I really like this guy's advice. hes educated and cost effective. thank you!!!
Thank you. Appreciate ya watching and the kind words.
Loved the video. I have a Honda HRX217HYA and a Wright Stander Intensity 36, as well as a McLane 25 inch reel mower. I love the cut of the McLane, but when it is 95 degrees with a heat index of 102 in DFW, I use the rotary mowers. It takes about 90 minutes to cut my 19k Bermuda grass lawn with the McLane, and about 45 minutes with the rotary mowers.
Thanks buddy. Quite the arsenal you've got there. That's crazy how much time you save with the rotary. Worth it when it's that hot. Appreciate you!
Excellent video all around! Great information, tips and editing. This got me ready to get back out in the lawn. I really enjoyed this one! 👍
Awesome. Glad you enjoyed it. Appreciate your feedback. It really helps. 👊👊
I like my rotary not even a self propelled I do enjoy the exercise 😅😅 happy new year Travis
💯💯👍👍 thanks buddy. Happy New Year!
Time to throw my hat into the ring. First off love the newer editing format. Nice job with that. I had 5 mowers at one point. 1 Rotary , 3 manual reel mowers, and one battery powered reel mower. Gave away my Great States 5 Blade. Use the rotary only for cleanups when doing dethatching. Love using the Earthwise 7 Blade daily during the growing season because its easy to use when only taking off the tips and love the exercise it provides. Use my Allett when want to burn in some stripes so once or twice a week for that. I will never go back to mowing high. Love the low cut look and gives me reason to be on the lawn more often. Looking forward to tonight's GF live stream .👍💚🦸
Always great insight from the one and only Striperman. You definitely got it figured out. Thanks buddy. Is it believed that I will be on the stream tonight?
@@BudgetLawns Oh I thought it was for tonight. MB I am wrong
They’re having one I believe but I never agreed to be on. I’ve got plans with some friends from out of state who are flying out tomorrow. I don’t know what they have planned.
@@BudgetLawns Got cha
Great collection! I have a refurbished 20” McLane 7 blade that I threw a Predator motor from HF on and it does great. I also have a Toro Super Recycler I use just as much for cleanup. I have pine trees in my front and back yard. So I mow once for cleanup with the Toro and finish cut with the McLane! It’s a nice combo. I also have a manual reel I’ll bring out few times a year when I do a Rye overseed and I’m cutting new grass.
Nice setup. You've got all the right tools for the job. Appreciate you watching and commenting.
Want to wish you and your family a great and successful year. Have to say, I have taken seriously with great success your comments on lawn care. I am glued to your channel. Why? What you are explaining to unskilled grass rats like me, truly works. Your conversations, will keep me from beginning to end riveted with what you say. Please understand. This is just me and my opinion only. While your explaining, I am so in tuned to you, having these funny inserts pop in, my head drops. I feel it takes away from your program. Only my opinion. Maybe I am an introvert. In any case, your channel has helped me in many ways as it has to many people watching. Stay the cause, as you are doing great.
Thank you very much. Happy new year to you and yours as well. I appreciate the kind words, support and feedback. I’m glad the channel has been able to help you out. I will definitely keep you suggestions in mind when editing videos. Maybe I’ll be able to find a balance with videos with and videos without them. Hopefully that will work for those that enjoy them and those that don’t. Thanks again. I appreciate ya very much.
Right now I think I'll stick with the rotary. Tried reel mowing very briefly and didn't really care for it. I think I just had the wrong mower. Great information :)
Thank you. Reel mowing is definitely not for everyone. It gets hyped up online but I’ve found enjoyment in rotary just as much as reel. Appreciate your input. 👍👍
@@BudgetLawns Definitely hyped up lol
You KNOW my answer!😅 Great video- especially for beginners. I can’t wait to get back in shape with mine. Gave my other one away . Sounds like I had better start looking for one now!
Thank you. So great to hear from you. Hope you're doing well and have had a great holiday season. Hope to see ya back in the lawn this next season.
@@BudgetLawns I rented out my lawn ( and house) for a year, so might be a calling for a video! Hope your holidays were great too!
Great video as always Travis! For me personally I'll stick to a traditional rotary mower for now but I'd love to at least try reel mowing at some point down the line
Thanks dude. Something fun about rotary mowing. Appreciate ya watching as always!
LOVED video as Always... SoCal fan so literally cut all year except during reseed period.. So my Briggs n Straton n served me well honestly.. 8+ YRS. Been patient n kept it 💯 n simple... as u have preached...lawn looking good 2 yrs of improving my skillzz.. Looking 2 move on 2 BATTERY.. BECAUSE well in hippie cali. We like that... And im a coach as well so like the thought of late night or Early morning (QUIET CUTS).. Any thoughts 🤔 about BATTERY MOWERS.. 1 Brand standing OUT.. NOT JUST PAID PROMOTIONAL HYPE...
O yeah rotary user 😎 I'm happy. Txs.
Appreciate ya. Sounds like you've had a good run with the B&S. Nice job on all the improvements. Makes sense on the late or early cuts as a coach. Battery would help. As far as brand goes, I'm not a brand buyer. I go with what fits my budget. I mean, I have a Troybilt rotary mower and wear cheap clothes off Amazon haha. So I'd just find what fits your financial needs. If I had to pick a brand, however, I'd prolly look at Toro first. Hope this helps. Thanks so much for supporting the channel.
Yeah, I will pass on the reel mowers!! I'm getting a rider mower for this season! Florida heat is no joke!! LOL My first mower was a reel mower and then my parents stopped torturing me and got the rotary! LOL Great video Travis!!
Haha thanks buddy. I don’t blame ya…the heat and humidity can be brutal. Appreciate ya watching and commenting my friend.
I have 2 of those Troybuilts with the Honda engines. Wanted a Honda mower for dependability without the high Honda markup, and they fit the bill! Great mowers for sub $300!
Solid, solid mower for sure. That thing is 10 years old and never skips a beat. Thanks buddy!
Shame that Honda will be out of the game next year, at least the homeowner market from what I’ve heard. Their engines are so versatile, I can’t tell you how many different contraptions from pressure washers to go carts I’ve seen that GCV 160 powering.
I'm sticking with the rotary for now, but I'm looking for something that goes really low. Some I've looked at only go down to 1.5". I want to scalp at about .75" and then maintain at 1.0". Any tips on a rotary that goes low?
Yeah, it's tough to find a rotary that goes much lower than 1.5. I think the Honda went lower than most, but from what I hear, it's being discontinued. My Troybilt goes to 1.25 so still not as low as you want. Toro makes their prostripe, which goes really low I think, but is also really pricey. Wish I had more answers for ya. Thanks for watching.
Ever since I went reel ill NEVER go back. Started with a push reel and got a gas 2 years ago. My rotary is for that heavy scalping to get it down.
Reel mowing just makes your yard look better.
👍👍 thanks man.
Would love to have a reel mower but my yard throws up a new crop of rocks every year that would kill a reel in no time. Sticking with my 17 year old HRX217.
Yeah rocks are no fun. Sounds like a track of a mower you’ve already got. Thanks so much for watching.
Manual reel mower is the perfect mower for a new lawn or after an overseeding. It's lighter and won't damage the new grass.
Powered reel mower is great for anything low (mow/dethatch) and of course killer stripes.
Rotary is great for mulching and when you want it done fast.
All great points. Appreciate ya. 👊
Thx. I have a collection of manual reel mowers. I think eight vintage ones at this point. I have a section behind my house that I plan on putting resored lawn equipment. The antique edgers are very hard to find and I only have one of them.
👍👍
Love your videos
Thanks man! 👊👍
I've got a 1962 California Trimmer. They are built to last.
That’s awesome. They’ve been around a long time. That’s always a great sign. Appreciate you watching and commenting.
Good video. Personally, I believe gas powered reel mowers are too expensive for the average homeowner. However, if you want a low cut Bermuda lawn you can’t achieve it with anything else. I’m waiting for someone to manufacture an affordable electric reel mower.
Thank you. I would tend to agree with you. Mine will be transitioned to small sections of the lawn. In fact, I could prolly go without it. I’d be interested in an affordable electric as well. Appreciate ya watching and the input. 👊👊
Quiz: What's the term used to refer to the washboard effect commonly caused by a reel--mower travelling faster than it's clip frequency allows?
🤷🤷🤣🤣 I give up. Thanks man!
Marcelling 👌
Interesting 👍👍
3 mowers!! And you call yourself ‘budget’ lawns hahahaha. Just kidding, that’s a nice variety you got there.
Haha, thank you. The Troybilt was a hand-me-down from my dad so cost me $0 lol. Those are the best kind. Appreciate ya watching man!
Can you do some study for compost tea? Worth it?
Don't know anything about it. Doesn't sound like something my level of interest in lawn care would be into. Only products that go on my lawn are fertilizers and some weed control from time to time. Sorry man. Appreciate you watching.
Like the new video, thank you!
Appreciate ya.
So is that 7 blade for sale now?
Looks like it’s in stock on Amazon. A little bit more expensive than when I got it. Thanks for watching.
@@BudgetLawns So No, not for sale.
Oh are you talking about mine specifically?
@@BudgetLawns I'm working with a 5 blade. I was just hoping I'd be able to cut the grass N-S then E-W instead of then cutting at 45* again.
Ah gotcha. Imma hang onto mine. Who knows may go back to it and get rid of the CT one day. 🤷
You da man
Appreciate ya! 👊
Self propelled or nothing 😂❤
I need the extra calorie burn. For now at least. 😂😂Thanks bud!
Damn, your fast.
Haha, on break from school. A little more time. 👊👊
I have nice collection of mowers some of which I could now do without. Might donate a couple. My 3 keepers are the Earthwise 7 blade, Allett Liberty 43 and beleive it or not my favorite mower to use is the Milwaulkee M18 rotary. Cuts super clean and I just take a metal file to the blade for 2 minutes before every mow. Now if the grass would just start growing. Yes, cutting grass is something I really enjoy and miss doing. Need some spring in my life . 👊🏼
Right on man. Sounds like we're a lot alike in our mower game. I feel ya bro. It's definitely a stress reliever for me. Creating videos fills that void a bit in the off-season. Thanks as always!
Hi Travis…3 lawn mowers…a football 🏈 team spankin in bowl game and a 🏀team ready to pounce!…you not gonna be able get that Hog shirt on!👏👏🤣🤣
I dream about that motorized reel but you know my 1.75 in rolling zoysia lawn gettin rotary pushed / cultural practiced per BL protocol..🤣🤣👍…yet I never gonna get lower…but it nice to dream…☮️ brother 👑
What a day, what a day. So many good things happening all at once. Man, nothing wrong with all rotary. I'm sure you get it looking awesome. Appreciate ya watching and commenting. Go Hogs!
@@BudgetLawns ..👏👏spectracide Jan!…I got a 4 in snow melt today brother!☮️
Stay warm my friend.
