I love how I began to listen to city pop to feel nostalgic for times I never had, but now that’s it been so long since I’ve discovered it, I legitimately just feel normal nostalgia now. This doesn’t remind me of times I never had anymore, it reminds me of my younger self now.

I had to watch a video in engineering class explaining "why the World Trade Center went down" and the mechanics behind it. Breaks my heart. It's an engineering marvel that one civil engineer in a million gets a chance to create. Shame a beautiful masterpiece went down like that. This song and album picture makes me feel like I'm in the 80s, when the World Trade Center stood tall in the New York skyline.
this one is definitely Junko's magnum opus, literally never get tired of listening to it, especially 2:14 onwards, used to go to school "trying" to sing that part lol
I remember listening to this at a smokey jazz bar in Tokoyo during the summer of 85. I met a girl named Kiki, she was the cutest Japanese girl I've ever met in my life. We hit the town, went to an arcade, ate amazing ramen, and enjoyed the amazing Japanese scenery. She then asked if I wanted to go to her apartment and before I could answer, I woke up.
I swear japan was just cranking out a crazy amount of funky hits for a whole decade. Very high production value and they understand the art they're performing... so genius shout out to the performers!
Rest in peace queen 😢 you will never see this, but I still want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the countless moments of happiness that your music gave me and will continue to give me through the years

I swear the basslines from Japanese artists in the 80's completely nailed the simplicity is key aspect of Bass. Such unbelievably clean, easy to follow basslines. So good.

Can confirm it, i found out about City Pop back in July and since then RUclips has been recommending me more and more of it. Not that i'm complaining 😎😏🤗
"This song is simply amazing! I can't help but feel so happy and upbeat whenever I listen to Junko Ohashi's "I Love You So". The catchy tune, combined with her sweet and infectious vocals, just gets me moving and singing along every time. The lyrics are so simple and sincere, and they really hit home for me, reminding me of the beauty of true love. Overall, this song is definitely one of my all-time favorites, and I can't get enough of it. Thank you, Junko Ohashi, for sharing your talent and creating such a timeless classic!"
It was inspired by chaka khan 100%. actually the entire city pop genre is inspired from RnB, soul, funk, jazz fusion and disco as well as some other genres. Its really cool to me how even when im not listening to music from black people, Im listening to music inspired by black people. Its funny how black people had a inspiration for Japanese people and later on the reverse happened.
@@guywithglasses3114 "What you gonna do for me", covered by Chaka Khan/1981 was originally recorded by AWB/1980 - written by Hamish Stuart and Ned Doheny.
why do people find it so surprising that the album cover is the old world trade centre? i mean no wonder people would take pictures of it its new york and it was also quite the pretty place.
Azer Co. this specific album isn't available for download there. I've already checked and asked numerous places for a link to the full album. the closest I'd be able to get with listening to the full thing is if I were to buy the vinyl for 260 dollars on discogs :(
This album was only ever available on vinyl, and it is rare, $100 in Japan. 10/12 of the songs are on other albums, Tasogare and Tea for Tears, which are available on the website linked above.
Well, it's hard to find even on streaming apps like spotify. It kinda amazes me considering how good this sounds, it's a shame it's no easily available.
I was looking for this song I found it about 7 years ago I couldn’t remember the name. I typed in Japanese fusion, and followed the related videos until the algorithm synchronized with me. All before an add popped up, and I’m smoking meats on oxtail Wednesday. Miracles do happen. Stay hard.
Matsubara Miki's song Stay With Me went really tiktok famous and got #1 trending song on lots of music streaming services. Tons of people are listening to city pop now.
I got into it because of sampling music. I listen to the tracks normally before thinking abt samples, and Japanese city pop is a genre that stuck with me after this song specifically. This song is definitely one i think abt alot lmao
I used to listen straight right after I’d finished studying for my GCSEs in the stuffy library all day, good memories of letting the first breath of fresh air of the day hit lol

Looking between the clock and the entrance
Dareka o matte iru no ne
Waiting for somebody

Shisen wa anata o ou no
Gazing after you

Turning around I realize
Kii te yo, I need you so
Listen, I need you so
Omokage ga ima mo tsukimatō
You're still on my mind
Kake daseba soto wa ame
If I run out into the rain
Kono mama ja kaerenai. Oh.
It won't be to go home
Kakeyotte dakishimete
I'll run to you and hug you tight

And even though I mustered my courage
There's only ashes left of my cigarette
My eyes still searching for you
Turning around
Noticing
Listen! I love you so
Now our faces meet
I chased you, outside was rain
But I can't go home like this
Running up to you
Holding you close

Man! What a cool album cover! I can't wait to go to New York and see it in person!

Good delivery 😅

RIP Junko Ohashi 💜
I love how I began to listen to city pop to feel nostalgic for times I never had, but now that’s it been so long since I’ve discovered it, I legitimately just feel normal nostalgia now. This doesn’t remind me of times I never had anymore, it reminds me of my younger self now.
the twin towers in the background add to the beauty.
it's WTC right? before the 9/11 tragedy
correct
17 years prior to the 9/11
and just over a year until it's been 17 years since
I like it because it adds nostalgia to the song.
Dude, I didn't know she died recently. I began listening to her music at the start of November 😭
Me too life is too damn short 😭
yung kage, yumi, and isaacwhy - I LOVE YOU SO. they killed this sample
This song itself sampled from an American called Chaka Khan. Chaka Khans "whatcha gonna do for me". A lot of citypop is just Amercican funk/soul.

i'm here from yung kage and i'm so happy. this is such a good song.

This cover is such a vibe... really blows me away
Had me in the first half not gonna lie
brother cmon why u gotta get me exited for u like that
Ya didn't put an apostrophe at the beginning of '85, thats what got me being suspicious
It's a true story, I was the bar

I swear japan was just cranking out a crazy amount of funky hits for a whole decade. Very high production value and they understand the art they're performing... so genius shout out to the performers!
I cant believe... she died one week ago. This song is even more bittersweet than it already have been.
I’ve begun to listen this type of music because of Plastic Love. I didn’t notice I liked the japanese music. Just love it. Thanks, RUclips.

日本の経済がイケイケな時代。
人、物、金が潤沢にあり、心にも余裕があった。
そして、このような素晴らしい音楽が生まれた。
この時代は、音楽に限らず服、クルマの品質が高いものが多い。
Ya Bro Japan was way before developed than the whole world. Not even America is close to you guys. How many things Japanese people give to this world.
The original had over 200,000 views, shame they took it down.
Always happens with japanese music
doesnt really matter. It got claimed by the owners of the music. Im 100% ok with that just as long as it can stay up
Because the Japanese studios are fucking ASSHOLES when it comes to old school music and take down EVERYTHING.
what are you 100% okay with at that point?...
Geoff Smith Really. Your okay with it as long as it stays up? Then you shouldn't be okay with them taking it down......this is contradictive logic of the next level.
No clue why this was recommended to me but imma ride with it

"This song is simply amazing! I can't help but feel so happy and upbeat whenever I listen to Junko Ohashi's "I Love You So". The catchy tune, combined with her sweet and infectious vocals, just gets me moving and singing along every time. The lyrics are so simple and sincere, and they really hit home for me, reminding me of the beauty of true love. Overall, this song is definitely one of my all-time favorites, and I can't get enough of it. Thank you, Junko Ohashi, for sharing your talent and creating such a timeless classic!"

I need to remind everyone that Junko Ohashi sang probably the best electro funk song from the 80s: "Dancin"....give it a go and you will adore it.

@@wormykarma02 same here. she was one of my first introductions to city pop and older japanese music several years ago :(
I love Ohashi Junko's soulful vocal so much! And this tune is just sublime.
I think this song was inspired by Chaka Khan’s “What You Gonna Do For Me”. They sound very similar. Both bops nonetheless
It was inspired by chaka khan 100%. actually the entire city pop genre is inspired from RnB, soul, funk, jazz fusion and disco as well as some other genres. Its really cool to me how even when im not listening to music from black people, Im listening to music inspired by black people. Its funny how black people had a inspiration for Japanese people and later on the reverse happened.
not even inspired, it’s almost a carbon copy😭

I beg your pardon
I tried searching the album online and couldn't find it anywhere, seems rare as fuck lol.
Azer Co. this specific album isn't available for download there.
You can also find a ton of her stuff on Apple Music Japan, you can get a subscription even without being in Japan.
some way to find this song or telephone number in another album?
Well, it's hard to find even on streaming apps like spotify. It kinda amazes me considering how good this sounds, it's a shame it's no easily available.
I was looking for this song I found it about 7 years ago I couldn’t remember the name. I typed in Japanese fusion, and followed the related videos until the algorithm synchronized with me. All before an add popped up, and I’m smoking meats on oxtail Wednesday. Miracles do happen. Stay hard.
The Japanese funk songs are really underrated, I wish more people listen this type of music :(
Matsubara Miki's song Stay With Me went really tiktok famous and got #1 trending song on lots of music streaming services. Tons of people are listening to city pop now.
I got into it because of sampling music. I listen to the tracks normally before thinking abt samples, and Japanese city pop is a genre that stuck with me after this song specifically. This song is definitely one i think abt alot lmao
Funk as a whole is underrated
It’s really popular rn in internet circles
I used to listen straight right after I’d finished studying for my GCSEs in the stuffy library all day, good memories of letting the first breath of fresh air of the day hit lol
