Mohammed Zahur "Khayyam" Hashmi, better known as Khayyam, is veteran music composer whose career has spanned several decades. Khayyam has composed music for masterpieces like “Footpath”, “ Phir Subah Hogi”, “Shagoon”,”Aakhri Khat”, “Kabhi Kabhie”, “Trishul”, “Noorie”,”Thodisi Bewafaii”, “Umarao Jaan”, “Bazaar”, “Razia Sultan” & “Lorie”. On his 91st birthday, we have released a compilation titled “Soothing Melodies of Khayyam”. The compilations has been launched by Khayyam Saab himself. This song is very difficult and so the lyrics. Only khaiyyam has the jazba to handle such poetry. But this song is not meant for ear or mind ,but for soul.

Khayaam Sahab was a composer of class calibre with all his compositions being a class ! Every song is a gem , specially Umrao Jaan music which I would say that he and all other artists were born to make this movie a reality . Razia Sultan song sung by Lataji is a class song ! He will live long in our hearts ! please note his accent and his body language during his talk . He has music embeaded in his soul and talking . Indeed a great person and human being .

Bollywood and media claim that Lata has sung her most immortal work under Madan Mohan but if you notice you would feel that Madan Mohan compositions are nowhere in front of this maestro called Khayyam saheb. Songs like Aap yun faaslo se gujarate rahe..... apne aap raaton me ...... Ae dil e naadan ..... Chori chori koi aaye......... Dikhai diye yun .... Na jaane kya hua jo tune choo liya to name a few are always superior to Madan Mohan lata songs .
The legend breathed his last,few hours ago in mumbai at the age of 92,may his soul rest in peace.
