He went a little more in depth about his name at a convention panel. She though Misha was a nickname for Dmitri when it actually isn't, at least not in Russian(according to Misha). As far as I know the English version of Dmitri is James, (that's what the Greek version Demetri is, I don't know about it in Russian) so Misha could be an acceptable hodgepodge mixed nickname of the English and the original.

It is clear he's older than that, in season 6 in episode "The man who would be king" Castiel tells his own story and he makes a reference to human evolution ("Don't step on that fish, Castiel, big plans for that fish"). But - I'm not sure, I could be making this up - I think that somewhere it has been said that compared to other angels, he's rather young.
Monocerosik I think that makes sense within the context of the series. He's clearly been around enough to have seen a lot of human history, but the way some of the other angels treat him suggests he's rather young in comparison. Fun interview. I'm glad we get to see things like this with the cast.
