Ocean Liner Ambience - RMS Lusitania On Her Maiden Voyage (Night) (1 Hour)

The RMS Lusitania was a beautiful ship and one that began a new age of splendour and luxury at sea. Constructed for the Cunard Line by Scottish shipbuilders John Brown & Company with financial support from the British Admiralty, she was in 1907 the largest ship afloat, coming in at an overall length of 787ft and weighing in at 31550 gross registered tons. She was powered by four Direct Drive Parsons Steam Turbines, producing 76,000 hp and capable of propelling the ship to a top speed of around 25 knots (28.8 mph), enough for this Greyhound of the Sea to clinch the Blue Riband award for the fastest transatlantic crossing on her second voyage.
Lusitania would have a very successful career until the outbreak of World War I and her untimely demise at the hands of the German U-boat U-20 on the afternoon of May 7th, 1915. On that fateful day, 1197 lives were lost, and public opinion swiftly turned against Germany in the wake of the sinking.
