Nice work on the vid. Comanche 3 / Gold was the pinnacle in the series IMHO. It mixed the realism with fun gameplay pretty well. All the other ones were basically arcade shooters.
Yes, you can play Comanche Gold today and with some visual mods, there's not much more you could ask from a helicopter simulator. Comanche 2021 looks cool. It's basically a sequel to Comanche 4 and its arcady style of gameplay.
Back in 2003 I remember I was blown away by how realistic Commanche 4 looked, how the boats slowly sink and leave fuel spill in water and the big explosion effects.
Comanche 4 was one of the earliest DX 8.1 games ever made, so yeah the graphics were just wow in early 2002 when it came out. We were amazed about the rotor downwash effects and everything. Comanche turned into a really fast-paced arcade action game (not that the volcano missions of eralier version were lame, lol), sadly missing some realism Comanche 3 / Gold had.
@@earthenscience yeah it's just too colorful, similar to the NFS remake of NFS HP 2010. Comanche 4 looks a bit matte/flat nowadays, but good enough, tbh. I loved comanche gold as a kid. I really wish someone had the spare time, knowhow and desire to remaster it for modern systems. I didn't know they were still making them as of 2021 though, I figured the series died when the military canned the Comanche project.
Comanche 3 / Comanche Gold was a game driven by inspiration for the real thing, sadly that dedication towards mission details and flight realism got badly toned down with Comanche 4 to attract a bigger arcade audience. The 2021 game has somehow "broken flight controls" (?) , I just couldn't get it to work with my Microsoft Sidewinder 2 joystick and left dissapointed. It's probably not meant to be played with a joystick anyway but I refuse to use keyboard and mouse, what a disgrace. Thanks for the video, it explained a lot. For me, the series lost it's appeal when they moved away from the voxels, but I can see why they did it. I would say though that while technically you could play Commanche on a 386....... you would not want to :D
3/Gold was the best of the series, 4 felt like a step backwards in most ways, never played the 2021 version (or even knew it existed tbh but it looks a bit daft... still might be fun...
I have played both back in the day (Gunship & Comanche) and I have to say that Comanche's graphics were amazing for the time. Nonetheless, Comanche was falling more into the 'Arcade' category whereas Gunship 2000 was more of a simulator.
commanche 3 / 3 gold are the best). Funny is my first PC was purchased in 1999 but I never see commanche 3 gold before 2020. So I played dos version under win 98 for long time, still it was amazing.
1998 was and always will be my favorite. The fact that 2021 exist just urks me because it destroyed any and all realism. I didn't even know about them diving under the water just ridiculous.
I grew up playing Comanche Gold and Comanche 4. Gold still qorks on my gaming pc, but C4 runs absurdly too fast so I can't play it properly. Though I enjoy Gold for nostalgic reasons. Comanche 4 for the FPS style gameplay
Is Comanche 4 supposed to be so twitchy? I tried a demo to see whether C4 might be worth a look after going through some nostalgia plays of C1 and C3, and even with the 'trick' of forcing vsync on the game it looks and plays just comically fast.
I prefer Comanche 4, Gold and 3, in my opinion they are the best, this new comanche 2021 I just didn't like it very much because they added a lot of science fiction, putting new comanches that never existed and fictional drones, if it weren't for the addition of fiction it would be also an excellent game and would not lose its essence.
As for the original Comanche, one needs to appreciate just how beautiful those landscape graphics were for 1992.

Along with few other DOS-games, Comanche: Maximum Overkill made my childhood. Comanche 4 was also insanely good game.
Comanche Gold has the best soundtrack, I use listen to the music when I’m bored
A lot of these "Evolution" videos are low effort clickbait, but yours have some real work and passion put into them.
Thank you!
Thanks for the video, it explained a lot. For me, the series lost it's appeal when they moved away from the voxels, but I can see why they did it. I would say though that while technically you could play Commanche on a 386....... you would not want to :D
3/Gold was the best of the series, 4 felt like a step backwards in most ways, never played the 2021 version (or even knew it existed tbh but it looks a bit daft... still might be fun...
um classico !!!!!! the classic !
I still enjoy playing commanche4
Comanche four actually looks pretty good.
I had the 1992 comanche game, so good
COmanche 3 really felt like you were controlling a highly advanced badass military equipment
Comanche Gold was my first game from the saga and I loved it. Later I purchased Comanche 4, and got me disappointed.
It's amazing how, despite the more "advanced" graphical features, Commanche 4 ultimately looks less realistic than it's predecessor.
I have played both back in the day (Gunship & Comanche) and I have to say that Comanche's graphics were amazing for the time. Nonetheless, Comanche was falling more into the 'Arcade' category whereas Gunship 2000 was more of a simulator.
ty for sharing.
My fav is comanche 3...i had a lot of fun.
Grew up playing Gold, then Four. Odd direction to take 2021 in but i think i'll still give it a shot.
Once Upona Time , I upgraded my 386 DX40 sound card and 2 megabyte rams.
Comanche 4 is the peak
They also used that engine for Delta Force.
Commanche 3 was the best in series.
They made a commanche in 2021!? god damn it i'm gone play it ! The 2001 version is the first vidéo game i ever play i can't let this pass
Nice video, good job!
Thanks!
2001
One of the last snes games in development was super fx2 Comanche gold
commanche 3 / 3 gold are the best). Funny is my first PC was purchased in 1999 but I never see commanche 3 gold before 2020. So I played dos version under win 98 for long time, still it was amazing.
omg! i've played all of comanche :) and i had a great time :)
7:26 I played the PHUCK outta the Demo version of this mission.....Lost count how many times I pegged that flagpole with the blades at mission start.
gotta say, the newest one is kinda lackluster compared to C4, considering the amount of time passed between them.
1998 was and always will be my favorite. The fact that 2021 exist just urks me because it destroyed any and all realism. I didn't even know about them diving under the water just ridiculous.
Im not Really a gamer because of camanche3,i became an absolute addict, had to quit for my health and sanity, never forget it though 😊
Comanche 3 was the best
I grew up playing Comanche Gold and Comanche 4. Gold still qorks on my gaming pc, but C4 runs absurdly too fast so I can't play it properly. Though I enjoy Gold for nostalgic reasons. Comanche 4 for the FPS style gameplay
4 is my childhood
Commanche 3 so far is the best
Commanche Gold is the top of the series. After that, it goes simply down.
Had to boot from the dosk into extended 386mode or whatever. Awesome game.. cant figure out how to play it these days.
What about EECH, Enemy Engaged: Comanche vs Hokum? from around 2006. It also had mods to keep it more up to date.
1997 looks fun
1:53 Pet peeve of mine, the plural of aircraft is aircraft.
Comanche 3 Gold was the highlight of the series, it was downhill from there.
Is Comanche 4 supposed to be so twitchy? I tried a demo to see whether C4 might be worth a look after going through some nostalgia plays of C1 and C3, and even with the 'trick' of forcing vsync on the game it looks and plays just comically fast.
now we want delta force in unreal engine
I prefer Comanche 4, Gold and 3, in my opinion they are the best, this new comanche 2021 I just didn't like it very much because they added a lot of science fiction, putting new comanches that never existed and fictional drones, if it weren't for the addition of fiction it would be also an excellent game and would not lose its essence.
