I really do love Don Barnes' voice, it's just so smooth. I never really appreciated the presence of Donnie Van Zant moving all over the stage and his endless (it seemed) energy. Until now without him being there, I still love to hear the voice of Don Barnes, and love the music, Donnie was a little guy, with some mighty big shoes to fill. .38 Special just isn't the same live, without his on stage antics. Happy retirement, Donnie. you are missed.
I agree with you. You know, I saw 38 special in concert back in May of 2010 and let me just say, it was one hell of a performance. Sucks though that Donnie had to quit because of health problems.
I NEVER get tired of this band or their songs that seem to pass time barriers, that were relevant when they were first released and still are relevant today.
I was in Sturgis but had to stay in (hole in the )Wall,S.D............wish I could have seen them..........saw them at a small bar in SC....these guys put on a great show with great music!! VanZant rocks!
They do rock live, still. I have seen them live 3 times, and really great show. Alot of non fans dont realize all the great songs they put out until they see them live. I wish they would come back to Baton Rouge.
There is just something about their sexy southern sound that has always endeared me to their music......saw them about the same time/ year in summer rocks in Blue Ash.....Cincinnati suburb.....it was great they had 2 drummers though.......hot sound and great concerts....lots of their fans there too....!!!!
Well, number one he is a great performer. He did great when he crossed over into country. Two, he sings some of their songs like Wild Eyed Southern Boys. I saw them in the eighties at the Cotton Bowl and Van Zant was awesome and it wouldn't have been the same without him. It was so hot, he pulled a huge ice chest out and started throwing beer into the crowd. Fun, fun, fun.
@rollinjukebox, Firstly, who are you to decide how many people are in the band. Iron Maiden has three guitarists as do the Outlaws, Molly Hatchet, Lynyrd Skynyrd and many more. Van Zant is the co-lead singer and has sung on almost half of all the songs they've done and is also one of the main song writers too.. Keyboards have been added to the mix since 1988 and enhance the overall sound.

This DVD is killer. Man Don Barnes can sing, not to mention the great song writing.
Great voice. You can also hear the Jim Peterik influence in his songwriting, and that's no slam, its a compliment!
I could listen to these guys all day long. Great music that brings back great memories.
38 is still one hell of a great southern band. Fantastic!!! Long live 38 Special and keep on rockin'.
One the best live bands I’ve ever seen!!

Such a great mix, but I miss the two drummers.
