how does this do with dirt the filter to me looks like it would just let dirt and dust back in the pool

Well as long as this moves the dirt or algae off the wall. My other vacuum is a zodiac g3 and that is connected to the pool and it sucks anything on the floor into the big filter which gets cleaned twice a year.

My walls curve on the bottom but it goes up to 90 degrees yes. It works alright. Doesn't get the yellow stuff once it sticks.

I had to call them to replace it once as it stopped working. They replaced it with a new one and it worked better. The suction is good and climbs walls. Currently I covered my pool with a tarp so I don't need to clean it during the winter.

Any comment on how the robot works with the algae?

it doesn't scrub it clean like you can with manual labor. It just helps brush it if it hasn't stuck onto the wall but if the algae has settled, only thing that can help is use TLC.
