    Just went to Epcot a few days ago with my wife. She had never been before and I hadn't been there since 2011. I was FLOORED when I went into innoventions to find it essentially abandoned! It was my favorite part of the park because I loved seeing all the cool cutting edge technology and games. Sum of all the thrills was also my favorite, I was so pissed to see it gone!
    I've been looking through your history of epcot videos and never realized how incredibly huge and full of content the park used to be compared to now.... Future world is essentially half empty and it's crazy to me they feel justified charging more than twice for admission >:(
    As an adult though I really enjoyed world showcase

    I was hoping Ice Station Cool would be mentioned....sponsored by Coca-Cola,its exterior was that of a snow mountain,with a (decorative) snow-making machine parked outside. But there really was such a machine inside,built into the ceiling of the (fake) snow tunnel you enter; after passing through two sets of thick plastic curtains,you feel a sudden,dramatic drop in temperature...because there was actual snow in there! It lead to a store where they sold Coke-themed merchandise,and you could sample sodas from other countries.
    When it became Club Cool,they got rid of the snow tunnel.

      They removed the snow tunnel because a lot of people slipped in it because the tunnel sprayed snow and the floor was like a tile or something along those lines.

    Sum of All Thrills was great. I rode it several times every time I was there. The storm simulator was good to. The problems with Innoventions, like CommuniCore, are the layout and location of the building. When you walk through the central plaza from Spaceship Earth to the lake, the buildings are off to the side and are easily bypassed. There is no signage as to what is inside. A possible solution would be to have video screens on the outside of the building showing what is inside. The should also print a detailed map of the building on the park maps that they give out. This situation got worse one you got inside the building, the layout is confusing, with dark and curving hallways. Most of the attractions in the buildings, such as Colortopia and Storm Struck, I discovered by accident. I would love it if they brought back a upgraded version of The Sum of Thrills and the roller coaster simulator (Cyberspace Mountain) that used to be in Disney Quest.

    Sheesh! I was lucky enough to go to EPCOT within it's first year, and I was only 13 or 14 years old. I was like, "Yes! This is the future! This is what Walt Disney wanted!" All the original Communicore attractions were, to my little teenage brain, the coolest way to present technology while being educational and fun. Now that I'm 46, I only look forward to visiting EPCOT to eat at the World Showcase. Kind of sad, but some of the food is SO GOOD! Awesome video, tickled my nostalgia bone.

    I don’t fault Disney as they are simply responding to what guests want. Unfortunately your average consumer is becoming less and less Sophia every day. I think if they really wanted to Disney could find ways to integrate more original non IP based attraction into Epcotts theming. One idea would be to draw from concepts explores in Japanese culture/cyberpunk and explore theme based coasters based off futuristic transportation mag lev, ( linear induction ) and anti gravity or do an attraction like a coaster that runs off renewables.

    • @777hobo777
      @777hobo777 5 лет назад +3

      what do you mean by Sophia?

    • @SirBlackReeds

      Interestingly enough, out of all the "punks," Biopunk is the most likely conclusion for the future.

    • @danopticon
      @danopticon 3 года назад

      @jbcomics - I think you’re mistaken about who Disney management responds to. Disney tells guests what guests want, not the other way around. Disney has a huge captive audience over whom it holds enormous sway, and Disney can literally dictate its tastes to that audience.
      No, Disney CEOs basically cater to their major institutional shareholders - to be clear, not to you, or to me, or to someone holding 18 shares… but to the hedge fund dude, the one holding $800M in shares, and to his hedge fund buddies, and to the highly-paid board, who not coincidentally all went to school together.
      And these hedge fund dudes aren’t people of vision, they’re people who want to line their pockets with easy cash and run.
      So if someone at Disney has a fantastic idea for a ride that costs $80M but will bring in an extra $20M yearly, that gets run by the CEO who looks at the shareholders and says
      “But can’t you build it for $20M so my shareholders and I can pocket $60M _NOW??”_
      and the imagineer will say
      “But… but… but your ROI will be 100% in 4 yrs. and then the rest is gravy!!”
      and the CEO will reply,
      “No, now I want you to build it for $10M and I want it to return $10M a year, and I’m pocketing the extra $70M right now, and yes your idea would’ve made more money in the long run, but my hedge fund buddy and I are outta here next year anyway with our golden parachutes, so… see ya!!”
      and that’s how Wall St. and the crony cookie-cutter CEOs who all met at Wharton and bang one another’s wives eventually ruin everything.
      🌈🎵The more you know!🎶💫

    The roller coaster beaver was fun in 1983. The next time I visited (1991?), it was still there, unchanged, and the computer graphics seemed really dated. I could do better on my home computer by then. I don't think the roller coaster simulation was actually performed in real time. It was probably a "choose your own adventure" laserdisc system. There weren't that many options.
    The touch screen technology was pretty advanced for the early 80s. It was just a grid of touch-sensitive areas on the screen, but Disney's imagineers made it colorful and fun to use.

I haven't even been to Epcot in years but this state of future world ... minus maybe Spaceship earth ... and The Land Pavilion ... is sad

    I do know they got Cornell University and the NSF to put a nanotechnology exhibit in the building. the big issue is the exhibit attractions' need sponsors' and Disney has issues keeping them interested in paying to keep them running. The Exxon one acted as the post show exhibit space that the actual energy building lacked the at&t one did the same as the original post show in spaceship earth was a epcot center guest services Center. Ironically the extra space in the communicore west could act as a replacement guest services building. The mistake Disney made was turning it in to ces the ride. Not even reporters like trade shows there pure chaos and you leave sick.

    I wonder if Apple bought Disney, would Apple bring back Innoventions?

      I meant Communicore and be updated with the future of communication and technology

      I think they would confuse 'bringing it back' with 'usurp it to _only_ showcase their own newest products'. Showing 'future' tech would mean showing it to competitors as well.
      Also THATS TERRIFYING! PLEASE LET THAT NEVER EVER EVER HAPPEN FOR THE LOVE OF-

      I miss the original Epcot, everything we grew up with, like horizon world of motion the original imagination after we rode the imagination ride we went upstairs and played with everything they had.. I didn't really care for wonders of life I do miss the original communicore and I do miss that song at the end of spaceship earth to.. I am going back to Disney Next month and you will not catch me in Epcot because only park I really care to go to is the Magic Kingdom.. I love your videos your doing about Disney, you should do a video about the best Restaurants to eat at in Disney, and one of them should be the trails end buffet in the campground, they call that place a hidden gem.. I've been there so many times if I walk in there a couple of people know me, I cannot go to Disney and not go there, best Breakfast to eat in Disney, I can't wait to go next month I love the smell when you walk in...

    I still dont know why Disney needs 'sponsors' for Epcot, dont they charge like $70 to get in there? You dont see 'sponsors' at Animal Kingdom, Universal, Magic Kingdom, MGM, or any place else... meh.

      I think Great America has or had sponsors for rides. Either way, I completely agree. I can't imagine how Disney isn't swimming in money.

      Disney has priced out the middle class and they still manage to keep the place packed.

      What the heck are you talking about? Animal Kingdom had McDonalds as a sponsor, Universal had Hess, Magic Kingdom had too many to list, MGM still has Hanes, etc.

    • @yupitsjessbbyx3
      @yupitsjessbbyx3 6 лет назад +6

      There have been talks about putting and end to the sponsorship set up, I think it’s just a sort of “tradition” left over from Epcot’s early years

      Apparently Disney isn't making enough money to keep formally sponsored rides/pavilions open, so they have to stuff their IPs in there to make more money. Don't be surprised if PIXAR comes out with a new movie starring colorful barnyard animals that becomes the next Monsters Inc. and once Chiquita drops their sponsorship of Living With The Land that Disney plugs that IP in there and renames it The Land With Angus and Pals, narrated by Angus the Cow voiced by Zach Galifianakis and Snarky the Rooster voiced by Cheech Marin.

      HanDoYT the nails disperse pressure evenly, which provides a solid backdrop for him to lie on, even when hit by a hammer. He was probably fine.
