    When I was a kid living in Honokaa Hawaii, I used to listen to KFI, KNX and KDAY out of California on a standard AM radio at night. This was back in the early 1970s.

    The very best AM DXer radio is a Philco/Ford AM radio from a 1972 Ford LTD. You need to couple it with a AN-200 loop antenna with the cable. Nothing can beat it!

    Great video it’s great to finally see a video regarding transpacific dx especially from Hawaii great catches 73 De DXer George KF4ZKU Aloha from Florida! PS there is currently no station active from Cuba on 1010 kHz these days and I’ve never heard anything from Cuba here in Florida on this freq in the past 20 years only CFRB Toronto and Local WJXL the Zone Jacksonville Florida.

    I used to do that too. Have quite a few shortwave QSLs from the old days. AM has replaced shortwave now. I’ve always heard Hawaii is the best place in the world for DX. Maybe I can go there and listen sometime. Good RUclips presentation.

    A friend of mine had KNX during the grey line time sitting on a beach in Tahiti with just a standard AM radio.

    Fantastic Job my friend...
    the islands offer the best of listening even with small antennas ...
    I go to Ponza island, central Italy, Tyrrhenian sea a magnificent place to listen ...
    on winter mornings I have often listened to Florida and South America on the medium wave.
    Greetings from Italy and good listening.

    What the guys in northern Norway, Sweden and Finland hear is unreal. One bunch has 14 beverage antennas, at 1km long each. They hear Australia, New Zealand like locals...

    Thanks. I was using the Tecsun AN-200 and it was not working well. But with the Tecsun 368 I have .. it was a winner and I found a great combination.

    This is an outstanding documentary of your reception. What made it shine, was the detailed information and actual video of the station logs! Video quality was excellent and thanks for sharing with everyone your experience. Thanks for the video journal.

    Some good DX there Walt and what a great location! I mostly use a similar setup to you, PL-360, AN200 loop or YouLoop, I have however just invested in a Sangean PR-D4. It’s a powerful MW performer and cheaper than the C Crane models 👍🏼

    Next time you visit Hawaii, which is a great DX location whether you listen to medium or shortwaves, you should consider packing a very good radio for AM DX, the latest version of the C Crane CCRadio EP-Pro with DSP. This radio can pull in some good DX and C Crane is really good at offering receivers with outstanding performance and features.

    • @COASTALWAVESWIRES
      @COASTALWAVESWIRES  2 года назад +1

      Yes indeed! the EP-Pro is on my “get list”!

    • @joeh52
      @joeh52 2 года назад +1

      @@COASTALWAVESWIRES Ok thanks for the response, check out some YT reviews on the EP-Pro and you will learn just how well built this radio is especially how it digs out weak distant signals. With that loop antenna you have it would be the greatest AM DX team up, especially if you do your listening trip in Hawaii... maybe more Asian/Pacific signals next time!

    😜 wish k-rock was still around, now it’s just some hipster “Alternative” station 🤨. Really enjoy the mw DX. Used to be able to hear 1010 wins at night when I lived in concord mass, not super long range but still cool 🤙 btw I own the CountyComm version of that radio, is there any differences or do they just slap on there own label ?

    How many QSO You make as K4OGO/KH6/QRP?

  • @EarlHiggins
    @EarlHiggins 3 года назад +1

    Your 1010 Spanish station is most likely San Francisco. I heard it nightly from Hawaii. Cuba 500kw does not exist, certainly not at that power level. Cuba registers stations all the time, and then does not build them. It sounds much too strong to be a 5000 watt Mexican that is not widely reported.

    • @COASTALWAVESWIRES

      I don’t know, the programming on the 1010 khz kind of had that 1980s “communist” state broadcaster sound ;) … edit: on second thought it would not be unsurprising for “communist” style broadcasting to be emanating from W6-Land.

    • @COASTALWAVESWIRES
      @COASTALWAVESWIRES  Год назад +1

      That is a Malahit clone and honestly it’s horrible for AM DX, that’s why I only used it for local reception in the video.
