Yes exactly! Kiev, Brussels and Washington have been standing for 2½ years now, pointing at each other and saying "I'm not stopping my support for this strategy or saying that it might be time to consider negotations, until HE /other fella in the trio/ says he thinks it's time". That kind of pretended "musketeer unity" is just a way of ducking the question "who really is calling the shots here?".
Kiev is 99% dependent on the West to be able to keep up the war effort, even to keep their society functioning, and they're not winning at all, so reasonably it would be mostly the US that has the decisive say, but no one's going to admit that of course.
That is not a peace summit..it is just a summit to collect more money for ukraine..

The main part of the Russian proposal is not about the territories. It's about the "de-Nazification", de-militarization and neutral status of Ukraine. Which are impossible to achieve, until Ukraine is under US/NAZTO control. Therefore, Putin's suggestion is calling for US and NAZTO to GTFO from Ukraine. Which in turn means, Ulraine will be controlled by Russia and that will let them reshape the country to their (Russian) liking. Politically, economically and territorially -wise.

It seems people are fully unaware of the ramping up of the western MIC, so just as an overall information message, taking the 155mm shells as example (but the ramping up of production in the western MIC is pretty much on every item used in Ukraine):
- The US used to produce 120k 155mm shells per year in early 2022, it has gone up to 336k/year now and is on track to reach about 1,000k/year at the end of 2024.
- The EU (not accounting for the 152mm shells they also produce in significant quantities) used to produce around 500k 155mm shells per year in 2022, it has gone up to 1,000k/year by the end of 2023 and is on track to reach 1,600k/year by the end of 2025 (if 152mm not accounted for).
So that means a combined production that went from around 800k/year to a bit more than 2,000k/year at the end of 2024 and at probably a minimum of 2,6k/year at the end of 2025. (without the 152mm production and without any further increase of US production in 2025 or acceleration on the EU's side, which they are talking about).
The russian numbers are bigger of course and I'm certain most will find enough reasons to be totally dismissive of the facts (like, for example, that not all the shells will go to Ukraine), but the ramping up is undeniable and I just wanted to pass the info, as it seems the reliance on the main stream media for information has brought most to miss that tiny bit of development.
It doesn't prevent Russia from producing/refurbishing between 3 and 5 million 152mm shells / year ;p and I'm not putting here any specific remark on quality, cost nor talking of the efficiency of the use of the shells, just informing about the fact the ramping up of the western MIC is a thing that is indeed happening, using 155mm shells as illustration.
More like not all the shells of the western MIC go to Ukraine.
The west sells lots of these to other countries.

I'd add that the amount that could go to Ukraine would be the total amount made, minus the amount of shells that the NATO needs annually for training, minus the amount needed to rebuild depleted stockpiles for other wars. I'm assuming that the US cycles through 120k per year, for instance.

I saw that report, it said they would be able to produce that much but only if they could get the materials which they cannot do at their current production. Not sure what they will do in that area.

In 2014 there was a coup. Soon after, there was a massacre in Odessa (dozens of people were burned alive). Ethnic Russians living in Ukraine were treated as subhuman. Their language and culture was being oppressed. A civil war broke out due to the rise in ethnic tensions. For 8 years the Ukrainian military was indiscriminately shelling civilians living in Donbas.
If Zelensky honored the Minsk agreement and pledged neutrality, none of this would have happened. The 8 year civil war would have ended and Donbas would have remained part of Ukraine. War is the ultimate failure of diplomacy.
Zelensky, Poroshenko, Merkel and Hollande admitted that Ukraine had no intention to honor the Minsk agreements.
Who didn't want peace? Who advised against the 2022 peace talks in April? Hint: someone visited Zelensky in Kiev at that time.
Russia's national security was compromised once NATO began to expand eastwards. Russia clearly stated that Ukraine joining NATO was a red line (November 2021) and unfortunately this concern was never taken seriously. The Russians openly stated: if nothing changes, we will be forced to act in order to defend our national security. Enhancing the national security of one country at the expense of another is unacceptable. The Russians have legitimate security concerns.

The azov troops trapped in the azovstal steelworks in Mariupol used human shields. They refused to allow civilians to leave despite of humanitarian corridors being present.
Russia held a proposed cease fire in order for the civilians to leave, but azov would not allow the civilians to leave.

Putin already addressed the question of the Russian methodology for clearing territory. They're squeezing rather than trying to do things quickly and that means artillery takes precedence to save Russian troops.
I think they could sacrifice a lot of armour and people and drive forward a lot quicker but why would they?
