  • @goldiebrownn7638
    @goldiebrownn7638 2 года назад +2

    If you let this plant get "leggy" (7 nodes long as a minimum) it produces beautiful little flowers every morning and they die every night. Its so tempting to cut Everthing and keep it neat but also to let it do its thing to see its true beauty. You just have to be sure that the weight of the steam can be supported without strangling itself. You can do this by checking the stems around the edge of the pot. That said. It is a great video and you have done a great job of growing this plant from cutting.

    When I bought my zebrina the man who owns the garden center said it loves shade and too much sun will cause the purple color to fade. Have you ever had this issue? I have my zebrina in my living room that has a giant south west/west facing window but it's on an end table away from direct light. I love the purple color!!! Love your video and LOVE your idea to have the zebrina on that stand...I have bowls of fruit in my kitchen on one of those and now I'm going to look for another to do that w my plants 😁🤗

    • @giventogrow8533
      @giventogrow8533  5 лет назад

      Hmmm I would say you have your plant in the perfect spot. I have never had my leaves fade in fact quite the opposite. I find the purple becomes more pronounced with more light. However if your looking into the light at the plant (plant is in front of bright light) sometimes the leaves can appear to be faded. Pull the plant back from the light source and check. I always find mine look normal when I do this and it’s just because of the way the light shines through the leaves. These plants are the best. So many ways to grow them. 💚

      @giventogrow8533  5 лет назад +3

      Thank you so much. I’m going to start doing a lot more of these “quick tip” videos. 😊 The Plant to the left is Also a Tradescantia. Tradescantia spathacea aka Oyster Plant as well as “Moses in a boat” It’s HUGE now. A very prolific grower and such easy care. Same as a Wandering Jew. Brightest light possible in Your home or they also grow outside easily. You can pull them away from the window and they will still grow like crazy but they will be quite stretched out. I highly suggest this plant. 🌱💚 Have a great day!

  • @Janellen11

    Thanks, good info. Will that work on other vining plants?

    • @giventogrow8533
      @giventogrow8533  6 лет назад +1

      Jan Alexander No I don’t think it does.. at least not one the varieties that I have grown (mostly common). Although if you have a Pothos for example and would like morenoff shoots snip off the end of a vine. It takes no time at all for that vine to start regrowing (sometimes in more than one spot) and encourages the other parts of the plant to vine faster. :)

    • @nomanejane5766
      @nomanejane5766 4 года назад

      @@shirah9582 wait, i thought that was just a pink wandering jew. i bought one recently and thats what they told me. mines has thick stems and not many leave like yours, the leaves arent quite as big as yours (its a young plant) i thought it was gonna vine so i put it in a hanging basket with two other colors of wandering jew.

    • @shirah9582
      @shirah9582 4 года назад

      @@nomanejane5766 Tradescantia does come in several colors. Yours may be one of those. The moses in the cradle or oyster plant is from Mexico, it does vine, but it looks better if it's kept more compact. That is my opinion anyway. Have a nice day.

    • @giventogrow8533
      @giventogrow8533  5 лет назад +1

      I water mine both ways from the bottom and from the top. I like to water from the bottom as it helps control fungal issues, overwatering and getting the leaves too wet. That being said it’s good to flush the soil every once and a while by watering from the top and letting the water run through a few tiles.

    I have soil gnats ( I think that's what they are called) and they have taken over my poor plant. I literally put a normal sticky fly strip near the plant and within 5 days its completely cover and the gnats are still there. I keep reading, spray ithe plant with washed down dish soap and that just doesnt sound right. Also read vinegar? Any Advice?

    • @giventogrow8533
      @giventogrow8533  5 лет назад +1

      Amy Massina YES! They are awful. Mosquito bits will be a lifesaver for you. They got rid of all my fungus gnats within a week or so of watering all my plants with the product in the water. It’s a natural organism that will live in the soil and kills off the gnats when they are consumed by the fungus gnat larvae and prevent them from maturing into adults. The adults do not live long and when you wipe out the next generation they won’t be able to continue to spawn like crazy. Make sure us use the product on all your plants even if they don’t have many gnats. The larvae will likely be in all the soil. You can also try treating the soil with a 1/10 hydrogen peroxide to water mix. Not as good as the moquito bits but it will help a bit. Do not treat any soil with mosquito bits in it with the hydrogen peroxide though.. you will likely kill the beneficial microorganisms along with the larvae. Fungus gnats are one plant pest that you absolutely can win the war on. I swear by this stuff. Best of luck!
