Love the Apple keynote animations. I was wondering how these animations looked sleek and love how the answer is simple. Love the vid
Thanks! I hope it was helpful 😊
So simple yet so effective
The keynote thing is an amazing tip, thanks! Great video 🙏
Great for making tutorials, hope it was helpful!!
WOW, the mindmap tip is incredible! Congratulations, your work is great, and thanks for the effort on sharing it all with us with such high quality!
This is great to see. Many devs just assume we watch all there videos and know what is up. They don't go into detail about there workflow. Hopefully this influences more people to make videos like this.
that's great to hear! I thought mentioning the workflow would be better than skimming through the tools one by one in sequence, especially for people who want to start game dev. I'm hoping to make an updated version of this video once my project matures more. btw thanks for watching 😊
Yooo its dope, having everything organised is half the work
Great video especially the keynote tip was superb! Good to see you again tho🙌
Coming from an Agile-driven world, the mind-map tip is invaluable! Awesome video!
the animation part was so good, I didn't know you can do high quality animations like this! it looks so professional
Great insights on your game development workflow! Really appreciate the detailed explanation of how you use mind maps for task management and the efficiency it brings. Looking forward to more of your vlogs and learning from your experiences. Keep up the fantastic work, Jamie!
Wow, your animations are so smooth! And the game you're making looks cool! Just followed. I can't wait to see more of your devlogs :>
The Mindmap tip is awesome. Thank you!
My mind can go crazy with ideas sometimes, and usually im just walking around and typing notes on my phone which is a bit messy if you look at it a few days later... Im sure this will help me to keep my thoughts a bit more organised, without adding too much complexity on the writing them down aspect!
Such an intelligent use of mind maps.
This is a wonderful video - thank you for sharing your setup in such a clear and actionable way.
Thanks Doc Geraud for linking this vidéo. Very useful
The king is back
With Godot!!
The keynote tip is🤯
this is insane presentation animation for technical videos. I love the simple breakdown approach to project management too, definitely usable for any solo software projects. Godsend ❤
Pixel art is such a wonderful thing. It's incredibly approachable, and at the same time it has a very high skill ceiling. ❤
Hey Jamie, awesome Video! My biggest struggle in my journey so far ist to keep track of all my todo's. I tried several Tools and Lists. But it's never feels organic. Mindmaps I usually use for brainstorming, but I never got the thought to use it for task management, but this is a brilliant idea! You keep always the context and it's easy to extend! I think I will try this!
Really, really awesome!
I have been using miro for years and never even thought of using it that way, thank you!
Great sum up of your workflow. Glad I watched
I realized the core idea behind Mindmaps is the same with Outliner apps. The main difference being that Outliners (like Dynalist and Logseq) are primarily text based and Mindmaps are visual.
For people with ADHD, like me, I think outliners are better. I feel overwhelmed just looking at that Mindmap.
Great video!
thank you for sharing map approach!
Combine it with Obsidian Canvases and their ability to make single item in such mindmap a separate note and here you go - perfect project productivity system
Hello! I just started thinking of taking my art skills and turning it into game assets and this was so helpful for me. Making the mind map and applying it to workflow is so brilliant and sharing us your process with these tools was inspiring, thank you!
I *love* your pixel art style! So much cute for so few pixels :D
Though naked mole-beaver will haunt my dreams :O
thanks so much, I love all cute things 🥰
🤣🤣
Fantastic video - as a software developer who is trying to dabble in RUclips & side projects, this is so helpful. Thank you, Jamie!
Glad it was helpful!
Interesting use of a mind map. I like the approach!
Thanks for sharing this, I've just started my own GameDev journey
Didn't know powerpoint could actually do that @_@. Great video
wow, this is quality content! Thanks for that keynote tip!
i have never heard of mind maps before, this is very interesting!=)
I have never seen anyone giving the sauce so easily! Awesome content you got there!
Thanks! hope it was helpful!
I really enjoyed this video, thankyou
Excellent video! Congratulations! Gained another subscriber
Taking notes. Thanks for the good advice.
I never would have thought about using Keynote / PowerPoint as a way to do motion graphics. Way back in middle school, I thought about making a cartoon using PowerPoint slides and I guess that failed experiment pushed the thought of “animation with PowerPoint” clear out of my brain.
I am a indie dev And i really like the way you presented !
I may adapt to your style to blog my Journey.
Yay a brand new Jamie vdieo dropped. Welcome back gamedev queen. I'm also learning godot via a udemy course I found and loving every bit of the journey as well myself. I'm also learning the basics from using Kenneys free asset packs as my starting point before I venture out on creating my own in the near future which I'm sure I'll enjoy as well. glad to see your game is coming along smoothly. Great seeing a new upload from ya again. :)
Thanks! I love Godot so much, never regretted switching to it 😊
@@jamie_dev it is pretty nice, i took inspiration from it for my language. keep having fun!
nice bro! keep it up, hit me up with questions if you'd like. you can just reply here or i can give you my email if thats easier. im sure your doing great though!
Very helpful!
Graphs for managing tasks, just love it!
This was quite help as someone new to your channel. Personally, I don't think there is enough flowchart tools out there because I use them for planing quests and dialogue options for games I want to create.
I'm also in love with obsidian md for planning and research; and for planning D&D sessions.
Nice about the animations though, makes sense and I will be definitely using these once I start a RUclips game developer journey
Great video!
thanks mnd map is really helpful remind me good old days of flow charts some sorts thus making it more readable for me flow
This is great. Thanks. I didn't know you could do animations using keynote. I'll definitely try this out.
Hi Tom! how are you? glad you find it helpful, it's really good for making tutorials. Thanks for watching!
damnn loved the videoo jamie thanks a lot!!!
Thanks, this mindmapping technique was exactly what I was looking for and I love how you're a Godot dev.
I remember commenting one of your videos saying your maps looked crazy, but you have changed my mind about them, I'm starting today with them, and since I already use Miro I guess it might just work like have it all in one place, thanks for such amazing videos. Also your way to explain things is really nice and structured, you should consider creating tutorials and selling them.
Thanks! I used to make programming tutorials and hope to make game dev tutorials once I get more experience some day. I checked out your work on your channel and it looks sick! I want to make 3D games too
@@jamie_dev hello and thank you, my work in my channel is old when I used Unity, I've been using Godot for a while but I'm shy about it video wise lol, honestly thank you for the mental map idea its really working for me.
@@hawkgamedev looking forward to your updates if you decide to post about your new godot game 😊
I love Miro, I use it for diagrams all the time, never thought of using it for task management, will try!
Oh wow, I didn't know you could just use presentation software for these animations. Always thought people self coded these or used more sophisticated software. That's honestly amazing
I never understood mindmaps. They are totally alien to my way of thinking.
But... they are ABSOLUTELY EYE OPENING for task management and oh my, what have I been doing with my life all this time -.-
(been making games and software professionally for decades)
For task managers I never get ones with paid versions, cuz they can always decide to charge later and I might end up losing a lot of crucial data.
I use free mind maps for any task/goals, basically. Your method is really interesting, I'm gonna start adopting it. Thanks for the video.
What you prefer a alternative for keynote? (Don't have apple product and don't wanna use Microsoft PowerPoint on browser...)
Helpful 😍 Thank you!
Love the mind map idea for tracking tasks! Totally agree with keeping stuff simple. As a fellow hobbiest, theres only so much time i have to work on my game, so its better to make that time count.. by actually working on the game lol
Hey, very helpful video, especially with Miro! How do you make those checkmarks in Miro (1:09)?
If you hover over the text, you can fold the subtree
Great video. Definitely going to give miro a try. What desktop monitors are you using? Thanks.
Thanks! the main monitor is Dell U3818DW but they are now replaced with a new model. the second monitor is kind of a noname brand called Kogan which was the cheapest 4K I could find :)
thank you
Thank you I will try Miro or similar, as I was making notes in Workflowy but then when come back to look at it I just see a wall of text. On paper I do mindmaps and add little doodle here and there. When looking at this paper notes it is easier to find what I need and know. I just haven't tried that on computer, as paper notes just stuck up on desk and I have no way to connect them all and reorganize. Maybe map of maps but Miro seems like a good alternative to this problem. Thank you for sharing
Oh I love doodling too. It helps sooo much
Awesome
In the part where you organize tasks in miro in a mind map, all you do is basically create subtasks for tasks. That's why I don't understand why that's better than using Notion or Trello etc. where you can do exactly that.
Or if you want to do it really simply without anything distracting you, you can just write a Markdown document.
Like this:
- [ ] Task
- [ ] Subtask
Then you even have data protection because no company like Miro, Notion etc. can collect your data.
Can you give me one reason why the miro board is better than a simple Markdown document? Because Miro seems to have a lot more distracting features than a simple text editor.
Notion is good too I just like how mind maps can visualize my project and easy to move around the structure. Doesn't have to be miro
Interesting idea! Do you have any system for linking commits to tasks in the mind map?
Hello Gorom! I just copy and paste if I can. so no system haha 😊 Thanks for watching btw
awesome infos! well presented... but how the hack are you using miro in dark mode? looks nice. this bugs me for ages
I put a giant frame behind my board and changed it to a dark color 😊
Great video! Quick . What do your GDDs look like?
Hi Daniel! I have a video that shows you some screen recordings ruclips.net/video/DANlXBJvzAw/видео.htmlsi=x_BtcEqI6wEVPOzv&t=152
I never managed to get mind maps to work.
Looks cool and I see how this could work, but not for me unfortunately
your game is so beautiful and cute
Mind map is a powerful tool, I have used it for study when I was a student. They could definitely work for me in solo approach, but I'm not so sure about work in a team.
While mind maps are clear enough for people who have some experience with them, I found that majority of people find them convoluted and still tend to use hierarchy/list approaches when it comes to project management. Mind maps give too much freedom for expression, and working with others kinda demands more unified and strict approach to that. The same thing applies to the open canvases - they are good for brainstorming but not as good for actual task management.
I wish there will be some tool with a seamless non-destructible transition between a standard kanban and mind map view.
I wish there was something similar for morph transition on Linux solutions.
와. 한국계 미국인분이신가요? 멋있어요! 개발 애니메이션 정말 멋있게 짜시네요. Obsidian으로 비슷하게 하고 있는데 좀 더 영감을 받았어요. 정말 유용하게 봤답니다. 'a 'b
Wow. You're Korean-American? Your development animations are really cool. I'm doing something similar with Obsidian, but you've inspired me a little bit more. This is a really helpful video, I'm so glad to see it.
네~ 호주에 살고 있어요. 반갑습니다!
new dev here i always find it hard to find a good template or example for GDD could you point me in the right direction?
There's a r/gamedesign subreddit and people post some templates there 😊
super cool
Hi Jamie. Why did you delete the data structure series? Im not done watching them all 😢
me too
Hi! sorry about the confusion and I will make an announcement shortly. I moved them here: www.youtube.com/@JamieGo-id9xu

@@jamie_dev thank you! :)
@@jamie_dev that's great to know you created another channel for Go. Hope to see more Go videos from you in the future.
Excellent video, thanks for sharing it. Maybe you don't know but Miro and Godot are made by argentinians, of course that in the case of Godot being an open source software.
So simple and cool
There is Libresprite, if you don't feel like compiling aseprite yourself
Over for Notioncels
To me obsidian is sooooooo coooool ❤
Ah, you basically do what I do in Miro but I use markdown lists as infinitely nestable breakdowns.
Hi! I would love to try that out but not sure what it is. Is it like a template?
Love the mind mapping approach to task management - I have been struggling along using spreadsheet/more traditonal project tracking... I just wish all these companies would stop with the subscription based services and require internet connections. I would gladly pay more for the old fashioned software product that only ran locally and I had to pay again to upgrade if I wanted to. So tired of having to worry about unexpected TOS changes, privacy issues, price changes and now all the AI related concerns... Oh well....
I couldn't agree more. I'm planning to move away from subscription based products and more towards one time payments or open source
@@jamie_dev Be sure to put your recommendations in a quick vid/short. 🤪
What's this mindmap software? I don't think I've seen it before.
Hi! it's miro.com
yo this was helpfull
what code editor were you using at 1:44?
That's the built-in code editor in the game engine godot
YAAAAAY A NEW JAMIEE VIDEOO! 🎉🎉
Hello again!
Wawwwwwwww ✨✨
Since when did you learn programming? Really curious 👀
I think a bit more than 10 years?
@@jamie_dev
"That's impressive! What first got you interested in programming?"
@@riufq I wanted to make games 🤣
I just use trello and throw TOdo there lol
All the golang videos deleted?
Hi! I moved them here: www.youtube.com/@JamieGo-id9xu
I'm surprised that you use the costly Premier Pro, when you don't use any other Adobe product.
oh yes... you are right. it comes with a price 😊I use photoshop and after effects too so I have the creative cloud bundle. But I heard Davici Resolve is a good free substitute so I'm planning to change after my subscription ends. btw thanks for watching!!
What the heck my name is Jamie too and I’m a dev
Best name ever 🤣
These things costs money I don't have.
Hi! there should be free alternatives. for example, instead of premiere pro you can use davinci resolve.
@@jamie_dev - Yeah there are quite a few free video editors. I'm talking about the mind-mapping software (I know, I can use paper if I want) and the stuff to do the fancy animations.
@@Uhfgood oh right~ you can use miro with the free plan (which is what I'm doing too) you don't need to pay but you can only make up to 3 boards.
Why would you develop a game on Mac when practically no one plays games on Mac
1:45 really? do you hardcode drop rates?
it's pain to see, because i immediately think about my own project and it would be a nightmare with hundreds of entities to manage them that way ) i actually came to see if you worked that problem out, but it seems there is no magic solution for me )
okay, np, i will write my own toolset for that, not the first time )
Hi! the code there is just an example of the mindmap explanation for the video. kind of like dummy code. But I'm more than happy to explain how I implementing this in my prototype. For static data that I don't need to store, I put them in a dictionary and load the resource. The dictionary code is generated from google sheets which i can copy and paste whenever I need to make some tweaks with calculations or equations (there are some screen recordings of this google sheets in my previous video). This will be my approach for the prototype, but when I later on scale for production I think I might be putting in some pooling logic to load data.
@@jamie_dev Thanks for the explanation )
I use google sheets as well + some in-house converter to the game data. The scary part is that sheets (and almost any kind of data to represent hundreds of objects with dozens of values each) don't have the "bird's eye" functionality. You can't see that something is going wrong before you tried that in the game. That's why i also use (since 2009) heatmaps to look at the data and easily see anomalies (i also use data slices based on some values but it's completely different thing to discuss). it looks like 3d spectrum analyzer )
I love to complicate things ) jk. The most exciting (to me) part of the game development is making efficient tools for that )
@@Rai2M oh wow looks like you've got a lot of data to manage. I'm just making a prototype so I don't think my method will be much helpful to you. But I should be worrying about this too when I build my whole game. I think I'll just sweep this problem under the carpet for now 🤣
@@jamie_dev yeah, don't overcomplicate ) i've seen so many people who tried to predict every possible scenario in their future game development and got stuck because they were overwhelmed by the size of that )
I love the KISS principle of programming ) It's amazing and works nicely )
You had me until Adobe and Apple entered the picture lol.
Well for video editing you can use Open shot, it's free and open source. For presentations there's a lot of free tools but I think that even a free tier Canva could be useful
Same but still super useful, subbed.
You can absolutely substitute those with Davinci Resolve and PowerPoint. It shouldnt be an issue!
