2:21 Since the wires in this light fixture are not color coded, the hot wire should be the smooth one and the neutral wire should be the one that has raised ridges on it (you can feel these ridges with your fingers). If the fixture wires are incorrectly connected to the ceiling box wires (i.e. reversed), then the entire light bulb socket will be energized (potential shock hazard when installing or replacing light bulbs).
“Attached into the same holes used for the cover plate” All the people in the UK like me watching and crying at the prospect of drilling through old lath and plaster, finding a joist, nogging between them if one isn’t directly above, and fitting a bracket.
Only thing different in mine is I have the copper wire for grounding thats short only to connect to that horizontal bracket with two screwholes. In some cases I see a naked copper wire come up from the fixtures but mine had only 2 wires come out from the fixture. Should I just connect that to the copper wire from the bunch of wires for ground provided. Rest is just Black to black, white to white.
I hate the fixture that came with our house. Brought this up to my man and he said he doesn't know if there is a bracket in it so he doesn't want to mess with it. What is a bracket? Is it that gold bit in the ceiling you showed? I watched your video to try to learn or see this.
Save yourself a headache and make sure you adjust the hang nut first, so that when you put the ceiling cover in place, the threads are about half way through the ceiling cover. Eyeball this before you hang the strap. If you try to adjust the length afterwards, the wires will twist up inside the junction box or twist around the hang nut and possibly cause a short.
This is what I am afraid of. You have to twist the screw into the ceiling pretty tightly as that is what holds the top cover plate in place. I have put the chandelier together and my daughter is going to hold it while I connect the wires, but won’t they twist up while screwing it in to the ceiling?
any chandilier should work I mean have the necessary wiring for installation right? or I need to look at my ceiling wiring first before getting a chandilier?
I wanted you to tell me which wire from the new fixture goes to the hot wire. You didn't. There is no manual with my fixture for the install and the directions are from China; so they are worthless.
why cant the copper ground wire be inside of the electrical cord. the power wires inside the cord are already shielded and it would look better cosmetically
The wires in the actual chandelier light fixture were marked ALTHOUGH not colour coded . The wires coming out of the ceiling junction box are generally white for neutral , and black ( or red ) for the hot wire .
Michael, I purchased a second hand hanging light and, of course, want to hang it. But before I do, I want to test the light to make sure it really works. How do I hook it up to an electrical outlet to test it? Can I just splice an electrical extension cord onto the light wiring and plug it in? Thank you for your response. Bruce
So weird. I wanted to refresh my memory and figure out if the ground wire goes all the way up the chain, and to my surprise this video has the exact light fixture. I got it for $20 at the Restore store, but I had to buy a chain and wire. If these guys paid $46 for a new one, I didn't get such a good deal.
As an Electrical Contractor for the last 16 years, you should never hire a handy man to do electrical work. In most states you must be a licensed electrician to do electrical work for someone else. Many of the techniques shown in this video are wrong.
+bensonelectricinc I can't tell which is the hot wire because the fixture was given away by a friend. There is one wire coved in plastic (that can be split in two) and one uncovered. How do I find out which side of the plastic covered wire I connect to the hot wire? Please help. I would love to use the chandelier.
+malu brochado the wire you have is probably zip cord. One of the leads should have ridges on it. That wire goes to the white wire in the electrical box. The other insulated lead is the hot wire. That lead should go to the black wire. The bare copper wire should go to the green or bare copper wire.
I understand what you're saying. There are DIY'ers who are handymen and there are handymen with decades of experience. We handymen get a bad rap because of this. I would never attempt to do a job that I didn't understand completely.
@bensonelectricinc very well said. Electrical work handled improperly, can burn a house down, cause arc flash to your eyes,& even be fatal. Not once did this guy mention using an insulated ladder, safety glasses or gloves. You guys need to stop discrediting the electrical trade that takes 4800 hours of apprenticeship before you could even take & aquire a c10 license so Please mr handy man tell me how you turn watts in to amperes off the top of your head without googling it, or what phase 1,phase 2,phase 3, symbolize, or please what does bonding mean in the electrical trade.
This is a “Hey look who I know & what he can do” video. Not educational at all. Poor camera work & editing doesn’t show how to connect the wires very clearly. Guess it was meant to show the cool graphics & force viewers to constantly rematch with no pay off 👎👎👎👎

Plot twist, that’s why I’m here.

Lols my grandmother is a Londoner and this gave me a ptsd trigger from when I tried to help her install a new chandelier a million years ago. 😂
Your video helped alot i was messing around the chandelier and the cap got lose and fell lucky my mom was asleep and i fixed it thank god
Can the power switch be turned off and forget the breaker, then start working on the wire?
Thanks! I’m confident I can do this!
Thanks for sharing. How much weight can the bracket in the ceiling hold?
if i’m in an apartment building, how do i turn off my breaker?

its been a long time for me, Good Job
How much would you generally charge for this service?

How do you install a chandelier with a 3” downrod on a sloped ceiling? Please help me?
He’s gonna scream yahtzee! and bust that chandelier lol

UGH! THAT CAP! That's why I'm here. I can't figure out how to secure the cap with the nut with the wires in the way 😡😓

How about for heavy weight chandelier hanging? Same way or differently? Please let me know.
are ceilings usually strong enough to carry the wight of a person?
No. Max is 12lb/6kg
Excellent help, thanks!
any chandilier should work I mean have the necessary wiring for installation right? or I need to look at my ceiling wiring first before getting a chandilier?
All chandeliers (excepting antique ones) should have the same basic wires.
Thanks for sharing
Del Boy is pretty good at taking them down
Why doesn't the chandelier have a ground wire???
you didn't show how to adjust the canopy without getting your wires all twisty
What about the switch line
How do I fit a cable light ?
I wanted you to tell me which wire from the new fixture goes to the hot wire. You didn't. There is no manual with my fixture for the install and the directions are from China; so they are worthless.
Yaayyyy thank you so much for this.
Phone number for Effortinc lighting
Thanks was very helpful
What does it mean if the breaker keeps popping?
lyset villalba there is a short somewhere.
The adjustment on the crossbar mounting bracket would have been helpful...
why cant the copper ground wire be inside of the electrical cord. the power wires inside the cord are already shielded and it would look better cosmetically
The wires coming out of the light were the same color. How did you decide which to attach to neutral and which to the power?
The wires in the actual chandelier light fixture were marked ALTHOUGH not colour coded . The wires coming out of the ceiling junction box are generally white for neutral , and black ( or red ) for the hot wire .
Thank you!

I was feeling confident until the shut off breaker part- that’s when the thought of electrocution became real....I guess I’ll find an electrician 😅
You don’t know how to shut off the breaker??
💚💚💚💚 bookmark/notes : pigtail
U forgot to ask how long he wanted the chandelier, sometimes u have to remove with ur pliers to shorter it out
yes this was greatly oversimplified.... how about setting the depth of the threaded pipe and locking the nuts together? sheesh
I don’t have a ceiling plate though.

"This is a definite do it yourself..." my ass! I'm hiring an Electrician!

Mine is like 25 feet in the air. So sucks
If your house wiring is using yellow wires for hot- someone made a mistake.
Thumbs up from me.?
