Confession I don't peel large carrots. I just take a brand new scotch Brite pad (the green ones that don't come with the sponge) and under some cold water I just scrub them clean. Less waste and its easier and faster. Chop as normal. My hubby showed me that because when he worked at a ponderosa as a teenager that's what they did in the restaurant

I love these type videos. My nephew (28 ) asked me recently to create almost homemade meals for less than $4 ea. YAY! Most were about $3. Canned meats, eggs, Rice-A-Roni and Knorr $1 packages, Frozen 89c veggies. Made him 1 week of menus for $45 - 3 meals a day. After the first week he told me it was all awesome. So proud that he is willing to cook his own meals. Walmart is the only place I can find canned ham in a small can. I have been following Meals with Maria for about a year now. She is great.

Dollar tree in some places has smaller “spam” type cans. (It really just depends on the store as the one close to me often has very different stuff than the one about 40 minutes away.) They also sometimes have spices and other items. I have found lots of products are “interesting”. Some Dollar trees have frozen foods also.

    Swap out
    1. the stewing beef for 2 packs of Tofu (Tofu and beef have same protein amount but while beef is higher in potassium Tofu is higher in calcium, folate and omega 3s as well as lower in fat)
    2. Lentils for the ground turkey (lentils again high in thiamin and folate, lower in protein but still decent amounts, lower cholesterol, high in iron and dietary fiber which we don't get enough of- could keep fuller longer)
Both of those swaps could save you at least $5 on the low end, probably up to $7/$8 depending on where you are. And lentils stay good forever when Dried, and can be a bulk Pantry staple to have on hand to keep future grocery bills low.

Love your videos! I'm not American and sometimes what many would take for granted to be easy to cook with the classic ingredients you find in USA supermarkets well, it's not for me! I can cook Italian food pretty well but I'm still struggling with things like chocolate chips cookies or pies despite having been here for almost 10 years. Thanks to your videos I get some inspiration for meals using what's largely available here!
On the spices topic, I just wanted to say that I find them relatively expensive at Walmart. If you have one of those Mexican supermarkets or something like 99 cents store around you, they carry the small plastic bags of spices, those are usually 3 to 4 times cheaper than the jars sold at Walmart and you just need to refill.
Thank you again for your work!

I made mild Italian sausage with spaghetti & Chucky Tomato Sauce for last night's dinner..l don't want to make more spaghetti with the remainders of the Italian sausage or the sauce l thought about ordering a cheese pizza (which would be a treat) & use my remaining leftovers on the pizza. Depends on the price of the pizza plus delivery.

we make sausage pizza all the time from scratch, and we have 3 different crust recipes: a regular rising crust, a box pizza style of crust, and a crazy crust which doesn't need yeast. If you can make a sauce, you can make a pizza.

You've showed me it can be done. I was skeptical and thought it was so much higher where I live, so I priced it out and my WalMart order came out to 21.66 before tax which I feel like is comparable to your prices. I saw your egg price on the shelf of $5.12 and thought we were being overcharged since our eggs are $6.73 for a dozen, but when I shopped along with you, I saw that it really isn't that much higher here overall. Unless you buy eggs.

I actually regularly purchase those Martha White muffin mixes!
I like to mix the Strawberry Cheesecake flavor and the Blueberry Cheesecake flavor together.
I bake them together in a cake tin for a "sheet pan pancake" vibe that is just delicious and almost always available in my kitchen.

It is soooo hard to feed the people lately! We are a family of 4, but I also make dinner once ever 2 weeks for my in-laws, so on those nights we are 7. It's gotten harder and harder to buy food. I actually go shopping in a near consistent state of prayer- between the people I encounter, to the prices of food and my personal feelings about it, it's hard. My husband recently got a new, higher paying job, but with the prices of food, we are eating almost like we did as newly weds 12 years ago on his military income. I'm on the hunt for the cheapest meals I can find to incorporate into our already pretty cheap dinner menu.
I stay home with my two kids every day. My little hobbits eat breakfast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner, and occasional bedtime snack. Every. Day. Its like trying to feed two teenagers, and they're not teens yet. I can't imagine what it's going to be like when they are. 😅 I need some other meal ideas. Most day, we eat leftovers for lunch, because nothing irks me like wasted food, but snacks are really difficult. I don't buy much snack food, and I try to have things like boiled eggs, cheese, fruits and veggies ready for them to grab, however, we do one big monthly shopping trip as we live quite rural, so just popping into the grocery store is not an option, unless I happen to be in town.
