The Martinez Ugarte Dalot section you showed is Amorim coaching, you'll see a lot of this in the future. It's why he insists on dalot staying up and not dropping back which he would have done under ETH.

Can I make a recommendation - the analysis, overall is completely on point, but I'd use the term "fundamentals" instead of "basic stuff". I watch a lot of boxing, and things like the jab, right hand, keeping your feet under you at all times, your guard up and ring generalahip are referred to as the fundamentals. The first things you learn as you come through the door of the gym. Urgate's performance was an expression of mastery of the fundamentals of football. Scanning, finding space, receiving the ball while shielding it and moving it to the open player are all the fundamentals of football. In boxing, a fighter with elite fundamentals that is slower and less powerful than the elite can become a world champion - a perfect example is the career of Hopkins - or naz against Barrera. Likewise in football, a midfielder who puts on a clinic in fundamentals will rarely find himself on the losing side. The reason I suggest using the term "fundamentals" over "basics", is that you master the basics quickly, but you can spend a lifetime honing the fundamentals.
The last time we signed a DM who was not past his prime was Morgan Schneiderlin back in 2015/2016 season. Goes to show how overlooked the position is by Man Utd management. Look how City is struggling because they are missing their main DM.

That would make the two of us. He is the best lb in the EPL both offensively and defensively at the moment. I don't understand how is he able to play with intensity for an entire 90 minutes. He is my top pick for RWB.
I was sceptical about playing 3 at the back, but Amorim's system really gives key players the cover from an extra man to be aggressive in the tackle and win the ball back asap... they're still finding their attacking combinations, but we can see the team is clearly instructed to keep the ball and not constantly looking to play on the break and then losing it... no more basketball matches
Three at the back is a basic transition to counter the meta of using three forwards and also for countering No. 10/AM reliance. It’s surprising that more clubs have been stubborn in not utilising the set up or by playing a four at the back that switches to a three. The problem is a lot of clubs won’t see these styles of play as attractive so it’s easier to implement them in a league like the one Amorim came from and now he’s hired at a bigger club he has a mandate to continue in his style. Ole used 3 at the back pretty well to counter certain teams when he was struggling with squad availability but people criticised it despite his effectiveness
Glad you got it. Said it to my son during the game on how well he broke things up, laid off simple balls, worked incredibly hard and looked vocal. Keanoesq performance
Great analysis. But got a bit repetitive towards the end, when probably you should've shown his critical role in the beautiful control of the high ball (our players keep playing aimless, suicidal head tennis or just give the ball away), followed by the genius backheel which sent us on the move which led to Amad winner. That control and the "lateral" but critical backheel released the dangerous pressure and got us the winner instead. Massively underrated move imo. Cheers.

AJ I would love a video on Man U players with growing chemistry. In all of this teamwork it seems to me that two players finding a certain chemistry might be a worthwhile video. For instance, Martinez and Ugarte...maybe. I also think that Amad and Antony might become an amazing pairing. They seem to have a lot of creativity together and they could trade off on running back as wingbacks.
Ugarte is a younger Casemiro, and while prime Casemiro always had a streak of attacking brilliance in him as a goal threat(late runs into the box, insane long shots and good in dead-ball situations) Ugarte seems to have a sense of a good key pass/chance creating pass in him in place of being a direct goal threat. He's mobile, no-nonsense, very good and more importantly not afraid of getting a tackle in and has the sense to cover for the more attack oriented players. EtH (and Luis Enrique at PSG) has a very VERY specific profile of midfielder in mind and was running the risk of not even playing Ugarte because he didn't fit that mold perfectly but so glad we now have Amorim instead who's letting Ugarte just do his thing in the middle.
Ugarte head on a swivel the entire game. I've rewatched the second half and his head is moving left to right the entire game. Something Mainoo needs to pick up.
Don't need a Hollywood passer at that position, just a calm player who rotates position while on the ball & an aggressive ball winner off the ball, simple.. love Ugarte❤❤
Exactly, there are plenty of progressive outlets around him as long as he retains the ball. Even the CB’s are decent with long balls if a counter is on

For playing a top six team, City were very poor in the press on Sunday. It certainly helped Ugarte to have time to scan his options and pick out the best one. No taking away from him doing the basics very well, but had it been Liverpool he would have had a scouser in his face and up his arse every time the ball came near him. As a whole the team didn’t deserve to lose the derby because of performances like Ugarte’s. We deserved at least a point, and for once we got the good end of the fortune. City seem to be generating their own bad luck lately, but they are certainly not helping themselves by not continuing to press hard to win the ball back.
