The Tin Man reaching out to her in the darkness, omg how powerful. Stephanie's acting was top notch in this. She wielded the lyrics to really add magic to the scene.
A truly supernatural talent. I can’t believe we have such as this in our world let alone on the Internet. Thank you Stephanie. Thank you whoever captured her forever! And to believe she is still going strong. The spirits were with her all along.
Was blessed enough to see this 1984 revival when it toured to San Francisco at the Orpheum Theater. Stephanie Mills was a KNOCK OUT as well as the entire cast. My heart exploded at this finale! One of my favorite shows!
If I could make an observation: Stephanie Mills is (and I cannot tell if it's purposeful or not but I see meaning in it anyway) a little behind the music until she gets to a turning point, and sings "Let me start again" and the band does a drum roll and resyncs with her perfectly to transition into "Suddenly my world's gone and changed its face" almost as if representing how the world is continuing to turn and go on and Dorothy's not quite ready yet to turn with it. Until she is.
It sounds like the drums don’t really play an active part until that moment which probably helps her feel the tempo better. but I also agree, she’s busy in the first half saying goodbye and telling the story and I don’t fault her for that.
Words cannot express how very grateful to you for posting this playlist lol. I just watched all 25 videos, taking in the crystal clear singing and orchestrations while being amazed by choreography from the tornado sequence, to the "funky monkey" routine, to the Emerald City scene, all of which i would never have been able to witness with only the cast recording. i have previously watched the full version of the show that +Henry Wilkinson uploaded, but the dim lighting in his recording hindered me from truly seeing the full designs of each different set. His version also had some minor kinks in the audio, however it did give me a chance to hear the spoken parts of the play. The Wiz has always been one of my favorite musicals and the 1984 revival is my personal favorite, due to the accelerated, groovier pace and the unique vocal talents of its "Wizard." The true gem came with "I Wonder, Wonder Why," one of Stephanie mills most powerful on stage performances, being in my opinion equivalent to "Home" in power and passion. I thank you for allowing me to further enjoy one of my favorite musicals +The Wiz
No she's not, she's singing about going home to her Aunt and Uncle..... she's learned to appreciate the simplicity of life now she's a big girl and can face life's big chances.... now if that's how you apply the song to your personal sentiment then so be it, but dont push your personal ideology and take away from the writer of this stories beautiful vision. Please and Thank you
All I could say back when I saw this play back 1984 in Chicago I was breathless during most of the play but when she sang home? I could not breathe and/or how too! I was paralyzed! She had a hold on me like never before!
Great demonstration of acting the part of a little girl who can't bear to leave her new friends, but wants to be home with her family.

Yeh the first verse she is back phrasing and taking her time acting…it’s so good, that’s what it’s like when an artists becomes one with a song!
