The editing on this one was just *chef's kiss* lol, looks like you had tons of fun. I'm excited about the subject matter too, I'll be rewatching later when I can properly sit and take some notes.
Like most everything, when you know how it's pretty easy. I'd never even considered making my own hooks and eyes and thanks to you I now know it's an option and I will be giving it a go.
the wubber double barrel bail-making pliers are great they have or 4 different sizes which is awesome for making jumbo hook and eyes. when I make jumbo hooks and eyes I like to use larger gauges 12 to 16 and then hammer the eye on my jeweler's anvil which hardens the metal and looks really cool. I love love love your channel! I reference your videos for so many projects
Thanks a lot for this tutorial. I've been using it I love hooks and eyes now. Tuto starts at 5:07 btw. Length needed is mentioned at 4:23 and the materials at 3:58
This is absolutely amazing. Thank you so much. Your videos have the most practical and most effective tutorials for historical cost she making I have ever seen. This is wonderful. Thank you so much again.
I’m curious, how do you harden the wire from dead soft so they don’t come undone? I need to make super MINI hooks & eyes for dressing 1/6 scale dolls, and while I have a tiny round plier, I can’t use 18 gauge at this scale. I’ll play around and find out tho! Thank you for this tutorial! I’m unable to find hooks & eyes in the exact small scale that I need. This just may solve my problems!!
I wondered that myself at first. But after making them, just the bending of the wire is enough to work harden them. The smallest gauge I've used was 20 and it works well as long as there isn't a ton of tension. Not sure it would be small enough for your purposes, though.
I haven't seen any evidence of silver hooks of this style, but that could be that they just didn't survive or were melted down later. I do know that there are some decorative tudor dress hooks made from silver.
@@ThimbleAndPlume we are more talkin about a german 1520s context here. that would be my guess too , small bits of silver? old clothes? out with the old clothes and reuse the silver,

Thank you! I really enjoy the editing process, well the creative part anyway. I just wish it didn't take me so long. Lol. ..

Thank you so much! I bought hooks and eyes, though they are way to small. Now I can make my own! Thanks!
Wonderful! You can make them any size you need!

Nice. I guess the same principle can be used to create a skirt hook to attach to a corset.
Sure can!
would silver hooks be a possibility?

The pliers scratch the surface so the hooks aren't smooth
