Communicores failure was caused by the design a coaster beaver dropping his sponsorship confirmed.
Epcot has gone down hill since the beaver left!
So dam frustrating!
*Sigh* Leave it to Beaver...
After booting the coaster beaver, Eisner also woodchuck most of EPCOT’s educational mission.
For real, though: that roller coaster beaver is one of three things I remember most clearly from ‘84 Communicore: him, the multiple-choice theater, and placing a call to my aunt in Illinois and watching how it was routed. Good times!!
Just went to Epcot a few days ago with my wife. She had never been before and I hadn't been there since 2011. I was FLOORED when I went into innoventions to find it essentially abandoned! It was my favorite part of the park because I loved seeing all the cool cutting edge technology and games. Sum of all the thrills was also my favorite, I was so pissed to see it gone!
I've been looking through your history of epcot videos and never realized how incredibly huge and full of content the park used to be compared to now.... Future world is essentially half empty and it's crazy to me they feel justified charging more than twice for admission >:(
As an adult though I really enjoyed world showcase
For me the park is basically just world showcase now. I normally skip right to it!
I was hoping Ice Station Cool would be mentioned....sponsored by Coca-Cola,its exterior was that of a snow mountain, with a (decorative) snow-making machine parked outside. But there really was such a machine inside, built into the ceiling of the (fake) snow tunnel you enter; after passing through two sets of thick plastic curtains, you feel a sudden, dramatic drop in temperature...because there was actual snow in there! It lead to a store where they sold Coke-themed merchandise, and you could sample sodas from other countries.
When it became Club Cool, they got rid of the snow tunnel.
oh snap, i totally forgot about that snow tunnel until now!
They removed the snow tunnel because a lot of people slipped in it because the tunnel sprayed snow and the floor was like a tile or something along those lines.

Slip & Falls,
AKA, the legal way to sue people over your own incompetence
I miss Innovations so much. It had so many amazing exhibits. I learned so many things there, mainly how paper is made and about polymers. I even made my own paper and plastic robots there.
When i was younger I loved that game with the saving money pig
I remember going through Innoventions a decade or two ago and being marvelled with the “smart home” technology, and I had heavy doubts that it would ever really happen. Flash forward to the present, and it is simply amazing to look back and realize that I had already played with all of these tools (albeit prototypes) as a child!
so one thing i've noticed about all of the "what used to be" theme park channles, i love that you guys all seem to collab with eachother
The Epcot computer center was all the geeky kids wet dream back in the day when computers were still scarce. I think its importance is hard to understand today, when we have an opulence of wifi smartphones everywhere.
I still have a Smart1 wind up toy souvenir on my shelf.
Really excellent look into one of the more bizarre areas of the Disney Parks! Sad to see it dying as it was always such a bizarrely wondrous area as a kid!
Sum of All Thrills was great. I rode it several times every time I was there. The storm simulator was good to. The problems with Innoventions, like CommuniCore, are the layout and location of the building. When you walk through the central plaza from Spaceship Earth to the lake, the buildings are off to the side and are easily bypassed. There is no signage as to what is inside. A possible solution would be to have video screens on the outside of the building showing what is inside. The should also print a detailed map of the building on the park maps that they give out. This situation got worse one you got inside the building, the layout is confusing, with dark and curving hallways. Most of the attractions in the buildings, such as Colortopia and Storm Struck, I discovered by accident. I would love it if they brought back a upgraded version of The Sum of Thrills and the roller coaster simulator (Cyberspace Mountain) that used to be in Disney Quest.
Now it can be called abandoned - innovations
Oh my god!!! I am shook! BSF is my favorite channel on RUclips!!!!! I love love loveee that you collaborate still binging on videos!
Haha yeah Jake was awesome
And helped out on one of my early videos! I think my newer videos are much better quality though. Hope you like them!
This change in theme from Walt’s original vision of a Epcott as a representation of a realistic Utopian Future to a standard four quadrant IP based theme park crowd pleaser is also indicative of a larger dumbing down of our culture
It’s so sad to see how Disney world and Epcot are going so down hill these days I haven’t been there in over 22 years just sad seeing things that where there when I was little all gone 😔
this is the epcot I remember not the mish mash of stuff there now.
I was a little confused by the opening of this video but I absolutely love Jake! So I watched the entirety! Jake is so handsome and adorable! I was hoping for more of him!! But great job on explaining the history of communicore!
Am i not handsome? :P Thanks haha
I remember going to Epcot going through Innoventions first thing in the morning. I felt like I was in some typical kids science museum with a bunch of empty tennants. The concept art looks amazing, so whatever happens with the center of Epcot it will deffinatly get rid of the old building and free up some space.
That was pretty Sci Fi looking back then. Ahhhh that 80`s "Futuristic" font on the signage, Damn I`m old.....
The future is here!
I used to love Innoventions! That house of the future was very cool, and predicted the smart home tech we are using today, 20 years ago!
I loved it too.
Watching this three years later...and now it is certainly "abandoned"
I miss inoventions so much was one of my favorite things to do at Epcot it was so chill
I mean, I knew epcot was in trouble. But they really need that refurb
Really bad
👍🏻 love the collaboration with @brightsunfilms
Glad you liked it!
I had NO IDEA that Epcot had Utiladors, too! Although I did hear the reason why that one particular corridor in Innoventions smells so bad (it’s above the main trash collection area downstairs)
Hi I'm Jake and Welcome to Abandoned, I was so happy yet confused lol
Chase Character Spot has been moved over to a building in between the Pixar film festival and Imagination because of the abandonment of Innoventions
Oh yeah, i completely forgot it had moved actually.
I played a demo of Kingdom Hearts there, or somewhere in Epcot featuring video games. Not a big fan of those games, but pretty neat childhood memory.
sum of all thrills was my all time favorite part of epcot , i feel so lucky to have experienced the ride twice alongside my dad and uncle who work at raytheon !
I loved sum of all thrills also! Was such a fun experience. Just a shame it didn’t have a higher capacity
Oh that’s why there’s the road themed floor in all of the character meeting areas 😅 I never got to experience communicore or the true innoventions
I love this collaboration! You've gained a new subscriber and I can't wait to dig into the rest of your videos.
I hope you enjoy them!
Felt like an airport terminal of the 70s with crazy cool stuff inside.
I was all happy to click on this… and then BAM! Jake! Tricky tricky
A WED-way through Communicore would’ve been… AMAZING!!!
Omg a colab of two of my faves yessss
Who meeee?
7:16
They were mainly using robotic arms like this at the time to build cars like Nissan were one of the world’s first companies to use a robotic assembly line for their vehicles and they introduced those lines around 1980-81! :)
Sheesh! I was lucky enough to go to EPCOT within it's first year, and I was only 13 or 14 years old. I was like, "Yes! This is the future! This is what Walt Disney wanted!" All the original Communicore attractions were, to my little teenage brain, the coolest way to present technology while being educational and fun. Now that I'm 46, I only look forward to visiting EPCOT to eat at the World Showcase. Kind of sad, but some of the food is SO GOOD! Awesome video, tickled my nostalgia bone.
Thank you! Im the same, i love world showcase and will skip through the front to get to it most times!
Great video love bright sun films and Expedition Theme park Yall should make another video together
Just saw this video and was shocked to see our video - thanks for giving credit though! Great video!
Thank you so much and thank you for the great footage! Really glad you liked the video
I don’t fault Disney as they are simply responding to what guests want. Unfortunately your average consumer is becoming less and less Sophia every day. I think if they really wanted to Disney could find ways to integrate more original non IP based attraction into Epcotts theming. One idea would be to draw from concepts explores in Japanese culture/cyberpunk and explore theme based coasters based off futuristic transportation mag lev, ( linear induction ) and anti gravity or do an attraction like a coaster that runs off renewables.
what do you mean by Sophia?
Interestingly enough, out of all the "punks," Biopunk is the most likely conclusion for the future.
@jbcomics - I think you’re mistaken about who Disney management responds to. Disney tells guests what guests want, not the other way around. Disney has a huge captive audience over whom it holds enormous sway, and Disney can literally dictate its tastes to that audience.
No, Disney CEOs basically cater to their major institutional shareholders - to be clear, not to you, or to me, or to someone holding 18 shares… but to the hedge fund dude, the one holding $800M in shares, and to his hedge fund buddies, and to the highly-paid board, who not coincidentally all went to school together.
And these hedge fund dudes aren’t people of vision, they’re people who want to line their pockets with easy cash and run.
So if someone at Disney has a fantastic idea for a ride that costs $80M but will bring in an extra $20M yearly, that gets run by the CEO who looks at the shareholders and says
“But can’t you build it for $20M so my shareholders and I can pocket $60M _NOW??”_
and the imagineer will say
“But… but… but your ROI will be 100% in 4 yrs. and then the rest is gravy!!”
and the CEO will reply,
“No, now I want you to build it for $10M and I want it to return $10M a year, and I’m pocketing the extra $70M right now, and yes your idea would’ve made more money in the long run, but my hedge fund buddy and I are outta here next year anyway with our golden parachutes, so… see ya!!”
and that’s how Wall St. and the crony cookie-cutter CEOs who all met at Wharton and bang one another’s wives eventually ruin everything.

Outside the Starbucks building in EPCOT, there's a sign that has the old Communicore logo in the back.
Yeah, hopefully it will remain!
Citizen of Corona holy shit. Do u have a picture of it? If so can u send me an image via text?
@@ExpeditionThemePark unfortunately not, heard its being removed in the next epcot renovation
Communicore shoud STILL be there! Along with the rest of Future World! It doesn't need rides that aren't related to future concepts!
I love how the Description still says Featurining Jake from Bright Sun Films
8:28 I love how Jake is so excited to finally find something abandoned in the video lol
As an EE, I'm willing to bet I'm one of the few people who've ever heard of Murata, but they do make good parts so good for them haha
The roller coaster beaver was fun in 1983. The next time I visited (1991?), it was still there, unchanged, and the computer graphics seemed really dated. I could do better on my home computer by then. I don't think the roller coaster simulation was actually performed in real time. It was probably a "choose your own adventure" laserdisc system. There weren't that many options.
The touch screen technology was pretty advanced for the early 80s. It was just a grid of touch-sensitive areas on the screen, but Disney's imagineers made it colorful and fun to use.
It was Sega came here at Innoventions, time flies, my childhood.
I clicked on the video and was like waittttttt this isn’t Expedition this is Abandoned. Ok, I will just watch this one. Nice collaboration guys
1:13 I love the old logos.
What’s happening to Epcot is so sad.
this is the second time watching this video and I suddenly had an idea (with many updates to make the buildings look more modern) ... maybe they could open both sides with exhibits showing the history of how technology has changed things ... hey the buildings are just sitting there now and maybe they can think of ways to show how 'out dated" tech ideas could be re-tooled to evolve and solve modern problems .... I haven't even been to Epcot in years but this state of future world ... minus maybe Spaceship earth ... and The Land Pavilion ... is sad
Good to see Jake again
I like how you theme park RUclips guys cross cross each others videos. You couldd start a conglomerate of the theme park work..
The meet and greet for chase got moved next to Imagination so even that’s not there anymore
"Spark of imagination"!?!! Are you telling me you're bringing Journey Into Imagination back?
Miss the old innoventions logo. What a era.
Great video, thanks!
U forgot to bring the Odyssey back up
It has its own video!
Omg JAKE yayyyy !! He's the one who got me into these theme park videos amd Disney in paticular ! I live for his "ABANDONED" videos :)
I can imagine jake siting there: "omg he said it closed but didn't say it was removed:" *ABANDONED*
Innoventions West now holds a little “lounge” for the public(? People could just walk in, no one had to check ID’s or stuff) near Club Cool as of June 2018.
They should have put that attraction that has NOTHING TO DO with Future World there instead of bumping Universe of Energy. Soon Epcot won't be Epcot, it will be Magic Kingdom South...
Pissed that I didn’t get to check this place out in 2009. I blame my marching band since we had to play at an espn basketball game that took FOREVER!!!!
I never knew about Sum Of All Thrills! It sounds like a really cool idea.
That opening caught me lol
12:14 I've found the dreamfinder!
Scrambled 59 I see another terrifying Willy wonka kill face this needs to become a meme
Them demolishing a giant chunk of the structure made no sense. They should have gotten rid of the front part of the Odyssey restaurant, since THAT hasn't been used for anything ever.
Great video! :)
Thank you very much!
I remained this piggy park litte area where u learn about saving it was fun and thought be to save lol
While trying to peek at Sum Of All Thrills in Innoventions, I was stopped by a cast member that told me Sum of All Thrills has been left sitting there with the simulator still in tact.
If that's the case they have no excuse not to use it.
Keep in mind, just because something is sitting there doesn't mean it's fully functional.
Last I recall from when I was in Innoventions a while ago, everything's still there behind the walls. Honestly, just re-do some of the things to get rid of the sponsorship and you'll have a nice C or D ticket attraction to pass the time until Guardians and Ratatouille are complete.
Guardians of the Galaxy marking a tonal shift in the original vision of Epcott is indicative of a larger risk averse mentality that is endemic through all types of entertainment
I sing the Computer Song waytoo often!
I do know they got Cornell University and the NSF to put a nanotechnology exhibit in the building. the big issue is the exhibit attractions' need sponsors' and Disney has issues keeping them interested in paying to keep them running. The Exxon one acted as the post show exhibit space that the actual energy building lacked the at&t one did the same as the original post show in spaceship earth was a epcot center guest services Center. Ironically the extra space in the communicore west could act as a replacement guest services building. The mistake Disney made was turning it in to ces the ride. Not even reporters like trade shows there pure chaos and you leave sick.
Same old Epcot Story, sponsors.
I miss the firefighter game so much!
Hey some news to tell ya I went to Epcot some days ago for a holiday trip....
What I hear by someone else a employee she said invention will be rebuilding in the honor for Walt Disney birthday or its 50th anniversary of Disney World something......
And I went to invention sometime 2001 and 2005, I remember less of 2001....
Yes despite of Dealrership and expire not to refused those it just like that....
Yea Invention is destroyed
OMG an educational atraction, quick get it outa here!
Be gone Attraction!
4:11 Ken Jennings should stick to Jeopardy.
It’s Jake from State Farm
Dang just went to Disney less than a week ago and the lower half of cumminicore East where club cool was is almost completely demolished.
But..but..my Starbucks!
And then west all of a sudden gets destroyed in the future
RIP EPCOT
Dang! Univac!
Source for particular shot at 7:04? Checked source listed and couldn't find that bit in their video.
That computer song is catchy
Yes! Too catchy
That's the Sherman Brothers for ya
I remember playing the Virtua Racing 8? player arcade game :-)
Yeah! Did you win?
Actually, yes. Me and my dad had been playing it for months back at home (UK), so we knew the game well - and we hammered everyone! Our prize you ask? Absolutely nothing lol
Except the great prize of them all. Being able to recall that proud moment years later. Now that is priceless! Haha
I see Starfleet is on shore leave that day...
So when are K-Perj and Offhand Dallin going to be guests?
I work in mousegear and there is honestly 0 remmnents of this place there the oldest stuff we have is old innovations sega stuff
Jake!!
Also back in the day innoventions had this Garbage exhibit and it was a huge staple of my trip to Epcot when I was younger
the little automation....name, From DC villian Comics , T-morrow.
Hey friend have you thought about redoing your older videos?
I don’t know what you’re talking about innoventions is always closed whenever I go to Epcot it’s been years since I’ve seen it open
It is open I was in there last month
I wonder if Apple bought Disney, would Apple bring back Innoventions?
I meant Communicore and be updated with the future of communication and technology
I think they would confuse 'bringing it back' with 'usurp it to _only_ showcase their own newest products'. Showing 'future' tech would mean showing it to competitors as well.
Also THATS TERRIFYING! PLEASE LET THAT NEVER EVER EVER HAPPEN FOR THE LOVE OF-
you wanna know something funny I do remember interacting with that robot in 1993!!!
The best part! :D
I miss the original Epcot, everything we grew up with, like horizon world of motion the original imagination after we rode the imagination ride we went upstairs and played with everything they had.. I didn't really care for wonders of life I do miss the original communicore and I do miss that song at the end of spaceship earth to.. I am going back to Disney Next month and you will not catch me in Epcot because only park I really care to go to is the Magic Kingdom.. I love your videos your doing about Disney, you should do a video about the best Restaurants to eat at in Disney, and one of them should be the trails end buffet in the campground, they call that place a hidden gem.. I've been there so many times if I walk in there a couple of people know me, I cannot go to Disney and not go there, best Breakfast to eat in Disney, I can't wait to go next month I love the smell when you walk in...
I went to Trails End not too long ago and love it. That and Hoop De Doo are in my top dining locations!
I enjoyed your film but I would appreciate it if you could credit that you got the Centorium photo from my Walt Dated World website (www.waltdatedworld.com).
Hey, i have added it in the description! Sorry this is one of my earlier videos and i didn't really know what i was doing regarding that. Thanks! I love your website.
Thank you. I appreciate it!
The title has a typo. Great video though!
It does? Also thank you!
Expedition Theme Park "Thie History..." it should be spelled "The History..." and No Problem
Oh wow yeah i didn't even see that. Thanks!
Expedition Theme Park No problem
Ken Jennings of Omnibus fame??!!
Oh welp no.
I still dont know why Disney needs 'sponsors' for Epcot, dont they charge like $70 to get in there? You dont see 'sponsors' at Animal Kingdom, Universal, Magic Kingdom, MGM, or any place else... meh.
I think Great America has or had sponsors for rides. Either way, I completely agree. I can't imagine how Disney isn't swimming in money.
Disney has priced out the middle class and they still manage to keep the place packed.
What the heck are you talking about? Animal Kingdom had McDonalds as a sponsor, Universal had Hess, Magic Kingdom had too many to list, MGM still has Hanes, etc.
There have been talks about putting and end to the sponsorship set up, I think it’s just a sort of “tradition” left over from Epcot’s early years
Apparently Disney isn't making enough money to keep formally sponsored rides/pavilions open, so they have to stuff their IPs in there to make more money. Don't be surprised if PIXAR comes out with a new movie starring colorful barnyard animals that becomes the next Monsters Inc. and once Chiquita drops their sponsorship of Living With The Land that Disney plugs that IP in there and renames it The Land With Angus and Pals, narrated by Angus the Cow voiced by Zach Galifianakis and Snarky the Rooster voiced by Cheech Marin.
What happened to that guy on a bed of nails tho
HanDoYT the nails disperse pressure evenly, which provides a solid backdrop for him to lie on, even when hit by a hammer. He was probably fine.
Now 2020 they are gone
That computer song was just so.....cringey
The computer makes life easier.... do da do
