I did the animation, sound design, and compositing. My colleague Rick Cortez did the more impressive VFX, and another friend Matt VanAndel did the color correction, and my brother Brian built the Lonely Mountain and Master of Laketown's house.
may i know what type of lenses you using right now for the shooting? im still considering wether to buy the 60mm or 100mm macro lens. thanks a lot for this video.
the finished video is out standing!!!! i love every thing about it. i wish i could make something as good as yours. i also love your behind the scenes videos because i get an idea of how you make your wonderful films
I just watched the full video, it amazing! I'm glad LEGO is partnering with you, you're one of if not the best LEGO brick-filmer. Your videos are very inspirational!
Brotherhoodworkshop you are my hero and my favourite youtube e you bring a smile to my face everytime I see your videos and cheer me up when I'm down. Also you are the best stopmotion person i have ever watched. I hope you kepp doing your videos. I love watching your videos to help me with my LEGO stop motions. Thank you for being a great person in the world peace.😀
One of the most awesome brickfilms I've ever seen! Thanks for making this masterpiece and this BTS video is really illustrative and inspiring. Thanks again for sharing this nice work :)
Love all of your videos Brotherhood Workshop. Watch the David Crowder Band SMS Shine music video. All stop motion with a lightbright. Honestly really incredible what they did. The 5 part behind the scenes is also worth it haha.
I fell like the audience, in most cases doesnt appreciate the work that the film maker does. Videos like this really show the audience that its not so easy as they might think.
I love your videos so much. I first found your channel when I watched your hobbit Halloween video and then kept watching more and more of your videos until I eventually subbed. You do fantastic work and you are easily the best stop motion creator on you tube and one of my favourite you tubers. Keep up this amazing work please. When lego stop doing the lotr and hobbit line can you continue because I absolutely love your videos and this one is your best one yet.
In the future I want to be a lego designer, and I very like your stop-motions,my stop-motions are waaaaay worse, then yours)) and I am your old viewer, but I don't really have so much of a tripods, laps, cameras, etc. But I have a lot of Lego, just because I collect them for 9 years, and I even have a mini figure from 1994 ! This is amazing!Because I was born in 2000!))
Hey Brotherhood workshop I just thought i'd tell you that I found Gollum! He's hiding in the trees in the trees when Bilbo is running on the Barrel. You can ust see the back of him, so he looks like the branches and twigs! Good job hiding him!, also I found Yazneg on the portrait of the master of Lake Town.
brother hood work shop i love your stop motions. Please do another totorial to now the new things that you use and the tricks for do a stop motion ralli good please.
Here's my question: What cheap or free animation software would you recommend for starters--not as basic as the lego app, but not as complex as dragonframe? I have a Canon EOS Rebel T3i, so I'd like something that could connect to it...
This is a video I made for the LEGO Group, so it will be on their channel. But that is ok. They paid me well for it. And if they hadn't paid me, I woudln't have been able to make it half as epic.
So when you do it its awesome but when other people do it it makes them a sellout? I think it's cool that you are doing this, and when other people work with a company I think it's cool, but when other people work for or with another company people call them a sellout. I don't get it.
wow! I mean, wow! I had no idea this took you guys so long! I love your work, and someday, when I have lots of money, and more time, and wish to make ones as good as this! :)
BrotherhoodWorkshop hi. I'm an amateur stop motion artist and was curious on what lights would work. For xmas I got a limo studio set up (along w dragon frame) that came w 4 lights that had reflective umbrellas, would those work?
This video is awesome! Its great to see you guys working on stuff for the LEGO channel! I've always been curious what lenses you use. My work with DSLRs have always resulted in very shallow depth of field, even when using a small aperture.
Amazing, amazing, amazing!!! I know everybody says that, but you´re AWESOME!! I have two questions: - All your LEGO THE HOBBIT sets are given from the LEGO company? - When are you going to upload the next video??
BrotherhoodWorkshop i think that you should do awesome-breathtaking stop motions of Transformers. what i like about Transformers is that they're not simple moving figures (if you know what i mean) they can go from being a robot to a sleek sports car, shoot guns, fly, lots of possibility, and are highly recommended in my personal opinion. if you want to check out some of my stop motions. i highly recommend Dinobot Battle Royale 2. the ones before that had some minor mistakes. btw, you inspired me to do my stop motions.
That Smaug looks sexy. I hope they release a buyable model, whether a small one or the one in this video. Here's to hoping. PS: The magic that goes behind these type of films leaves me in awe.
WOW! Best brickfilm ever! You should make an official movie for the cinema really! This is great work! I do brickfilms as well but their crap compared to this! Really great job in effects.. What programs do you use for the effects?
Two questions! 1) Is the final product released and if not, when will it? If so, where can I find it? 2) I've noticed in your behind-the-scenes videos that you use a lot of clay and it seems to work well, but in the final products that clay is rarely if ever seen apart from the ground. So... I guess another multipart question- what kind of clay are you using and do you use any special tricks to keep it out of the final shots? Finally, a cheesy but genuinely well-meant thank you because your work has inspired me to return to my own stop-motion projects (and begin work on a LEGO version of Macbeth). So yeah, thank you a thousand times over and I love your videos!
Well, this puts my special effects budget to shame. Very cool!
I dont even have VFX
Love how your videos still manage to hold up almost a decade later
I still enjoy "The Han Solo affair" and that came out nearly 20 years ago 😁
Where do you get the special effects used for explosions and such?
It's from a stock library called Action Essentials
The Action 🦇🐶🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🐻
It’s the Action Brick I’ve watched you
The Aggravation of Smaug is one of my favorite videos on the Internet, good job.
This was truely incredible. Is it just you alone making all this?
I did the animation, sound design, and compositing. My colleague Rick Cortez did the more impressive VFX, and another friend Matt VanAndel did the color correction, and my brother Brian built the Lonely Mountain and Master of Laketown's house.
How do u find the time
@@FifthRobin he sais in video that lego paid him to do that particular
Thank you for making these videos. They have inspired me to make my own
FrozenLakeFilms me three
Same
so inspiring
Crap, I need more behind the scenes to make my films better!
Same
I always find myself back at these BTS videos. They’re a blast and always impressive 🍻
That background trick where you build things separately and composite it into the background paper is just so genius.
may i know what type of lenses you using right now for the shooting? im still considering wether to buy the 60mm or 100mm macro lens. thanks a lot for this video.
You guys are clearly masters when it comes to lego stop motion. Keep up the great work Brotherhood!
the finished video is out standing!!!!
i love every thing about it.
i wish i could make something as good as yours.
i also love your behind the scenes videos because i get an idea of how you make your wonderful films
I just watched the full video, it amazing! I'm glad LEGO is partnering with you, you're one of if not the best LEGO brick-filmer. Your videos are very inspirational!
i loved this stop motion, so funny, and it combines many different sets, and parts of the films
This makes me wonder why you guys have only 75,000 subscribers... There's no way this talent should go unnoticed.
Ikr :)
THESE SET PIECES ARE SO AMAZING!!!!!!!
Glad you like them :) I'm proud of my Erebor stuff.
Brotherhood workshop you are the best Lego maker and you have great ideas
Brotherhoodworkshop you are my hero and my favourite youtube e you bring a smile to my face everytime I see your videos and cheer me up when I'm down. Aggravation of Smaug was absolutely great!
One of the most awesome brickfilms I've ever seen! Thanks for making this masterpiece and this BTS video is really illustrative and inspiring. Thanks again for sharing this nice work :)

Wow... You already have the new sets. You're very lucky !
thanks for inspiring me with your movies and behind the scenes.
Love all of your videos Brotherhood Workshop. Watch the David Crowder Band SMS Shine music video. All stop motion with a lightbright. Honestly really incredible what they did. The 5 part behind the scenes is also worth it haha.
I am extremely impressed with this video. Amazing job! It was phenomenal!
Well done! It looks like no matter what. You always seem to find a way. I hope you get payed a lot for doing these hard stop motions for LEGO
I fell like the audience, in most cases doesnt appreciate the work that the film maker does. Videos like this really show the audience that its not so easy as they might think.
How do u already have that lego set with smaug already I can't wait to get the lonely mountain set. Bilbo is cool in the purple jacket
I really love how it ties in with middle earth motors.
I love your videos so much. I first found your channel when I watched your hobbit Halloween video and then kept watching more and more of your videos until I eventually subbed. Wonderful bts!

The actual video is amazing! Some of your best work :D
Your works are masterpieces
Hey Brotherhood workshop I just thought i'd tell you that I found Gollum! He's hiding in the trees in the trees when Bilbo is running on the Barrel. You can ust see the back of him, so he looks like the branches and twigs! Good job hiding him!, also I found Yazneg on the portrait of the master of Lake Town.
Oh! I found him.
***** Me too!
At 1:47 in the top right corner you can see him crawling into a barrel.
I wish I had a work ethic like you. Your videos are great!
That is amazing! I am looking forward to the new sets from The Hobbit
This was a very informative video! It shows that you put a lot of effort into making your lego animations! Keep up the good work man!
brother hood work shop i love your stop motions.
Please do another totorial to now the new things that you use and the tricks for do a stop motion ralli good please.
It obviously takes so much effort to create these awesome vids! Good thing I was already subscribed a long time ago! Keep up the sweet work guys!
Also 0 dislikes! Nice! I gave it a like anyway!
Here's my question:
What cheap or free animation software would you recommend for starters--not as basic as the lego app, but not as complex as dragonframe? I have a Canon EOS Rebel T3i, so I'd like something that could connect to it...
I used istopmotion for several years and had no complaints. I'm pretty sure it's like $50. www.boinx.com/istopmotion/mac/
BrotherhoodWorkshop I use an app called StopMotionStudio Pro. It's actually very good and it only costs about $5 on the App Store!
BrotherhoodWorkshop For my animations, I use IkitMovie 3.2. Its about $70.00 and it comes with TONS of effects.
Wait, you guys actually paid for your stop motion programs?
Lex Schoones what do you use
Wow this looks good
Thanks! Make sure to check out the full video on the LEGO Hobbit page :) Link in the description
Awesome, this Brickfilm looks really good!

My question:
How do you animate calm water and running water?
Your videos are amazing by the way =D

Hey nugget how is your summer so far? Say hi to Mrs Davidson and Farrar and
Mr Rob and Wallis for me Wil ya?
Did Lego give you that Bilbo and that Smaug?!! Thats so cool, if they did, you should tell them to make MORE The Hobbit lego sets for the next movie!
Oh man your so lucky you got to use the OFFICIAL Smaug lego figure!
And why didnt you upload the result on your channel?
Keep up the amazing work!
This is a video I made for the LEGO Group, so it will be on their channel. But that is ok. They paid me well for it. And if they hadn't paid me, I woudln't have been able to make it half as epic.
Ezra Frankema yup. It's awesome.
BrotherhoodWorkshop hey u take the pictures you worry about saking the camera
So when you do it its awesome but when other people do it it makes them a sellout? I think it's cool that you are doing this, and when other people work with a company I think it's cool, but when other people work for or with another company people call them a sellout. I don't get it.
+JackBluebee the only people who call someone a sellout are jealous pathetic unsuccessful people.
amazing workmanship
wow! I mean, wow! I had no idea this took you guys so long! I love your work, and someday, when I have lots of money, and more time, and wish to make ones as good as this! :)
this is awesome dude! never thought animating legos was that easy
Awesome, you have a lot of talent continue with the great work
How did you form a partnership with Lego?
They liked my work, so they contacted me
Didn't you used to use syran rap as water too?
BrotherhoodWorkshop hi. I'm an amateur stop motion artist and was curious on what lights would work. For xmas I got a limo studio set up (along w dragon frame) that came w 4 lights that had reflective umbrellas, would those work?
LEGO FURY/ CEMETRO FILMS its lights just use them
Love your vids. Your the one who inspired me to animate and not give up !!!!
This video is awesome! Its great to see you guys working on stuff for the LEGO channel! I've always been curious what lenses you use. My work with DSLRs have always resulted in very shallow depth of field, even when using a small aperture.
Were you able to say to the lego group: Hey I need a smaug a village a dol guldur and lots of minifigures! and then then they gave them to you

Amazing, amazing, amazing!!! I know everybody says that, but you´re AWESOME!! I have two questions:

the The Aggravation of Smaug video is so awesome, wonder will you involve in Lego Movie 2 in future if they going to do it :D
BrotherhoodWorkshop i think that you should do awesome-breathtaking stop motions of Transformers.
what i like about Transformers is that they're not simple moving figures
(if you know what i mean)
they can go from being a robot to a sleek sports car, shoot guns, fly, lots of possibility, and are highly recommended in my personal opinion.
if you want to check out some of my stop motions.
i highly recommend Dinobot Battle Royale 2. the ones before that had some minor mistakes.

1. It's up on the LEGO website, link in description.
2. It's van aken clay, and I try to carefully block it out.
Thanks man! I appreciate it!
