Yes, this is precisely where my husband and I are at with his siblings .... and after 36 years of me being ostracized from his family, we are both working together to change the dysfunction and unhealthy behaviors. A reset has been in the works for about 6 months and I finally feel hopeful that things will change for the better for our marriage. I will no longer be a doormat with my in-laws ...those days are done!

The time for the prospective couple to talk about and settle the 'leaving and cleaving' issue is before you get engaged. Most couples find out the hard way they should have discussed it after they've just gotten married and one spouse finds out their new wife or husband hasn't left their parent (usually their mother). This allows the mother-in-law to begin damaging the new marriage immediately after the rings are on the fingers. Unless you have a new mother-in-law that's in the 1 0r 2 %, your mother-in-law will try to destroy your new marriage. Guaranteed.
Thanks for message Pastor. my sons father passed 3 months after i was proposed, our life has been ...busy. 3 years later we decide to cut my sons fathers side off ( my son has 3 siblings with his dad under the age of 10) i was baptized 6 months before all of these life events, my statement before baptizing. " I want to break chains..." GOD DELIVERS. it took a lot, a lot of reading, praying and just leaning on Jesus. after 3 years, we are getting married and my son, well he's at peace about his dad and future.
