      Tiff Prendergast meh Ik but it's now competitive. Design a car then scan it in the Simcar load out. After that all your attributes (scores) would go up to the screens. Then you would see if your car won the race at the "What's your score" big screen at the showroom. It will display today's top score

    I was lucky enough to ride both versions of the ride, once when I was much younger, and once last year. I think both designs are pretty good, and I like the competitive aspect they added (I'm a sucker for competition). Overall, the original was probably better, but only by a very small margin, as the main point of the ride, the thrill of flying on a giant slot car, has always remained intact.

      Tomoko Kuroki Same.
      I remember going on the original Test Track and it had a warehouse feel to it. However the last time I went on that version was in 2011 when I was 6 so it’s hard to remember. I love the heating and cooling rooms too. I especially also like the commentary on the ride by the testers. (Bank right,bankleft,etc). When i went on the modern version,I actually really liked it. Some Pros were:Designing your own car,Competition like you said,Neon/80’s/Vaporwave/Tron vibe,TONS of decoration,looks way better at night and Cons were:Blander Queue,Funny Pre-Show Removal,Heating and Cooling Rooms Removal,Less Of a Story, but I still think the Newer Ride is better.

    I loved World of Motion. I understand how all of the audio animatronic attractions that felt so cutting edge in the 60s-80s just won't feel the same now to younger audiences. Epcot is my favorite place but I always thought many of the original attractions felt more like museums come to life--can't expect all of that to stay intact. I am glad we have videos like this to help us remember the past that is no longer with us. Thanks.

    I love the sleek design of the new Test Track, but I miss the "crash test dummy" experience and all the different testing/industrial stuff in the queues of the old Test Track, it made waiting in the long line much more bearable than it is now.

    Funny, I was a cast member 97-98 at that time and Test Track was such a big deal but the mechanical problems w the actual individual cars 🚗 was the bigger problem. Test track was supposed to be the first fast attraction that was involved cars that operated on their own and not need an actual track guide. Each car was separately controlled by its own sensors and on board computers. That was where the issues arose. It was such a cool idea and so so different from any other ride. Also was the first on Disney property that actually drives u thru the backstage area where us cast members would have to walk thru to get to work. The cars were supposed to zoom u fast enough thru backstage that made it difficult to see the actual magic of backstage. I really miss working at Epcot and the fun the technology side of the park. I have yet to revisit Disney World since test track finally opened but hopefully the new test track 2.0 will be open when I do. Awww the memories of being a cast member in the college program, such a fun time! 🖤and miss Disney ☺️☺️☺️☺️✨✨✨

      I cracked up when they mentioned how the outdoor portion went right past the Cast Services building. I did my College Program stint at Cash Control in Epcot which was on the end of that building closest to the outdoor Track. We used to joke that we felt violated by the fact guests could routinely see quite a bit backstage, like they’d pierced our magical little bubble somehow lol.

I went back a little while ago and experienced the new test track. Slight eye roll... I'm not crazy about touch screens and lasers as I am real animatronics and moving parts. I was a bit underwhelmed especially after being so hyped to ride it again as an adult. Definitely feels more like an advertisement than excellent ride with noticeable sponsorship like test track 1

    I remember always closing my eyes in test track one because the test dummies scared me haha. By the time it was closing for refurbishment I was finally fine with them. When test track two came out i was in awe. since im a gamer and love electronic music and stuff i was a huge sucker for it and loved it and the music that plays indoors (I STILL CANT FIND THAT SONG ONLINE THOUGH). Now that I'm much older, I prefer the old one. It really was a lot better and definitely more memorable. Turns out I actually enjoy the original theme song with all the banging more lol. I find it very creative and artsy that they made music with tool sounds in it and made it work. Plus it has that old disney touch with the show room. I don't like the creating your own car. It's boring once you've done it a million times. I dont care what my score is I just wanna ride the ride. I used to love Epcot but honestly they just keep ruining it imo. It doesn't have that Epcot feel to it anymore.

      The redesign is great up until the actual show and its dissapointing. I feel adding screens along the track showing the 6 riders cars doing the tests along side you would be amazing. You would see animations of the car you designed and how it responds based on the stats you've chosen.

    • @dkerwood1
      @dkerwood1 3 года назад +1

      @@godlugner5327 My biggest issue, other than missing the "test track" component of a ride called "Test Track", is that the implication is that it's testing YOUR creation. That creates the expectation that your design will affect the ride experience. It doesn't, and it can't.
      With this in mind, I'd agree with you wholeheartedly. Let's see our cars fail the brake check because they're just too fast. Let's see them smash into the semi truck because the steering wasn't quick enough. That would be a welcome addition. Maybe throw in a line that we're riding in the pace car or something.

      It can also depend on the torque curves of the motors. Chances are that 65mph speed is close to the actual top speed of these vehicles. Electric power is great for instant power at low speeds but sucks at top-end, as electric motors generate all their torque at the bottom end and drop off linearly as RPMs increase. Maximum power is generated at 50% of full speed.

The only problem I have with the new one is that the black lights and big digital tron-like screens aren't very good, so if they they make it a little more like an industrial design facility again that would make it shine. Also maybe rework the outdoor section so it doesn't have to close in the rain

    I got to ride both versions and I love both for different reasons. The first one had a more cohesive story and the warehouse theme was cool. Reminded me of myth busters and top gear. I’ll always remember riding the of test track with my dad. Went on the new one this year with him and, well there was just something off. There’s something iconic about the 90s decor and the industrial setting that I loved. Still there are some cool qualities of the new one. For instance, there’s a road sign on the responsiveness test right before the truck telling you to “turn right to go left” a reference to cars. Stuff like that at the end of the day is what Disney is about, but nonetheless I’ll stay a fan of the og.

It was cloudy but not bad when we walked into the building, however, it started raining, that little windshield only does so much when you're going on that outside track at 60 mph. My first time to Disney World was in 2016, Test Track 2.0 already existed, but I didn't know it was updated. I had only heard of and seen pics/video of the Test Track 1, so I was surprised. I did enjoy the ride though.

    I actually think the second version of Test Track is better. Just think about it: if the point of Test Track is to get people into the car industry, then guests should be more hands-on. They have the ability to design their own car of the future, download it onto their ride vehicle, and see which car is best suited for their respective area(s). That's what I like about the second version; it's very interactive and allows guests to be creative when compared to the first version.

    Because this attraction doesn’t get a lot of traffic at night (since everyone migrates to world showcase) you can easily walk-on and if you kindly ask a cast member “can I ride again” they’ll let you ride it again as long as there isn’t a line.

    A friend of mine was one of the Engineers for "Test Track" and I could tell there were issues as over a 2 year process when we would get together to trade classic game carts(Atari, Coleco, Intellivision) he was less and less a happy guy and more and more a haggard shell of himself. After that period he said he couldn't trade anymore but needed to sell his games that he had picked up at local(Orlando,Fla.) garage sales. Right about the time they worked out the bugs I think they let the design staff go as he disappeared. I have been lucky enough to see World of Motion and the 1st design of Test Track but haven't seen the latest version yet.

    Never ridden the original test track, so I can’t say to how great it was but I don’t like the whole warehouse theme-feels kinda tacky, but I don’t have a ton of nostalgia for it so idk. I love the version we have now tho, especially the whole customizable car thing, I think I like Test Track better than Radiator Springs and that’s saying a lot😂

  • @mayanightstar

    Ugh I hate the new Test Track. There's no story! No conflict! The older version had character, and a sense of danger with the wall crash fakeout. Now it's just "woooohh look at the cool colors, oh now we're going fast! The end."

      There’s also more competition and more creativity

    • @tny1757
      @tny1757 6 лет назад +3

      Except that doesn't matter since one party per vehicle creation station could take up a majority of the car making competition pointless. Say you have a family of 4, 2 of which are children. All of them get one car. so they take up 4 seats and the remaining 2 can go to a party of 2 or two single riders. So really it's one family vs any other party in the car, not you vs. everyone in the car that designed their own vehicle.
      I do like the Create a Car aspect and can actually almost top the highest rated car of the day. But to me, it only makes waiting in line worse as you're waiting for the creation lab to open up, you're not constantly moving like the old attraction. Like if maybe it was an app on your phone and you linked your ticket or magic band to it, you can make as many as you want, save your presets, and select the current one linked to the band that'll be used for the ride, the line would theoretically go faster.
      But aside from that, the new ride TOOK MORE AWAY than it did improve or add.
      Now it's just look at the lights, not as much interaction like the hot and cold rooms, the bumpy roads, and the evasive maneuver. Nothing makes sense anymore for it to happen, like the first hill, what's the point? It was an incline test, now it's just there to go up just to go straight back down again.

    • @sislak1188
      @sislak1188 6 лет назад +2

      Mike Smith I now but sometime a party can do more than one car if they go to an empty design station

    the original test track is incomparable to anything disney changes this ride to. the original was my favorite disney ride growing up hands down. i remember getting parkhopper passes with my family so that at night when the lines were shorter, we could jump in the single rider line several times. it was the most iconic version of the ride and our family favorite. although i would still hands down ride this updated version and have once, it is not nearly as exciting as before.

    I had the fine privlidge to ride the original in May of 1999. The ride broke down 3 times on my first ride, then twice the second time!!! This gave my dad PLENTY of time to crack jokes about GM's reliability while we waited for the ride to resume. the impact of that made me NEVER want to own a GM for the rest of my life.

    I hate the new update so much!!!!Especially since if you use single rider line (like anyone that doesn’t have several hours to waste) you don’t get the opportunity to create your own car so the new “designer” theme isn’t interactive at all. Admittedly I like the weird photo op stations at the end, my sister and I had a surprising amount of fun taking stupid memey photos during our last trip.

    Little trick for Test Track 2.0 if you want to get in faster and get to use a custom car and stuff too. Go through the gift shop to the fun-whatever area you want to call it and then go to the car creation kiosk. Make the car you want and then scan your card / band to save the card to it. Then, go through the single rider line ( which is WAY faster ) and skip the premade cars. After that, you just wait in line and you get to use your custom car and everything, you don't even have a time limit to make a car. I was a big brain 9-year-old.
