I’m 56 years old and woke up this morning with this song in my head. I looked it up on RUclips and watched this. Reading the comments I realized that I was watching the treasure who brought us this song! This song was a large part of my youth and, since I awoke with it in my head, is still a part of my life today. I’m sorry that you didn’t get to be the doctor that you wanted to be, Miriam, but you give joy to this old Anglican woman’s heart when I hear your song ❤ edited to add: AAH! You also wrote “the Wedding Banquet”. We sang this yearly in our youth choir - I haven’t heard it in over 40 years and just found it while looking this song up!
Sister Miriam Therese Winter's story of how 'Joy is Like The Rain' came to be is an excellent example of God working all things together for our good. This was one of my favourite songs when I was in my Convent school choir. All these years later, I am hearing from the author of this song that it was created at the lowest point in her life. Our amazing God! Such a BEAUTIFUL song!!!
Beautiful story and song. I looked this song up on RUclips as I go through my mother's possessions. She died last week. I found a little paper with the lyrics written down to Joy Is Like The Rain. My mom loved music and I even vaguely remembered the tune to this. This is so meaningful to me today.
I’ve listed to this song since I was a kid and I’m almost 63! I know every word and still get misty-eyed!
The song of my childhood, still carrying me into my middle life...thanks MT..
I didn't recognize the name right away but as soon as it began I started singing and brought back wonderful memories of singing it at my catholic grade school in the late 60's, and it actually brought tears to my eyes! Thank you Sister Miriam Therese!
At the lowest point of her life, this song came into existence.
This is a lesson for me to always remember.... when you feel that you are at the end of your rope, God is sending you a miracle but you may not be aware of it at the moment.
Perhaps, Sister Miriam felt down and useless as she was composing this wonderful song..... little did she know that it has touched many people's lives.
This song has been a blessing to my life and I will introduce it to people.
I will introduce it to one who is far away from God.
I believe that God has and will continue to touch people's hearts through this song.
Yes, people can and will come to accept Jesus Christ through this song.
The music and words are so powerful, that I am convinced that when this song is head, bad spirits go away.
In what she felt was the lowest point in her life, was actually God manifesting a miracle in the form of this beautiful song.
Thank you Lord for this day, to see a video of MT Winter giving a background of and singing the song of my life.
Thank you sister Winter . This song is one thing that never left my memory for the last fifty years since I left Saint Joseph's Covent in Sierra Leone. This song is a source of comfort for me when things are not going so great and I'm about to cry. I like all the lyrics especially this one "Christ asleep within my boat whipped by wind but still afloat"- Thank you so much M.T Winter. I will sing this song ito bmy grandchildren and to my great grandchildren.
I love the reality in the life of Sister. Here in Uganda at our community we sing her songs and I always longed to know the origin of these very Good hymns.
May God bless
I remember hearing this song as a kid. So simple yet beautiful. Thanks for telling the story of how it came to be!
I grew up listening to this album over and over. My Uncle Joe and Aunt mary elainine introduced us to this music and their daughter, Eleanor, gave this album to them back in 1967. Eleanor was part of the Medical Mission Sisters who served in Viet Nam. Eleanor was not part of the singing sisters. I am 67 and just stumbled on this album in a thrift store,...........GOLD! The lyrics and expression of faith exuded by Sister Winter is heart warming and life changing. Que this up and the Holy Spirit will be in the room with you extolling God's Greatness. Joy is like the rain!
Wow I sang this song in Folk Group at church St Clements MD , I guess in 1974-76 I love hearing the background of it. God used you in a way you never even knew. It always brought joy to me when I sang it. THANK YOU!
And thanks to God for making you focus on your great gift of music
I was a novice when this song came out - we had and loved all her songs - but I laughed outloud at her introduction here and it adds joy to the memory of the song! I too learned three chords and could play practically everything with them...Thank you, Miriam Therese, for your honesty and songs!
Your desire to be a doctor was fulfilled when you became a healer through your music and your continued transparency. I love this intro even more than the lyrics of the song.
My mom and I always sang this in the rain. What a beautiful soul who created this song. Thank you for posting this video. I didn’t know this back story. It is now even more important to share this song with others!! God bless her!!
The nuns made us learn so many of the songs put out by the mission sisters. I am now 55, and this and the wedding banquet come out of my subconscious and I catch myself humming these all the time. I guess God want's to keep the message in my head.
I am your age. I was lucky enough to be able to play guitar and sing in my Catholic School Church and I can't tell you how wonderful that time was. Thank you for your comment.
The one song I clearly remember from school.
I wouldn’t assume God’s involved. Quite the opposite.
The song that challenged me to learn how to play the guitar some 40 years or so, I love it and I still know the lyrics by heart. Thank you Sister Miriam Therese Winter and the Sisters of St. Paul of Charity who introduced this beautiful and meaningful song in my life. God bless us all.
Learned this song in 1973 and have been singing it eversince.
Wow what else can be said but wowsers. Stick with the Lord and see what happens eh? Many kids came to understand faith through that prayer. THANK YOU AND THE SISTERS AT THE FORMER ST THOMAS AQUINAS SCHOOL IN HFX NOVA SCOTIA!
I was only 2 years old when this song came out, but as I got older, I would listen to the record over and over, and now I'm 56, hehehe!!!
Good Lord... i was 10 years old and a half... now ...almost 65.
One of my favorite childhood albums!!
Dr. Miriam Therese Winter; is the best professor I’ve had. ✝️💜🥇🎓✊🏼
Very precious, Just as in Psalm 133
1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
2 It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments;
3 As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.
1) I saw raindrops on my window, joy is like the rain. Laughter runs across my pane, slips away, and comes again. Joy is like the rain.
2) I saw clouds upon a mountain, joy is like a cloud. Sometimes silver, sometimes gray, always sun not far away. Joy is like a cloud.
3) I saw Christ in wind and thunder, joy is tried by storm. Christ asleep within my boat, whipped by the wind, yet still afloat. Joy is tried by storm.
4) I saw raindrops on a river, joy is like the rain.
Bit by bit the river grows, 'til all at once it overflows.
Joy is like the rain.

Finally!!!!
Fr Richard Rohr has talked about and written about The Universal Christ.. this song is a reminder of that.. Christ’s first incarnation was centuries before Jesus’s incarnation. All of creation is a manifestation of the divine
I recommend to the uploader of this video to go to the enhancements feature and select "stabilize"... that will get rid of the shakiness in the video!
Remember this from st Luke’s
