Fred is relaxed cuz he took himself out of the system. He didn’t play the game. He found out he was bigger overseas and stuck with that market. In America he’s a black actor. Overseas he’s an action star. White people had Eastwood, brothas have Fred Williamson. :)
He was spot on about the film industry as well as his take on Oprah. The interviewer attempted to give Fred Williamson an out. However, he reiterated on what he said sticking to his beliefs!
I'm black .. not american, but european from birth.. Oprah doesn't represents me at all, neither a lot of african-americans... Black people are not the same everywhere, you know.. We have a huge diversity between us, that's the African Culture, the same Culture and History, that the West, tried to erase from the face of the Earth for centuries.. Just like they tried to do, with the Indians from the Americas...
@MsCaramello73 if he does, it's his right to feel the way he does. This new mindset of people are mean or not defending stupidity for the sake of uplifting race is nauseating. Oprah isn't for the "culture" either. She used to tear down black men during her interviews, but that was ok? 🙄
@MsCaramello73 Google her interviews with LL Cool J, Jay Z, 50 cent. They aren't my favorite people but she brought up things that she shouldn't have but coddled, was empathetic, and explained away the same issues Drew Barrymore (for example) experienced.

Fred “The Hammer” Williamson has been my favorite brother ever in movies. I respect his grind and not letting Hollywood kill his career because he refused to compromise his character and play characters that were not who he is.. Strong, Confident and of course Fine as wine. I still binge on all his films he made in Hollywood and the one’s he made in Europe. Much Respect to The Hammer!!!!!!
Good example of what Fred is talking about is Tyrese Gibson made a movie about police brutality. He was very proud of it. No one saw it without proper marketing and distribution.
OMG I never knew this about Hollywood! I have always appreciated his work, but his calm-sincere approach of fighting injustice is amazing the me! "Blaxploitation" is to be studied, understood, changed, but never looked at as anger and/or propaganda!
"Blaxploitation " is nothing new in Hollywood. I'm sure if Hattie Daniel's, and the other Black stars who were here in the 30's ,40's and 50's could all tell you some stories, starting with their pay compared to the pay of Europeans. Red Foxx ( Fred Sandford,), Pam Grier, Godfrey Cambridge, James Earl Jones, Diane Carroll and many many others had to go through it, but when the exploitation of Black Americans were committed by other Black Americans it was all of a sudden accepted and viewed as a different kind of exploitation from Black Americans. Samuel L Jackson played a crazy slave, but I can guarantee you he told Quinton Tarrentino to not confuse his acting with who he is. I mean who really don't believe movies like Cotton Comes to Harlem, Hammer, Which way is Up are not "Blaxploitation" at one of its finest? The reason why they're called " Black Movies" is because the targeted audience were Black Americans not because of the stars. So portraying Black Americans playing, pimps, drug dealers, drug users, prostitutes theives, and coming from ghettos isn't "Black Exploitation "
Give me a break Fred is as bigger sell out than Ophra, in the 70's he was sell menthol cigarettes, malt liqour and pimping to black people, his only problem with Ophra is that she got dirty rich and he didn't. It's not the lighting. I met him around a year after this interview, and that was exactly how he looked. It's the amount of melanin in his skin that keeps the skin of people of darker complexion looking younger than their age.
@@miriamjones3067 True. One of the reasons old people in general usually look like they do is because your skin gets more translucent as you age, strong skin pigmentation makes that effect much more subtle. There's also moisture, which your skin retains less of at high age. So aside from looking in good health overall, I bet Fred is certain to remoisturize his skin with an ointment or something after taking showers, or if he's been out in biting cold weather or baking hot sun, also using sun screen. That kind of simple thing really does a lot for your appearance, especially if you keep it up as you age.

Him talking about Oprah, he IS jealous of her. And YES, men can be jealous of women. The fact he went for her physical appearance, screams he IS jealous of her success and power, and him going for her physical appearance was his way of trying to belittle her (because society defines women negatively and positively by their physical attractiveness) to make himself feel better. Whenever a man feels entitled to (wants) something a woman possesses, it could be her body/sex, her time and in this case her power and success, BUT he is not getting it, it will make him mad THEN he will belittle her physical appearance because he knows in society that means a lot to a woman and that is a way to hurt her by belittling her in that way.

@MsCaramello73 if he does, it's his right to feel the way he does. This new mindset of people are mean or not defending stupidity for the sake of uplifting race is nauseating. Oprah isn't for the "culture" either. She used to tear down black men during her interviews, but that was ok? 🙄

Nope not crying at all. Just shedding light on character flaws and men who need to be mentored by REAL men who know how to respectful... #hitdogwillhollar
His wife is white. I don't care nothing about him.
Fred could have kept that "fat" part. But the brother did break it all the way down. And in regards to Hollywood, he was being discrete and diplomatic, somewhat. You can tell he knows what the real deal is. And he said more of it than most ever will. 8 years after this interview, and he's still in the game.
He seems old and bitter. No one even sees his movies.
Absolutely one thousand percent correct about Hollywood and Oprah . A real black man makes me proud . The legendary Fred Williamson .
This interview was interesting, since Fred Williamson is right in society promoting BW.
However Fred Williamson doesn't support BW.
His reflection on Oprah Winfrey's looks is nasty
Oh my God….he’s speaking facts❤ and he still looks amazing
Icon, trailblazer, pioneer, give this man his flowers now...
He was spot on about Oprah..i remember when the late Paul Mooney called her a "double agent"
They all sound jealous of her
Spot on, Mr. Williamson! I wish that I had seen this many years ago. Not surprised that I didn't; it's a strong statement.
Just like we haven't seen any of his obscure movies
One of his best film was a black western adios amigos with him staring himself a nd the noticeable mr Richard pryor and hell up in harlem
Very well said.
I’m glad he said it,
“The way he said it” !!!
He told nothing but the truth
That's a smart Brother right there, I have the greatest respect for this Brother.
Great speech my brother ❤❤💯💪🏾👍🏾
You never saw these guys wear a dress.... a true lesson for our scared black actors to embrace! True kings... not kings who are queens behind closed doors. You brothers know who you are! Step up & be the true king that u suppose to represent from Our Creator!
Yes she does. She show that Blacks can be just as successful. She's an inspiration of great achievement when you put in the time.
Sweetheart there is no need to explain anything because black people don’t like Oprah and really don’t have any real reason to not like her. Her resume speaks for itself. Especially for black women to not like her is ridiculous. She has given plenty of black women and girls opportunities of a lifetime. I’m not going back and forth with none of this woke pro black people in this comment section.❤
"Honey, you've got a big storm coming."
3 The Hard Way...sho nuff!
Just love ❤️ Fred!!! 👍🏽
Mr. Fred Williamson made an observation of those in the film industry and he explained how they systematically continue their practice to this day. Hope it gets better with those who can recognize the power to control their own destiny.
He wants to talk systematics all the while married to a non blk female. GTFOH!!!😂
Awwhh!! This Brother Knows The True Insiders Colors Of Hollywood, I Remember Fred Williamson From Back In The Day As One Of Hollywood's Most Popular Black Action Films Actors 😮
I thought this was the preview to tropic thunder 2
Fred Williamson is right about Hollywood only wanting money. But I find it interesting that he seems to resent Black women for being successful - that he does not even mention Ava DuVernay (director of Selma) is telling.
Ouch! Bullseye!
Kristine Maitland He's not resentful that she has money. He's resentful that she has no integrity!
Ava basically went into business with Oprah. Her politics are just as Bad now.
That was your take away? Geeesh.
❤it need to see MORE Fred Williams.
My favorite Black actor of all time...The Hammer..Fred Williamson.
Damn that’s heavy ‼️‼️🫡🎤🫱🏿🫲🏾
