I am not sponsored by anyone! But I do share what I like and what I don't like. And I like a good coupon code to save a few bucks as much as you do (see below). My "perfect" crossbow setup these days includes:
Killer Instinct SWAT X1 (starting 2023)
Burris Oracle X Scope (since 2022)
Bunjie and I also recommend the following, 100% of time:
Burt Coyote Lumenoks (since 2012 or so) (save 10% on lumenok.com with coupon code BUNJIE )
Swhacker #251 3" cutting diameter crossbow broadheads (for our last 20 or 30 deer/hogs and woodchucks). Swhacker stopped production of the #251 in 2023 but never fear: the #243 is the same exact item, although a different color. You're good to use that one :)
Dragon Claw arrows from Wyvern Creations (good outfit, been buying different gear there for years, these arrows were great in the SWAT X1 throughout the 2023-4 Crossbow Seasons!)
Check out the Gear Page on our website, deathbybunjie.com. Again, I am not sponsored by anyone! But you can see what gear I like and don't like on that site. And if you buy from Amazon.com using one of those links, Death by Bunjie receives a small referral fee and you DO NOT pay more! How cool is that?
Bunjie (The Original Bunjie, The O.B.) is my 2010 Excalibur Axiom that got me hooked on crossbow hunting. This was my "one gun" for more than a decade and Bunjie's reliability is the reason I ONLY hunt with a crossbow. After killing dozens of deer, hogs, squirrels, woodchucks, and even a bear, Bunjie is now semi-retired, but still gets out every year and even killed two deer 2023--and a woodchuck at 81 yards!
Bunjie, Jr., is my daughter Genevieve's crossbow, an Excalibur Micro Suppressor 355. This crossbow was also a much appreciated gift from a Friend of Bunjie, and it changed Death by Bunjie forever by inspiring Genevieve to become a part of our story as a second-generation crossbow hunter, and it also convinced me there is a benefit to a newer, faster crossbow back in 2020 when I began the Quest for a Successor to Bunjie.
Enter Bunjie III (or Bunjie '21, Bunjie 3.0, The Slick Black Cadillac of Crossbows), a 2021 Scorpyd Deathstalker 420, the result of trying various models and looking at dozens of them online for characteristics I liked. It is, in fact, a gift from a Friend of Bunjie, which goes to show how important Friends of Bunjie are to this channel and what an impact they can have. Bunjie III is a testament to modern crossbows, producing over .7 slugs of momentum and almost 140 ft-lbs of kinetic energy with stock arrows--at around 400 fps! This crossbow helped expand the Kingdom fo Bunjie by introducing me to compound crossbows and showing me they're nothing to be feared, and also helped me get my first deer on public ground. This crossbow also inspired the "Rule of 400" that I talk about from time to time: a crossbow that can shoot a 400 grain arrow at 400 feet per second is the definition of a modern crossbow--producing over .7 slugs of momentum and over 140 foot pounds of kinetic energy, the envy of the archery world.
Again, I am not sponsored by these companies. I am sponsored by Friends of Bunjie! (I'm not asking for gifts whatsoever--please don't feel like you should send me stuff! But I do appreciate the support I've received over the years! I'm just trying to express my appreciation for that.)
Bunjie and I have written two books: The Death by Bunjie Crossbow Method ( amzn.to/3zJbAI0 ) and The Death by Bunjie Crossbow Story ( amzn.to/2Peq4aC ), both available on Amazon.com with those links.
Check out the Death by Bunjie podcast, Talking with Bunjie! It's available on deathbybunjie.com or on the podcast app of your choice.
    Facebook much? deathbybunjie
This channel is the result of combining my interest in filming and hunting...and music, too! The soundtrack for this channel is provided by my band, Yankee Militia. The albums "Live Free or Kill" and "Zombies Gotta Eat, Too!" are available on Amazon.com and elsewhere. A third album is in the works.
If you've read this far, then there is only one thing left to say:
    All Hail Bunjie!

Great information and I agree. But I have some questions. What camera (cell phone) arm do you use/ recommend, and do you have some kind of adapter for your phone that fits the arm? Also, I'm inclined to follow this logic but I'm concerned about exposing my $1k plus cell phone in the cold and elements all day especially during all day rut sits. I live in the northern climes and oftentimes hunt public. I don't have my own "back forty" and although I do have some great private I hunt on, I also use my phone a lot for navigation. I'm just wondering what you do to keep your phone on the ready both for filming and navigation but also for safety if needed? I do carry a charge device but hate to get all that junk out. Anyway, what are your additional arguments Mr. Barrister? Thanks and I really enjoy your channel and the book isn't bad either.

Love using the tactacams. I used to use my phone and it worked but didn’t have a good mount for it. Will look into it. With the tactacam mounted to the bow great shot video as long as you remember your filming and keeping pointed where it needs to be. I mess up often with that.

I am a photographer and will never give up my dslr's but I get your point. For video, I generally use gopros. They record in 5.3K, although 4k is all anyone needs. I do use my phone when my gopro isn't on me.

I totally get that for photography but let me throw this out there. My s24 has 200 megapixels. As I understand it, it uses all five lenses to take that picture. I can take a 100x picture and blow it up 10x and crop it to 10 megapixels. Not as good as a 250 mm on your DSLR but, man, on my phone, it's pretty impressive. And they are only going to be working in that direction more, and with the AI added into the mix you might replace that DSLR Never Say Never LOL

Once again, you are right! On several notes. I too don't understand people leaving their cell phones on their vehicle. Almost always even when I'm getting gas I'll put my phone in my pocket, along with my key's. Call me paranoid, but too many times I've seen or heard of someone having their vehicle entered and even stolen while pumping gas! Someone may get my vehicle but I'm not giving them the keys! And if someone were to somehow take my vehicle I'm not going to be left standing there with no way to call for help and to report it! Plus, I couldn't call anyone I know because I have gotten used to speed dialing or calling from my contacts! lol Also, I enjoyed this video just as much as a "regular hunting" video. Maybe at some point you and Genevieve can together and make a video on the how-to's of the use of the phone when hunting, such as set-up and how you go about "getting the shot" on the camera. I have tried in years past with the old cam-corder's and it was a pain in the butt to get the thing turned on in time to see the game or having it run out of battery life from being on for extended periods of time. Again, thank you for your time, knowledge, expertise and the information that you are sharing with us!

My S20 ultra is better than my dslr as well. DSLRs almost need a dedicated cameraman. Too much work and time required. I don't share the same view as you on this one! I can enjoy my hunt & nature without a cell phone. A person can place value on whatever they want in life. Although I appreciate the conveniences of my cell phone, I wouldn't pay more than $200 for one. I still know some successful, well-adjusted men that still use an old flip phone. They just make their wives google everything for them. LOL! I get your point Rich when it comes to filming hunts, but not everyone has to share your passion for that. I enjoy reading my pocket Bible while hunting & sharing that time with God. It's not something I need to film or share with someone else. I will leave that to the RUclips guys like yourself. Heck, I read your first book entirely in a turkey blind a couple years ago! It must have been a slow turkey season that year! 😃

All good points, but keep in mind I really wasn't saying you need to film your own hunts for the purpose of enjoying them later or putting them on RUclips LOL the value of seeing exactly where your shot goes is incredible, it's my number one tool for improving as a hunter when it comes to the moment that counts. It will tell me more about Arrow flight, Broadhead performance, accuracy, timing, speed and deer behavior than the naked eye can possibly do.

Are you still using the Tactacam on your crossbow, I'm think not? If I understand correctly, you are using 3 camera's on your hunts. 1) your cell phone on a mount to film the deer (replacing the DSLR) 2) a gopro down on the ground for another perspective, and 3) Tactacam NOT mounted on your crossbow but on a clamp doing something? Maybe a wide perspective filming you taking the shot? Thanks Rich, you're the best!

I only use the GoPro for time-lapses now. It's an old one but it does that pretty good. Do you think at some point we need to look at limiting crossbow speed? To stay on similar footing to compound bows? I don’t want to see crossbow and archery season split into different seasons. And compound hunters are already becoming vocal about the advantages of crossbows.
If we hit 600+fps and whacking whitetails at 70 or 100 yards becomes reasonable would we be shooting our self in the foot, loosing access to seasons?
