Ancylecha fenestrata is commonly known as the Malaysian katydids. However, the species is much better known among keepers by its scientific name. It is advertised with a wow effect because it really looks very exciting and beautiful. But the biology of the animals is also interesting.
What is particularly striking about them is of course that they stridulate. By rubbing two body parts that move against each other, sounds are produced that are reminiscent of creaking. This is not unusual for insects and is used for intra-species communication. For demonstration purposes, the animals can be encouraged to stridulate by touching them.
