    I know it's been about 6 years since you built the board, but I'm just now getting around to watching the video. It's interesting how there are a lot of different techniques for building a wooden board and it's always fun to watch them go together. I enjoyed this video, and the cool thing was, that you got to do it with your Dad. SoCal.

      Surfrider Ameland thanks for your reply,the purple tint actually comes from the oils in the resin used in the glassing of the board

    thanks for your comments,yes my dad and myself have worked with timber all our lives ,not much with a camera ! .We have since made another hollow board with the left over timber,5ft x 20in x 2 5/8. with this board we made from scratch including the internal spline.I think with patience any one with the correct tools can make one of these boards

    When the board shaping and fine tuning was completed i went to PCC Pattersons Surfboard Factory (Taren Point ) where the timber board was glassed with epoxy resin and fibreglass matting then sanded and polish finished to a high gloss.Cost varies but approx $500 for a shortboard for this finish ,
    hope this answers your question , cheers

    hey what wood did you use and do you think i could use yellow popler for the mail deck and what was that white fabric you used in the shop and what glaze was that too? im making a board in my woodworking class so i need the detals
    thanks for the vid

    • @tuberideable
      @tuberideable 10 лет назад

      We used mainly paulownia timber , second lightest to balsa . I'm not familiar with the yellow poplar but it it's light why not . , the matting used was 4 oz fiberglass with epoxy resin , cheers Paul

    Hi Paul,
    Is there an alternative on paulownia and balsa wood for crafting chambered surfboards? I live in Croatia so mediterranean wood is my prefered choice if there is any usable for surfboards.
    Tnx

    • @paulryan4885
      @paulryan4885 9 лет назад

      Ian Bonifačić the next lightest timber for example will be Pine which is another soft timber for ease of building . almost any light timber can be used for your board just remember the heaver the finished surfboard the sluggish will be the performance in the surf
