      So, like the sims from Season 3? I'm not sure that's a brighter outlook. Although, of course, on the surface it's preferable to discovering you've built a consciousness and stuffing into a sex doll to be abused and murdered repeatedly for 35 years before just popping it out for the public when when your time is up. Ford really was an epic fuck-up of a villain.

      For sure. Plus with virtual world, you can be in your own private server without other people. In physical world there's no way you can just have an entire park for yourself unless you're super rich. But scenario possibility will be the most important. They might be able to build a couple worlds in physical form but in virtual, it will be endless.

    It would be a lot more cost effective for a big corporation to focus on creating the Westworld experience in a matrix simulation rather than reserve a whole part of a theme park for 1 person at a time.
    The space and energy required to give a customer the same experience in the simulation would be a tiny fraction of the robotics option.

Today it’s so normalized that people might even say ”Not another transwoman…” while being annoyed. Twenty or thirty years into the future they might not even react to it.
      The same goes for having AI-robots as partners or xxx-tools. But it’s possible that houses will be built with personal recreational rooms where you keep your things private, or it might be normal to get closets or just put up a curtain in your house to hide your robot. I think the most normal thing will be to have human interactions with your robot. So when your not spending time in bed it will clean your house, guard it, be an assistant to you et cetera.
      It might be normal to have several girlfriends if you want doing stuff for you. Life could be great and those girlfriends will probably be pretty normal to have.

    living tissue doesn't take a lot of energy. Depends on metabolic rate which can be quite malleable and be slowed significantly. There are cells that use very small amount of energy and can last for very long time on minimal energy. Such cells can be seen on organisms in bottom of the ocean and in organisms living within deep earth within rocks.

      @jameso2290 Год назад +2

      Part of the problem of using lower energy cells is that lower energy means lower heat output as well. So you run the risk of using synthetic skin feels cold and corpse-like.
      Nobody is actively thinking this, but one of the things we enjoy about human touch is the body heat. And that heat is partly a byproduct of the higher energy in our cells.
      Sure you can probably also put heating elements in a robot to simulate body heat. But at point you might as well use fully synthetic skin and not run the risk of killing of cellular skin.
      Of course also, if you use real like cells, you run the risk of that tissue actually dying and rotting. Then you literally have a rotting walking corpse at your theme park. Not fun.

    • @adamrak7560
      @adamrak7560 Год назад

      @@jameso2290 in Westworld (for the latest model) all actuators are made of synthetic muscle tissue, Basically everything is made of some kind of highly engineered "living" tissue, except the control unit which is a "quantum" computer. One small exception is that the liquid cooling pump for the control unit seems to be a standard rotary pump, at least guessing by the sound of it.
      The tissue can survive without oxygen quite a long time. This is very important for the 3D printing part, because it does not get much oxygen before the blood circulation is started. It also rots a lot slower than normal, maybe they have incorporated completely different molecules into its structure. Those molecules are not digestible by bacteria.
      If a host is too damaged they can simply reprint the body, which is implied to be very cheap to do, much much cheaper than the carbon fiber plastic bodies.

    This is one of my favorite shows of all time, but I've stopped recommending it to people because it cuts off before its conclusion, and I don't think it paints the difficult issues of AI in a light that welcomes new people to engage with them in a healthy way. I love it, and recommended it for years, but now I'm afraid of the pessimism it might pour onto very real world issues and challenges that require optimism and effort to meet. At the same time, it's one of the best made shows I've ever seen, especially the first two seasons, and I wish more people would have taken the conversations it posits more seriously while it was on. Like Logan Delos, we haven't realized how far things have gone already until we could see them, and a lot of people still don't. Unlike Westworld, humans are learning about AI and the potential for AGI long before it gets trapped in a sex robot and shot dead for decades as its training data (we think, anyway). It's hard for me to imagine, with the immediate rise of GPT NPCs in Unreal and other design platforms, that something like it is far behind. We could probably build Old Bill, right now. Ameca isn't far off the mark in its current state.

I think we all could agree that humanity have had access to electricity for the past let’s say 150 130 years however they’re still people on this planet, that never have electricity, yet those of us that live in more developed countries use electricity without a second thought. Don’t you think that it’s going to be the same thing with all of these developments in AI and machine learning. I have a feeling that poorest countries will be left hanging.

    When will we get Westworld as depicted in the series. Given the highly advanced technology used in that sci-fi story, it will take a very long time indeed to have anything close to that. Given the rate of development of we should call smart automation (not AI, since true general AI does not exist yet), and the lack of understanding about what makes humans intelligent, conscious and sentient, then I would say something close to Westworld may be possible in about 100-300 years. Depending on breakthroughs in certain technologies.
    It took about 50 years to get robotics to the place it is now. Clunky, stiff movements. Not human looking. Unable to look like humans at all. Limited movements. Short autonomously powered operation. Limited understanding of environment, taking decades of training. Niche motor skills rather than generalised motor skills. To move indestinguishably from a human is a huge challenge which will take many more decades.
    Then intelligent autonomous control, that can be articulated like a human in dialogue with the robot. This is centuries away to reach the level of Westworld. General intelligence needs human science to discover how consciousness truelly arisis, and how self awareness and autonomous thoughts and actions arise. Smart language models like ChatGPT are clever automation for summarising the content of the Internet into answers to questions, but it is not intelligent nor scientient.
    The tech industry made a mistake of misusing the term AI and applying it to pattern recognition engines, machine learning tools, smart automation, etc. True general AI still hasn't been invented yet.

      Your prediction is irrelevant as Westworld will be created in a virtual space within 30 years. It is mostly a question of computational power, but it does not make sense to create Westworld as described in the series. So, Westworld will never be created. If you wonder about what would be hypothetically possible to recreate Westworld as described in the series. Well, it would take more time, mostly due to the cost, but not the prediction you made. The park itself, already possible in 20 years to create the base models and something mostly resembling humans. To create Westwold 1:1, it would be something for either the next century, or require an ASI to be invented.

      Just to pick at it a little bit, do you think that would change if the cost went down, and convincing humanoid robots became inexpensive? Part of the structure of Westworld that I've been thinking of, often, is the roll that secrecy played in misaligning an AGI and then fomenting a disaster that set it loose on a rampage. The AI project was secret, it became more so when Delos bought it, it catered only to the super rich, and only they had anything like the hosts (that we learn of, anyway). What if we took those conditions away? In our world, the efforts to build AGI are (mostly) known. We can even make educated guesses that OpenAI has more than they are comfortable letting anyone see, because they've said so and we can see their release pace calming and their public security testing going up. Nonetheless, they and others are working on humanoid robots. Like ChatGPT, some parts of some of those efforts are becoming successful. We find ourselves in a place where a few manufacturing emphases and robotics/ AI breakthroughs, and something very close to Westworld may become frighteningly affordable to build. Maybe less sophisticated, and likely less hazardous, if only because the success of the AGI project In Westworld enabled the park, whereas this would be combining existing systems for a more deliberate purpose. But, assuming those conditions changed in ways we can see them starting to, today, do you think it'll happen? Bear in mind that Disney is the largest robotics company on the planet, today.

      @@andydougherty3791 odds are, like what Elon might be trying to do with Tesla; robot assistant living. Putting as many robots in as many homes. The more tasks each robot does. (Like Tesla cars) the smarter the robots as a whole get. The more robots all over the place, the more money for Tesla, the more something _wrong_ could go down like West world. I see Love Death Robot, automated customer service, a higher potential then Westworld.
      -----
      Hardware is going to take a moment to catch up, there's no getting around physically creating advanced technology, you can time travel to the 1800s with a complete knowledge of how a smartphone is made, but getting one made before you kick the bucket would be nearly impossible. AGI could simulate hardware needed to run "locally" but production will take a while. So for now AGI will live on massive data servers or the internet (with distributed computing).

      @@jonathanlindsey8864 I'd agree that in home robot assistants are a more realistic threat than theme park robots, butt I think the tech is further than we're granting it. The cognitive software isn't there, yet, but we can see it pretty clearly from where we are, now. The robotics need another year or two, probably. Maybe a couple more for something really convincing, but workable in 1-2 sounds likely. Maybe most importantly, and more concerning, Westworld was operated on a giant, statonary data center. They imply the hosts could run outside the park in S2, but we also know that the park was close to LA, where they did the Delos demo. It's open to guess whether they used a smaller server tech to take a limited number of them off site, or their servers just worked that far away, but in any case the giant data center is a part of the show's portrayal as well. Dolores even need to set up more data centers to keep it going.

      @@saerain That's probably more accurate, and to be honest I think the portrayal in Westworld is a few more years off, still. Ameca, TeslaBot, etc., have dimensions of it, but the Metahuman is here, now, and animated in realtime via real human facial movement as an online Avatar, if you want to put the work in. There's also the builds using ChatGPT to run NPCs, sometimes to a frightening extent. I think as of today, though, we could build Old Bill from Westworld (if you haven't seen it, he's an early model host with a visibly human appearance but robotic movements and limited speech functions).

I think doing it right with blockchain number crunching for blocks shifted over to power LLMs instead can be good by having the blockchain itself operating as a kind of DNA of that system with a kill switch. Second, women will definitely be more likely to use robotic companions than men. Men like to philosophise about these things but women are already using a lot of sex objects and machines.
