indigenous Hawaiians adore Lilo and Stitch, especially the scenario of CPS being borderline stalker-ish on Nani who is a perfectly acceptable guardian, Lilo's photography of fat American tourists on her native territory like she is on safari looking at hippos, and Nani being forced to work at a tourist trap luau as a prop because there are few things available to her in her colonized home territory. You even completely missed the fact that Lilo is autistic and that a lot of her bevaioural issues including the fighting, being unaware of the extended consequences of her actions, and her obsessive interest in voodoo/macabre and Elvis, are typical to autism, and she's also clearly made out to be sympathetic even though she has some violence issues. Save your buzzwords and your loose understanding of storytelling, racial sensitivity and cultursl appropriation for whatever Reddit post by a student of Introduction to Anthropology you skimmed through to get this Dunning-Krugered.
