Sunday has been a character that I have been personally gravitated towards when we first saw him based on design alone and am very satisfied with his character throughout the story. He reached the top of my favourites when his design inspiration became more clear in 2.0 and is my favourite character now… A cool detail about Sunday is that under his suit he has a purple wing… yet there is only one, the other side is just a purple part of his clothing that same side is where he has the piercing on his white wings… his other wing is gone, and he is a bird that cannot fly and if he tried, he too would crash to the ground His sister is the strong but he sees himself as weak… he lived as the weak but now has a position of power to do something Sunday sees his previous actions of others because of the consequences of circumstance and others… he cared for the bird and released it but it still died, he thought his actions were wrong. He gave forgiveness to the criminal in hopes he could lead a new life and ideally save the children, he was lied to and considered his actions wrong. He supported Robin as she walked the Harmony but she was hurt for all her good deeds which reflected his own experiences. Ultimately all culminating in the reason he follows the path of Order, he personally saw all the consequences of these actions and if he cannot maintain control everything falls apart. I have one last thing to say about Sunday but I’ll keep that for the finale of the quest
Big agree! The VA's portrayal really makes it clear that Sunday has agonized over all of this. He's gone over these thoughts time and again, and the outcomes of his decisions genuinely hurt him.
Also Sunday should have mention Penguins to win all these birds arguments xD Also Props to Sundays VA he did an awesome job during the whole patch about the art Firefly is split in two as she is holding the device to turn into Sam. You also the gun for Boothill and white flowers for the deceased Trailblazers. The hound stands for Ghallagher
Lmao, so true XD And yes! I love how Sunday's VA portrayed him. Fantastic job! Thank you for further explaining the art! Damn, what a bunch of nice, little details
Where I agree that overcoming struggle and hardship is important but there are countless people which everyday is struggle til the end. That’s the reason I lean more to Sunday view even when I don’t agree with his solution. I think his work as lonely priest made him change as it show how ugly humankind is and made him believe it needs drastic measure to change it. It’s a good a question how much the dreammaster effected him but being alone without Robin didn’t help either. He truly is mislead but is not evil as he is willing to sacrifice himself instead of his sister
I don't really think you agree with Sunday, then. The entire disagreement between him and Robin is about method. They want the same thing. That's the whole tragedy.
I think there should be a middle ground - like I mentioned when we spoke to the elderly guest, I can't fault him for choosing Penacony. I would choose the same tbh. He has no loved ones, he's dying, there's not much for him to return to in reality, his time is short... I'd also be chillin' in Penacony in that instance lol the thing with Sunday's view is that he believes we shouldn't even try to fly in the first place. There's the potential that if we fly, we crash and burn, so Sunday would keep us caged and prevent us from ever even trying. I don't think Penacony is inherently a bad thing, but there should be a middle ground. I think it should be treated more as a vacation spot than a place to live forever... or, as in the case of that elderly guest, perhaps it could be a place one goes to enjoy the remainder of their days when they don't have much time left. Escaping from reality isn't wrong, but I also don't think it should be a permanent solution or way of life, and I think we should have the right to try and fail.
The biggest flaw in Sunday's worldview is that he thinks "The world is the way it is because it naturally arrived here". But that's not the case at all. Literally so, in the case of Penacony. The exploitation that Sunday sees in Penacony (something Acheron and Welt talked about in 2.1) didn't just come from nowhere. It isn't nature: it came from the choices made and the material conditions that Penacony was created from. Who decided that a hotel visit should cost much? Why are the 12 Moments set up the way they are? Why did the IPC build a prison here in the first place? Why do people seek to take the "value" that Sunday speaks of from others; are they perhaps rewarded by society for doing so? Doubly so, when The Dreamscape is literally created from Memoria (the "memory particles" from The Memory Zone, which is basically another dimension). Would you go to Disneyworld, point to Main Street USA, and say "this is the real America"? Of course not, it's a facade, a pastiche of the past, and yet Sunday looks Penacony and says "This is the work of nature, an inevitable outcome". The irony is that Robin, who has many "bird in a cage" themes, is actually the one who is free. By leaving Penacony, she was able to see and interact with others, and gain more perspective on her home. Meanwhile, Sunday has languished, spiraling into pessimism and self-loathing until he comes to the conclusion that he must sacrifice himself to create a world where no on can feel the way he feels again.
Look, all I'm saying is, maybe Sunday should open with the 'seven days of rest' line, he'd get people on board a lot easier that way XD I ended up choosing the answers opposite of Sunday with his 3 questions, but I can 100% empathize with his thought process regardless. I love it, and it makes him a really compelling antagonist. And after you mentioned it, I started noticing a lot of Code Geass parallels with his plan. "Emperor Charles sought the past, you seek the present, but I seek the future", Sunday is definitely giving off Charles vibes, trying to keep everyone in a never-ending dream and stop them from moving forward.
Right? He had me there! I was totally on board with that part lol XD Totally fair! I thought about choosing opposite, but I was afraid I wouldn't get the same insight, and overall I actually don't disagree with most of Sunday's decisions. Like you said, he's very compelling. They did a great job developing his character, and that whole sequence offered such incredible insight into his thought process! Yes! Even the dynamic between him and Robin kinda gives me Code Geass vibes. Sunday clearly cares for her a lot, and based on that dialogue between him and Gopher Wood towards the end of this video, it sounds like he is planning to sacrifice himself for her in some way? Obviously his ideology is quite different from Lelouch, but there are definitely some parallels there, which I love because Code Geass is one of my favs
"Robin's decision to go on that journey gave her life meaning. So Sunday's ideal world is a world where people can't find meaning of their own." Incredible succinct statement of the problem with Sunday's philosophy. Really clear and precise analysis so fsr as always.
I wouldn't say his ideal world is like that, in fact listening to how he describes the state of people through his observations, and firefly's second scene with Blade, it's more that his ideal world is one where people no longer have to find meaning in their lives because the harshities that push us to those lines of thinking are no longer around.
"So Sunday's ideal world is a world where people can't find meaning of their own". That is not true at all. He is restricting a mere handful of futures which involve undue strife on a large scale and or have a high chance of ending in premature death. 90% of the population will be so unaffected to literally not perceive the restrictions of his dream. Most of the rest will be able to still follow their dreams, but perhaps not in the way they initially wanted to. Only a truly tiny minority, less than a percentage point, would actually be barred from their calling. For example, Robin's dream is to follow the teachings of the harmony and help people who are suffering. There are hundreds of ways she can do that, and quite literally only a tiny tiny number which involve putting herself in particular danger are problematic. And considering things like wars wouldn't exist within the dreamscape, in practice Robin wouldn't even be denied on this point, because there isn't a war to go to. Sunday is very clear that everyday should be Sunday *precisely because* people then can spend more time following their desires (or, if you prefer, the 99% of desires which are not problematic for harmony).

Some tips for the final battle: 1. If the game resets the battle speed to 1x, try to remain 1x, as some EN lines really delivered (there is one exact line was so intense that it surprised everyone, waiting for your reaction to it 😜) 2. Bring units that can break shield quickly, as imaginary trailblazer should be quite an obvious hint for it 3. Your boi Aventurine should be able to keep your whole team alive throughout the battle, so no worries once you bring him in P.S. next episode will have the biggest reveal of the Penacony arc, I can't wait for your reaction to it 😈
I do want to stream again someday, but it's unfortunately not in the cards for the foreseeable future. Just not enough time/energy - I used to stream story quests on Twitch, but since I have ADHD, I'd get very easily distracted wanting to talk to my chat and then wind up missing like half the story, so that's another reason I prefer not to stream them anymore 🤣
Harmony trailblazer is so cool. Super break is dummy broken and is gonna pair so well with boothill and any future dps thats break focused. Also 2 characters in the splash art that you missed were the hat represents misha and the hound is gallagher
"Imprisoned in the present" vs. "Trapped in the state of nature" seems to be the divide around 2:05:10 . I really do think the translators (and maybe og writers) should have leaned more on Hobbes for the language sunday used instead of darwinism (and by extension social darwinism, but he's trying to fix it but believes in it's assumptions?). It fits better with the strong/weak philosophy and isn't weirdly wrong science (since it's just philosophy which I also think is wrong but...)

Even in the matrix, there was no perfect solution, no perfect answer. Sunday and Robin are such well written characters. There is no right or wrong answer, no right or wrong path. Only choices and what we do with them. This quest gives us so much to think about, and so much to consider about ourselves. What would we do in those hypothetical situations? I like stories that make us introspect. That second choice with the stowaway selling his children is where we differed in our choices. I was angry about him selling his children to slaves. He had enough money to travel to Penacony. He'd have enough money to feed his family. But the outcome of not calling off the bloodhounds? He continues being a stowaway, and they enter the dreamscape in unsafe conditions. Without the dream pool that we enter the dream in, their real bodies fade and die rapidly. That guy just dies in reality while dreaming about striking it rich. Like you said, you can understand why Sunday is the way he is. Even if I don't agree with his path. Sunday’s ideal world is basically to make a biblical Heaven…except for the fact that he is planning to trap the people of Penacony in the sweet dream…i think he kinda had a valid point there…
I'm gonna be honest, Sunday's second question isn't even one that I had to think about. Regardless of his reasoning, as someone who's parent did just up and leave us one day, it wouldn't matter to those kids why he did it. Edit: Especially since it's not even that he "gave up" his kids, but sold, them. He literally claimed tom have traded them away, just to make more money.

@@onslaughtx8309 GOD. Anime Aventurine would make me so happy! I would LOVE a Penacony anime. Also agree about the Stellaron Hunters. I would absolutely watch a series about them 🤩
@@himetsukich Anime aventurine? You mean 2.1? :D
@@onslaughtx8309 Haha, true XD
Sunday’s ideal world is basically to make a biblical Heaven…except for the fact that he is planning to trap the people of Penacony in the sweet dream…i think he kinda had a valid point there…
Let's gooo
I'm gonna be honest, Sunday's second question isn't even one that I had to think about. Regardless of his reasoning, as someone who's parent did just up and leave us one day, it wouldn't matter to those kids why he did it.
Edit: Especially since it's not even that he "gave up" his kids, but sold, them. He literally claimed tom have traded them away, just to make more money.
Ah yes, Penacony, the land of the Yaps. Where every time you want to stop there is over 30 mins of cutscenes and talking.
