The Fiido D2 and L2 come with a standard mechanical disc brakes that only have on piston. They work pe pressing one of the pads against the disc while the disk will slight bend and contact the fixed brake pad on the other side, thus constantly needing adjustment of the fixed pad that can either be to far or too close to the disk. The best and cheapest upgrade is to use a so called hybrid or semi-hydraulic brake system as it has working pistons on both sides of the disk that are hydraulic controlled. The difference from a completely hydraulic system is that you still use the original cables that will actually pull the integrated hydraulic pump built in the caliper itself. There are a lot of advantages such as: much more stopping power, no need to constant adjust, brake pads have retracting spring and will not touch the disk when not used, you don't need to install hoses, bleed the system and replace the brake handles which also need new brake sensor. The single disadvantage is that the brake levers will not work as easy as on a full hydraulic model, but still will work easier with the new calipers.

Ok just did this conversion, the brakes are different on the d2s as they have no separate pads, the pistons have the friction material glued to the top of them, very strange.
The rears required a washer between the bracket and the bike frame as the pads would rub,the rest is as per video.
The fronts went on without any washers and was pretty straightforward, just to note the cable adjuster is very close to one of the mounting bolts but is doable.
Hope that helps someone.
Also it seems that if you use the original brackets supplied with the new caliper you won't need to add any more washers.
Thanks for making this, i bought two pieces so i'll change in front too! Great tip, because my standard brakes are a bit uneven.
Surely you have tested these brakes for a few months now. How good is the braking power?
They are very good, they have a lot more power and they are also easy to modulate, they are also silent.
wow, super comprehensive review and setup guide. very cool to see that you involved your child as well in the replacement process... enjoyed the video and thanks again for sharing
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you liked the video.
Will this work same for the ADO bikes?
Yes, it is the same caliper mount & system and it will fit with no problem. I have the ADO A20 as well.
Thank you for making a review for this brakeset. I'm also planning to buy one for my mountain bike and I didn't even know that it has a dual pivot disc brake in a cheap price 👍💯
You have to pull the brakes much harder with these
as the return spring on the caliper is stiff , I have got rid of them and fitful hydraulic lol
Are you sure you installed them properly? They work easier than normal mechanical brakes and have more stopping power.
Same for me, you have the pull the brake lever much harder, but the brake power is better.
You can find the exact model of caliper here: bit.ly/31NPK3x
Brake is better than the original. Thankyou again. You saved a life.
I'm glad that you liked it.
Look how bad the one piston actuates. Look like pretty bad quality brakes and probably not as good as a decent pair of fully mechanical brakes but worth a try i guess
I have 4500km on this set, no issues so far, I will replace the pads soon.
Can we refill the oil? or is this only one time use once leaked? Or do I need to buy a new one once it leaked?
If you are skilled in mechanics, then yes you can open up, clean and refill it.
Will this fit my Fido L3
And is the washer included?
It fit's the L3, usually you get some screws + washers, depends on the seller.
what about the front disk , is the same procedure? thanks for the video
Yes, exactly the same
That little mechanic surely is handy
That's my minion helper, he sure likes to get things done :D Thanks for watching.
I got the L3 controller and also the L3 display. To install onto my L2 bike. But there is no cable wire to connect them together. ? Signed,,, Ebike illiterate.
Usually the display has a cable long enough to reach the controller. You also need to check if the throttle is the same type / compatible.
@@TechTronic9000 I sent you a message with display and controller photo via facebook messenger.
Awesome video. :-)
Do you know if and how the read shock absorber can be adjusted? I need it to be much softer.
Yes both rear springs have adjustments, but it's kind of hard. You might upgrade this with a longer shock making the rear arm at a 90° angle thus making the suspension even better, making the bike a bit higher and better to ride on uneven ground.
Thank you so much for this video, i have been considering upgrading my xc bike to hydraulic but kept wondering if there is something like this semi-hydraulic. How is the modulation on these xtech zoom breaks ? How would you compare the modulation to regular mechanical disc and hydraulic disc breaks ? And are they still holding up well, how's the pad-wear ? Thanks again, subscribed !
Hi! I run several bikes and they have mechanical, these semi hydraulic and full hydraulic brakes. The modulation is very good on the Xtech. The pulling power of the handle is similar with the cables ones but much more better brake feedback, also more stopping power. I have 3000km on these bike with Xtech, zero problems, zero adjustments and I still have the original brake pads.
@@TechTronic9000 Hi. If I buy a new pair do these come with brake pads or do I have to buy the pads separately? Thanks.
Brakes worked great for 2 weeks..
How do you adjust them?
They usually don't need any adjustment. Mine worked for 4500+km, only need pads change. You can slightly adjust the small lever arm and also the brake cable.
@@TechTronic9000 I must have no luck whatsoever then.
I've gone through 5 callipers and none have worked longer than 2 weeks..
where yiu get washer what size washer?
The washers came with the caliper set and some were re-used from the bike
Hi would this fit a Fido m1 pro
Yes
Any problems 2 years later?
And 4500km later, no issues. I just regularly clean them from dirt so it doesn't get in the pump piston area.
Nice video, I'm thinking to install them to my a20f, have you tried to install full hydraulics to a ado bike?
It's more complicated with full hydraulics as you need to find sensored brake levers, you need to route the brake lines, etc. It's too much work and more costly.
how to maintain the (hydraulic part) of the brakes then? chg/bleed the oil inside? how?
There is no need, just clean the exterior from dirt so it will not enter the pistons area.
Hi. Great video. Where can I buy those types of screw and nuts? I don't know the size of them.
You reuse the ones on your bike. Also the calipers come with some screws, washers and brackets included.
Idea is good, but quality is bed. I bought two and after 2 months I had fluid leak and naturally no break. I put the old caliper back on.
Maybe you had bad luck, I have 4500km on a set with zero issues and another ~2500km on another bike. I think the trick is to clean them from time to time so that dirt doesn't go into and break the seals.
Thankyou.. just in time.. do you have a link for this also on ebay ? Hopefully in the U.S. ?
I seldom use ebay these days, here is a link for them on Amazon: amzn.to/2WdkKeK
I want to add different handle bars to my Fiido L2. I need them to be higher. So I will need longer brakes and throttle. Maybe around 2-3 feet longer. What do I need? What do I search for ?
You will need longer brake cable and sleeve also you will have to extend the wires for throttle, brake cutoff, etc.
Good video 😎
I've just fit these to the L3
I'm not impressed at all
They don't pull from both sides untill one pad touching disk, still bends disk😱
Need to pull brakes far harder with these, compared to stock brakes, and gap between pads is too small
For my disks
I'm going to fit full hydraulic 😀
Yes they will fit perfectly, the L2 and L3 use the same brakes.
What model xtech zoom are these because I have contacted the company in china and they have said that these don’t fit the fiido d4s the model is HB-100 this is the only one I can find unfortunately
They are HB100 from a seller that provides also brackets and washers making it compatible with fiido / ado / engwe and other brands. You can check the out here bit.ly/31NPK3x
HI,For M1pro will be ok? front and rear? Thanks
Yes it works for the M1/pro also
Maybe I missed it in the video but are the front and back the same callipers?
Yes they are the same.
Nice mod. Any idea how to remove a speed limit on D2S?
As nice as it sounds this doesn't work for: Fiido D1, D2, L2, all of these bikes are using planetary geared motors which spin very fast and have a reduction gear inside thus providing very good torque. the downside of such kind of motor is that is very limited in providing speed, for instance the ratio is ~ 4.5 to 1 so the motor is spinning 4.5 times per each wheel revolution. So all thees bikes are physically limited by the top voltage of the battery and the designed motor speed (KV - turns per volt), thus ~ 25km/h is the speed that the motor will be able to run under load at full battery voltage. If you don't trust this then you can check my controller swap video in which i replace a stock Fiido "350W" limited speed controller with a 1200W one capable of unlimited speed (99km/h) and the result is exactly ~ 25km/h.
yes, buy the electronics for the Bike CMS F16 and install it .
hey could you please tell me what brake pads a fiido d1 has any help is appreciated thank u 😁
I have never changed stock pads on my ebikes as I always replace them with Xtech :D
Poti sa-mi spui de pe ce site ai comandat frana?
Am cautat pe banggood (de unde am luat si Fiido L2) dar nu am gasit. Poti sa ma ajuti cu un link?
Do calipers adjust brake pads automatically?
Yes, it's hydraulic so both pads are active, you just need to center it properly and adjust the pre tension.
How are these brakes holding up any leaking seen a couple of reviews with these leaking I would appreciate your feedback as I am about to order these or the zoom db680
My oldest set has gone over 4500km with no issues. I just clean them from time tot time so that dirt doesn't get in and damage the seals.
@@TechTronic9000 thanks
This kind of hydrou didn't leak after one year?
No problem until now and over 4000km done with it.
Hi, the link is not working for me.. can you please write the model of the new caliper? tnks
Ah sorry: I saw the exaxt model at the end of the video: the HB-100 Zoom Xtech correct?
How's the break holding on? Does it have a leak after your couple of rides with it?
All fine, no issues until now.
Thank you for the video! Keep us updated with your impressions. I’ll wait for a range test on the fiido L2 :)
I will also include a speed test after I complete the controller transplant.
@@TechTronic9000 whats in store for the controller transplant?
@@ajvirdi Possible 45+km/h speed for the L2 :) Almost finish my work for the transplant, i have used this controller: bit.ly/2NmgYIr
@@TechTronic9000 Sorry to bother you mate, do you happen to know which brake pads fit in the L2?
Is there any way to loosen the rear brake pad? Need help
Yes, there is a screw to loosen it up.
What size washers did you use as spacers so the disc is clear from the brakes. Would be interested to know please as I am new to all this.
I have just used some of the washers found on the original brake calipers.
Hello from Srbija
Hello from Romania ;)
On the end of the brake cable wire.. the cap you took off ? Is it the same one you put on ?
In this video yes. Usually that cap is single use, but with some attention you can actually take it off and reuse it.
@@TechTronic9000 do you know what the name of it is? Maybe I will need a new one when I replace the brakes.
Bro, I want to buy a road bike with this hybrid things
So after all this time u used it, is there any kind of disadvantage or something uncomfortable with this hybrid that u felt?
because some said that, it's dangerous when u go "downhill" and produce the heat that can make that brake didn't want to brake and I really don't want that happened to me. srysly
I'm nearing 4500km on a bike with this set installed and don't have any problems with it. I will have to replace the pads in ~ 1000km maybe. From time to time I try to clean them so dirt doesn't deposit in them and on the moving parts.
Whats best way to remove stock brake pad with new one?
Sorry I don't quite understand your question.
compare it with shimano non series how is it?
I don't have a shimano to test against, but at this price it's top choice.
Does it work with the d4s?
Yes, it's exactly the same.
Can i use for stunt porposes
Stunt? Maybe yes, you can lock the wheels at any time and will send you flying.
Has anyone got issues with their D2 brakes?
Just got mine and its mega squeaky even when pulling the brake slowly..
Yes, my original D2 brakes got very noisy after some usage, no more problems after replacing them, also the new ones from this video are much more better.
@@TechTronic9000 thanks for the reply!
Yes, mine too. I understand now, after this video, that the disk bending is bad and I think it makes the disk vibrate under heavy brakes. I just bought the hb-100, hope it helps
Thank you very much for this video ! I have a Fiido M1, do you think this system is adaptable? do you need an adapter?
Yes it works for the M1 also.
You can also join here for more info and user experience facebook.com/groups/FiidoElectricBike/
Is this also compatible with q1
Probably yes
Can you make a maintenance video for this? :)
Occasionally clean the dirt and replace pads when needed.
@@TechTronic9000 hi, do you have a link to buy the pads when they worn out? Thanks
Does it work for Fiido D4s? I just want to change the rear brake of my Fiido D4s. Waiting for your response. Thanks
It should, it's an upgrade i'm planing, if I get a D4s :)
@@TechTronic9000 thank you
Did you guys also have the problem that the backwheel gets closer to the gears of your peddles and that the chain gets loose?
No, but sounds as a loose wheel, tighten the nut harder, eventually use a washer.
@@TechTronic9000 I did and kinda fixed it. Now I have to get the wheel straight or the chain will get stuck every 2. minutes.
@@shagstars It would be better to 1) remove the tensioner, 2) adjust the wheel further from both screws making sure it's lined up, 3) reinstall the tensioner and adjust it to keep proper tension.
My D2 arrived with lot of nuts loosened. I had to check the entire bike
Hi. What is the model number of these zoom x tech brake calipers?
I've added a link for the exact model in the video description.
TechTronic9000 the link is broken 😅
hi, do you know if these are compatible with the default xiaomi himo c20 discs?
I don't know as I haven't seen a C20 yet, beside looking at pictures from the internet :)
@@TechTronic9000 ok, thanks
Does this work for the d2s
Yes, works also for the D2S, it's the same brake system / frame / wheel.
Why cant i bleed this brake compared to normal hydraulic brakes
@@TechTronic9000 my d2s brake looks diffrent to your brake, its labelled core ride. Would the semi hydraulic brake still fit.
@@azstar0008 I have "core ride" on my L2 and the new ones also fit perfectly.
@@TechTronic9000 i have a core ride on my d2s and it doesnt fit the brackets not the brakes dont match with my brackets and its not the same size
How about the new fiido m1 pro.what I have to check before purchase?
The M1 pro is too expensive for what it offers, for that money you can get a lankeleisi xt750 and get up to 1000w power, full hydraulic brakes, better assistance with no lag, etc.
@@TechTronic9000 I mean what to check about the calipers not the bike.
@@TechTronic9000 if I ask you to tell me the distance between the screws will you tell me please?i don’t want to order and then doesn’t fit.
Between the screws of the caliper?
@@TechTronic9000 yes. The distance between the bolts of the caliper.
Excellent video, Ill be changing mine soon too. A bit off topic but do any D2S users have an issue with the steering column/stem? I have to tighten the screw in the locking mechanism every time I ride, sometimes even twice. It seems to work itself loose very easily. Is there anything I can do to stop this or is it just a problem with foldable bikes?
Thanks for your appreciation about my brake upgrade video. You are right about the stem getting loose, there is a fix, I might make a video about it in the future.
TechTronic9000 Please do, all bolts get loose do we need to use grease or some fixing glue.
Depends on the part, usually just a screw will need a week locktite
Front brake??
The same, you can get them as a pair / set.
@@TechTronic9000 do they have the sam mount or different
Yes, same mount system, there is a adapter bracket also included.
Does it work for fiido d1
Yes.
Would this fit m1 pro
Yes it will work also with the m1 pro
I changed rear and front and worked but have no throttle response any idea
Are you using the the front or rear hb100
Also can you use the semi hydraulic brakes on front and rear.
Yes both front and rear work.
do the actual feeling of pulling the brake lever feels different?
The brake levers work a bit easier now, you also have better control modulation and they are nicely progressive.
@@TechTronic9000 I understand. Not sure if I should update to full hydraulic for 100$ or try these things for 30$. Installation is also more complicated for full.
As an ex-user of full hydraulics I prefer these cheap ones, no more bleeding and oil adding.
@@TechTronic9000 semi hidraulics don't require bleeding yearly?
No, just clean them externally so that dirt doesn't get in around the pump shaft and pistons and that is all.
I have a Fiido d2s and will do the upgrade.
Thanks for a great review👍I will order
please tell me are the original brake pads the same with the upgarde or do I need to order other brake pads for the new one
A link to buy the upgrades would be good so I wont make a mistake on order.
Thanks...Subscribed
Will this work on my Fido L3 ?
