I'm having a problem with it myself just bought it and shit keeps blowing out the fuse... I using speaker wire to and a switch before the fuse ? If yall have any ideas lmk pls
I have a love-hate relationship with electric windows - I love the convenience and the ability to open any window I want from the drivers seat. I hate the fact on some cars the windows don't work with the ignition switched off. I love the speed with which the windows open and close when having to use access cards etc when its raining. I hate the fact that if your electric windows break you're totally screwed until you repair them. I don't think a manual window winder has ever malfunctioned in the 4.5 billion year history of the planet.
Well, I know two e36's that have a malfunctioning manual window winder, it just keeps falling off the rail and you cant wind it up without lifting the window by hand (going to get it fixed soon)
+Simon Coles I break manual handles all the time because I'm too damn tall and I have to wind them in some bunk way that snaps them in half. At least if they are cheap plastic. I honestly carry spares when I have a car that has them, you are not wrong by the way I'm a special case.
I agree with you and another thing is for some reason if you drive into a lake or a river u have to smash out the window but if u have the old school wind up windows u can simply stay calm and roll the window down if you can't open the door with the water pressure anyways I'm going to be doing this mod to my truck soon because I don't plan on driving my lifted beautiful pickup truck into water any time soon haha
Just did it today with the help of you guys! Took me a little while to figure out where to run the power from! Got it from directly behind the ignition!
I was lucky upgrading my old Lancer, got the parts of another car that came with power windows and got matching door cards and switches so it looks like the car always had power windows. Even got them wired so they work with ACC on. Also got some power mirrors off the same car and chucked them on, makes life a lot easier!
getting the clip out from the window winder is really easy with a thin dish towel. just get in between the trim and the winder and start rotating to find the clip. i think you guys are smart enough to fill in the rest
I had a friend install mine 10 years ago. I was just in Hilo Hawaii the wettest place on earth when the belt on my old after market PW finally broke after too many bumps off roading. I removed the door panel in a car park....got the window to stay up manually .It was pouring rain......Thankfully I have been paying attention to how things work.I'm ordering this set tomorrow. Shouldn't be hard since I already have PW installed.Just swap it all out.The new ones look way more solid .Thanks guys !!!!
My 28 year old LandRover Defender is now getting power windows. I bought the kit after watching this video. Thanks guys. No more leaning over the shift nob to wind down the passenger side. Happy Days
I know this is old, but as an aside: I have an old ranger with what used to be manual windows. I put this in, but I also wanted my alarm (Viper 2way remote) to be able to close windows when locking the car or by a button on the remote. So I wired this right onto the battery, then relayed it so that it only gets power either when the ignition is on at least in accessory, or when I lock the car or press an aux button on the remote, it fires a relay that runs the motor up or down for five seconds which is more than enough time to open or close the windows. Also diodes in between to stop the relays backfeeding and doing weird stuff. I'm keeping that truck as my utility vehicle until it falls apart, so I've been loading it with TONS of convenience features. Heated seats, heated steering wheel, power seats, etc. It's proving lots of fun installing all the toys.
i didnt use a aftermarket kit. i checked for original window lifter from the junkyard for my model of car and it worked like a charm on a peugeot 205. even the cables were already inside the doors.
Some time later after this episode was made they had put up a photo of a ultrasound showing a little baby and the caption on the picture said that she had said yes.
I put these in electric power widow motors in My work truck after watching your video. I have to say the install was a bit painful to the finger, but soo worth the install! I have been wanting power windows for awhile now but never found any worth the money Until I saw this install. They are work great and I'm very pleased with the results. Thanks guys!
Cool trick for removing the window handles, you can just use a rag, holding two corners of the rag, run it up and behind the window handle and work it back and forth, it just pops right off.
well i think i just asked the incorrect question for my situation. but my car is a base model s13 240sx, meaning i have manual windows and locks. was searching for about a week how to swap over but i end up figuring it out myself. i had power doors installed in a non power car with a converted manual crank window.
I remember watching this video when it came out and watching for entertainment purpose. 11 years on and I’m re-watching for educational/instructional purpose.
You should have installed a window rollup module for when you install an alarm. My dad growing up always bought the cheapest car on the lot with power nothing. I made sure that my second car and there after had power windows, door locks, steering and so on just because I never had it growing up and it seemed like everyone else did.
Awesome you did this for a mn guy, he is a fellow honda owner and told me about this on a local forum called mnhondas.com awesome you guys did this! Good people for sure
Thank you for the excellent explanation I have a 2007 Silverado Standard SINGLE CAB and one glass .. Handel + normal doors, what is your advice for the best to adjust to electric? And how they are connected to electricity? I do not have enough experience I hope I find an explanation of it with a compatible device for my car
+SynC TBONE To what i understood, you need + and - cables and then you need also the controller's cable. Just like installing any switch using electric device in your car.
I have to say; I am really impresses with this modification. I went to Amazon and found that this exact kit is 56.99 and is (In my mind) worth every penny. I'll never be worried about a base model with wind-up windows again...
If the car has the option to have power windows already installed at the factory, I imagine the ideal way to do this would be to buy the original factory mechanisms and they SHOULD just bolt on (the door itself may be different depending on whether or not it has a power window though)...it might even be cheaper getting them second hand. That's what I did when I electrified the rear windows on mine :D
I used to have this shitty car with front electric windows, the passenger side stopped working so I converted it to a manual wind up window regulator. It also had a fist size hole in the wing that I covered with layers of brown tape and then painted the tape to match the car body. One of the best I have had.
One thing I noticed in this episode was a lack of showing much about which place they got the power from. Did I miss that part? Other than that, it was good. Probably a little rushed, but a great project that's pretty simple. Good work guys!
At 8:30, a lot of cars are like that. The power widows are connected to the battery which makes it easy for people to use a wire hanger and push the button, giving them access to your car. I've had experience with this when people locked their keys in the car. Some cars, just push the button. This is also true for the unlock buttons.
Do not use silicon spray as they intended in this video. I did and I regretted this thing to hell. This silicon so called lubricant will dry out and create so much friction, that window would barely move. It creates unnecessarily load on motor and my motor eventually died in a year or so. I had to use WD Penrtrator Oil to clean up that dried silicon "lubricant". Other than that, this video helped me to convert window to power one very easy. Thanks a ton!
I love watching your videos guys! I had one of the first high-torque window motors in the 80's but, they were external. You had to take of the hand winder and then fit this sandwich box onto the door to make the whole thing electric :oD
Great job on the video, lived the humour too. As for the umbrella had, lol, I've got the same one. I'm watching this in the states. Oregon. Don't know if you get these messages after all these years or not.
Cool, nice video but where can I get a kit like that. I like how the little electric motor is the one scrolling down and up the manual windows and also the added on aftermarket buttons on it. Goodbye for the handle.
I totally forgot this existed until 2 weeks ago, so I ordered a set, now my missus' 68 volkswagen beetle has power windows and central locking. The original window winder is used as the switch ;) looks completely stock :D
If you're asking about the system itself, the electric window kit automatically stops winding once it hits a certain resistance. If you're asking about the switch, because the winder actually technically pivots off of the switch toggle, it will only go as far as the switch toggle. Believe it or not, it's actually really easy, but it does take time and thought.
You won't break a toggle switch by putting pressure on it, they're actually unbelievably hard to break. I ordered 3 on purpose to see how breakable they were, and I still now have the third switch that I wasn't able to break, got them off ebay, just cheap ones.
The window winder can also come out if you take a thin cloth and slide it behind the handle. Careful though sometimes it pops out and is very hard to find. But you might not even need it anyways considering...
that kit is very good and pretty easy to install aslong as u know what ur doing, im doin it now and its so simple, hardest part is finding how to mount it, wiring is way simpler than you would think
I've heard that these aftermarket power window motors burn out frequently. Have either of your motors burned out yet? If so, how long did they work properly?
quick trick, slide a rag around the window handle, and run the rag around the pivot, by holding both corners of the rag, and it will catch the clip, and unhook it off the handle, that way u wont risk scratching the door panel :)
you guys are amazing. i'm a 16 year old and always wanted to do what you guys do for a living. what do i need to study in order to do what you guys do. and how many years of schooling and any college recommendations or classes i should take in high school or when i get out of high school. Please respond. Thanks guys keep up the awesome job
Another quick tip for removing your winders is instead of fishing around with a tool you can use a towel or rag and gently rock back and forth, it'll push the pin out no problem. Just be careful not to bend the thing.
***** Alright, have you head the saying " Only real men drive manual cars"? Wells that's what my joke was based off of. You're a kid you don't know anything about cars so i would stop talking.
watching this in 2019 because its the only video ive found explaining how to do this 😂
So true, Im trying to get it done to a landmaster
Let me know if you ended up doing it. I’d like to do it to my Jeep. I also want to do the locks
I'm having a problem with it myself just bought it and shit keeps blowing out the fuse... I using speaker wire to and a switch before the fuse ? If yall have any ideas lmk pls
Well here I am in 2020. Fucking dumpster fire of a year. Lol the manual window struggle is for real!

What stops the motor when the glass reaches the 2 up-down ends?
i think its just a torque cut off. like if it cant push any futher it just stops
As above or it has a torque clutch gear that when it too much pressure is happening it slips
Is the turd missing a rear wheel lug???
Anyone hear if she said yes?
I'll never have to do the majority of the projects these guys go over in their videos... but I watch them anyways... because they're awesome...

electrical connections are not explained 😕

Is there a link or website to order that from cuz I would lik to order tha for my civic??????
You own a Honda, so go to your local parts store (ebay) and browse the aisles (search) for a power window conversion kit.
Hey Guys i know is video is old AF but i was wondering if you could show what to do with all the wiring, like what goes where and so on... ?
Corey Langer if you can't figure out that basic wiring you shouldn't be working on cars.
Ground/black wire to something metallic and red go to something with power
My Renault hasn't got a single phillips or flat head screw in it - it's all torx. Is that like standard with euros ? :|
yeah, the French love using them
Germans too
my old volvo 240
My late model Volvo is full of torx and hex bolts
Ford uses Torx for interior panels as well, at least in North America
Watching in 2020, you guys haven't changed much
I already have electric windows but i enjoy watching these guys work on cars. Its bad ass!!!!! MCM!
How can i make my electric window manual ?
Step 1 sell your car Step 2 buy an older on
lol, thaks, i think i will do that anyway
NO PROBLEM
Why would you anyway?
PommyDownUnder98 for the glory of satan !
Wonder if you can go from power windows to manual... Power windows are unreliable shit, and regulators cost a fortune to replace.
did you try watching the video in reverse?
Luis Longoria hahahahaha
