@@UnixGuyyou’re both very humble and though you have courses you are always honest with us. Thank you sincerely. I’m working toward a life changing career move a bit later in life. I’m so excited. Thank you both again.
As someone who recently obtained both the Sec+ and Google CS certifications, I can attest that the hands-on experience with Linux, SQL, Suricata, and Python from the Google CS Course significantly boosted my confidence. Seeking more practical experience, I'm currently working on projects with various cyber tools. I'm committed to transitioning my career from the medical field into cybersecurity.
How are you doing now man? I just started my Google cyber cert. i started a week ago and i’m half way through the 3rd course. I’m really excited to get into more hands on things with Linux, SQL and Python
I’ve been in the IT industry for 28 years 24 years as a software engineer and 4 years as a security engineer. I just finished the Google Cybersecurity program and would have to say, it was well worth it. I took it really 4 months to complete about $200. I took my time and really deep into the subjects did extra researching. I have some friends that went to really expensive boot camps. One of them spent $20,000 and they didn’t even learn as much as I did.
I did the yearly Coursera program to be able to study more than juat one course. For the year was 240. After passing the Google cybersecurity certificate, I am now working on the Google IT certificate to deeper my understanding on networks and OS. I do find the IBM cybersecurity certificate to be a good way to supplement even more on the Google cybersecurity certificate. The hands on projects are enjoyable and really help with learning the information. I love hearing about how others are going through their journey. LOVE this colab and appreciate the effort to motivate the continous learning journey!
If I didn't have a job lined up that's just waiting for me to finish my Security+ before they'll take me, I'd just stick with my Google cert and start applying. Great video!
Two of my favorite RUclipsrs collaborating, awesome! I started my cybersecurity journey with wgu 7 months ago thanks to videos like yours and now today im more than 55% done with my bachelors, thank you both so much for the content you put out, it really means the world to me and many others you’ve inspired to start their cyber security journeys! Im currently working on personal labs from both your channels since im thinking of starting to apply for beginner level roles as soon as i finish them to get my first job in the industry; thank you both again for the great work you both do.
I agree with you Josh. I got more out of the Google Cyber Certification because it has more hands on real world work like actual working in SQL, Python, Kali, Linux command line and setting up Splunk account. Instead of very high level overview generic knowledge given in he Security+ certification I personal got a lot more out of the Google training.
So after you got your google why did you decide to get sec+? I’m in the middle of google now and I’m trying to figure out if I want to get sec + also or straight to work. 😊
@Lilyrosedyi I decided to get the security plus after the google certificate because it's a well-known certificate that the ATS will notice. Therefore, it gives you a slight chance to interview with recruiters. Also, after completing the google cert, you get a 30% discount towards the voucher for the sec+ exam. But I am very well that the sec+ won't guarantee a job, so that's why im doing labs and networking with others to help land a role. Hope this helps. 😄
I'm glad that by the end UnixGuy does say that he takes into value someone who is doing certification like the Google cyber security because from beginning you say most people you came across learned from experience and had no certification but I am learning from the Google cyber security a lot of stuff I covered in that 1000s of $ I paid for my masters. Where I failed is in writing my resume. My resume did not list or elaborate on my skills and practical trainings at all. But I live the roadmap which UnixGuy laid for us in such a clear way.
Am half way through the google cybersecurity course. It has a lot of practicals and I will still do the security+ certification in addition. One thing have learnt so far is that the more you learn the more you realize you don’t know much and the more you keep learning

Currently building a lab in azure with an attack vm, a target vm, a splunk server vm and a windows server vm. Its a hefty project but I'm learning more trying to be hands on than multiple choice would have ever taught me.

This is an amazing collaboration with my favorite RUclipsrs! I totally agree- I took my CompTIA exam Seven months ago, and I barely remember anything from it. 😂 It really wasn't worth the stress and money involved, especially with all the memorization of thousands of questions just to answer 75 multiple choice and a couple of performance questions. The boot camp I attended proved us with voucher cost almost $600 Canadian, and if I hadn't passed, it would have been another huge expense. Half passed on the Google Cybersecurity during my gap year before bachelor that is NOT computer science but security studies. Wondering how likely I am to have an option to work in cybersecurity in the future.
Instructions unclear, I got both in August. Also, I agree, Googles cert felt way more like it was prepping me for a job, and the S+ felt like cramming to get a check box to get past recruiters that require it. For perspective I earned Googles, then studied for S+. I would reccomend that order if you want both. Google got me about 60% of what i needed to earn S+, i only had to study for 2 weeks to fill in the rest of my S+ knowledge.
This is the first video I watch from you guys in regards to Cybersecurity. Long story short, I've been part of the Tech lay offs. I am watching the Cyber security Google certifications on RUclips before I enroll and get them officially. My question is, if getting certs isn't necessarily the main goal to become more visible for an entry level cybersecurity job, then what is it and how do I obtain it? Thanks!
@unixguy I have a long question , I am going to start a bachelors degree in networking and cybersecurity this September 2024, the country I live in the tuition for a university is nowhere near the cost in the u.s so cost isn’t a factor for me. I’ve been employed at a company for over 6 years and they have agreed to transfer to the m.i.s department/i.t department so technically when I complete my degree I would have 4 years at an entry level I.t role. I have currently completed several courses on coursera that you have recommended however I would like to know should I continue pursuing all the latest and recommended certs whilst completing my bachelors or should I wait?
@@yardy876jam8 Honestly it all depends on how demanding your program is, whether you have time left to study for certs, how well you manage your time etc
@@UnixGuy I'm in a similar situation , so if you have the time to do certs you recommend that it should be done to be as employable as possible correct?
of course not, there is no such thing as ‘guaranteed job’. Watch the videos: Start Here | Get into Cyber Security ruclips.net/p/PLdI5VHN89i7X932iFp7-M30FM9J8QHqOk

Thanks a lot, Im committed in changing my carrier and you guys make it looks that it could be even though I’m not located in EEUU and I’m a lil old for that
Is this video targetted to people who want to get into SOC ? What if someone already planning to get into Governance . Now for that do you suggest him to get a ejpt or cds ? Won't you recommend him to get a security+ and cisa cissp later . Just asking this from a grc point of view
Everyone talks about the Google Cybersecurity cert but not the IBM one. I feel like that’s as good. They also improved & added more courses to their program
Wow, I’m so excited to see all of my favorite RUclipsrs coming together to help us succeed! The Security+ certification is really important in certain areas like the Washington, DC | DMV area. Two of my hair clients who run IT staffing companies mentioned they could get me on a contract with a Security+ certification and a clearance. I currently have a Secret clearance, but for many government jobs, especially within the Department of Defense (DoD), having Security+ is the key to getting through the door. That’s why I’ve decided to focus on building my skills until I can pass the Security+ exam (but I want my next job to pay for it), just as both of you have advised in your videos. Thank you both for your guidance; it has been invaluable in helping me advance my skills.
@@UnixGuy Thank you! Next up is the Information Sec fundamentals and then onto CPTS from HacktheBox. I heard their materials are better (way better) than OSCP. Although I'll probably go for that too.
I started my cyber learning journey 2months ago and I respect both of you’all I completely agree with you criticising certifications in general however they still worth when it comes to studying their content, it gives you a series of introduction for many concepts at a fundamental level. Another I wished u guys addressed here is OKAY if the certification path is not very promising to get u a job what skills should I focus learning instead of going to chase an abstract cert.
This is an amazing conversation because I’m fighting myself on what cert to get Or where to learn Like I feel like I’ve been dropped off In a country where I don’t speak the language And I have to figure it out lol That’s how I feel when looking for certs
I did Google technical support and ComPTIA A+ at WGU which is a requirement .There is a very big difference on the course content I would chose Google technical support all the time for person who want to deep feet their legs to IT industry.
Thanks for boosting my confidence. I am on the 6th course of Google Cybersecurity Professional Certification. I also have a question, I want to be a pentester and ethical hacker and the course is to have the knowledge of entry level job, So should i prepare it and try to get an entry level job first or skip those tools and that part of the course?
Hi UnixGuy, could you critically evaluate the junior cybersecurity career pathway in skills for all (Cisco's website)?. You can do the Cisco Certified Support Technician (CCST) Cybersecurity certification after you complete the pathway. I would like your response on the course and its content.
They’re okay, they’re free so if someone doesn’t have the funds they can start there but they’re not enough, if you want a ‘pathway’ then this is what I recommend: ruclips.net/video/rz0RL4Xue-A/видео.htmlsi=hZOB3Y_n7V58fQXi
Every cybersecurity job I see has a Security + requirement to even get a chance at an interview… I have the Google Cybersecurity Certification and apparently employers don’t care. It’s frustrating as a 100% disabled Veteran that is trying to make a better life for my family but the only thing holding me back is a certification and minimum 2-5 years of experience…
sorry to hear about your situation. Not ‘every job’ wants it, but if thats how you feel then just do it. The google cert is a basic introduction to the field and not an ‘end game’ type of cert that guarantees jobs. Follow this plan if you want something structured: ruclips.net/video/rz0RL4Xue-A/видео.htmlsi=JHbKu25pbKdTwp5Y
How would you feel about a candidate if they have HTB CDSA? I'm fortunate to have the comptia trifecta+Google, but it's partially to stand out at all because the job market in my city is brutally competitive. I see very few entry roles as opposed to senior, if they aren't ghost jobs for talent pooling, but I'm really going to shogun apply as I'm going through CDSA hoping it's enough to at least get interviews. I've seen that CPTS is respected even perhaps more than OSCP, but not necessarily by HR. Will CDSA be so obscure for recruiters to be basically meaningless?
@@UnixGuy thank you for the reply and info. I feel like I'm on the right track, I've completed the Qualys training Josh recommended, and I very recently completed the prereqs for CDSA. If you're curious about metrics, just those 10 modules alone puts one at top 5% of students with 55 targets compromised, and as of this week only around 380 people have the prereqs badge on HTB. My favorites so far were 1. the Nmap module and challenge, very cool to see "stealthy" port scanning and the like. 2. The intro to Assembly module and challenge, super interesting to finally understand stack, memory, and manipulating shell code to extract a flag using less than 50 Bytes.
I’ve noticed that the IBM Cybersecurity Analyst Certification hasn’t been a significant topic in your videos. Could you share your thoughts on why that might be? Additionally, do you believe the certification provides sufficient skills and knowledge for someone pursuing an entry-level role in a Security Operations Center (SOC), or would you recommend complementing it with additional certifications?
I have reviewed it last year, browse my videos and you’ll find it. The google cert is better, and no neither are sufficient for a SOC role, they’re just an introduction to the field. You’ll need to follow this plan: ruclips.net/video/rz0RL4Xue-A/видео.htmlsi=pLej1okPh-Sd8aFO
I finished Google CS Certificate three weeks ago then decided to take Cisco's free Networking Basics free training since that's my weakest area. Both helped me pass the ISC2 CC exam. Should I still take the Sec+ ? I'm interested in IAM and was wondering what would be the next step? Thank you!
yes you can! there is no clear ‘path’ for IAM. I have an entire module about IAM in GRC Mastery (from a non-technical point of view.. so just the concepts): ruclips.net/video/C6IgksBpMF4/видео.htmlsi=-IdwcCXkOU_3P5bF and also there is good IAM coverage in the cloud security roadmap: ruclips.net/video/zFFMhpCLJi0/видео.html
People getting angry over certs is crazy. While I have certs, they are not the end all. You definitely still need experience. And more importantly, you need to be able to SPEAK on that knowledge in interviews.
Hi sir what exactly should i put on cv experience section? For Example if i did gobuster should i go ahead and put gobuster on my experience section on my CV
I reviewed it in an older video: ruclips.net/video/8gks3pe69hQ/видео.html it is fine, gives you good intro to Azure but the google is better. Both are entry level, so pick one and finish it asap and move on to more advanced things :)
Mr Josh i compared certification by comptia, Google , ibm, isc2, and Microsoft. Following is the conclusion from chat gpt. 😂 Conclusion For a balanced combination of difficulty, coverage of critical topics, practical skills, and industry acceptance, CompTIA Security+ remains a top choice. If you seek a certification with more focus on security principles and risk management, consider the Certified in Cybersecurity (ISC2). Other certifications are molded around their respective security infrastructure.
After getting the beginner certificates of its google or sec +, what would you both suggest to get next if that person didn’t want to get straight to work.
Finished security+ currently doing google cyber.... Both are good but I would recommend google cyber.... Security+ is nice to impress recruiters. At the end of the day focus on knowledge and skills.

Also, I agree, Googles cert felt way more like it was prepping me for a job, and the S+ felt like cramming to get a check box to get past recruiters that require it.
For perspective I earned Googles, then studied for S+. I would reccomend that order if you want both. Google got me about 60% of what i needed to earn S+, i only had to study for 2 weeks to fill in the rest of my S+ knowledge.
well done
This is the first video I watch from you guys in regards to Cybersecurity. Long story short, I've been part of the Tech lay offs. I am watching the Cyber security Google certifications on RUclips before I enroll and get them officially. My question is, if getting certs isn't necessarily the main goal to become more visible for an entry level cybersecurity job, then what is it and how do I obtain it? Thanks!
Follow this video and it will get you started:

🐐 🐐
I passed the Google program last fall and I’m taking security + tomorrow. I’ll be working on skills and considering purchasing GRC mastery next 😎
Good luck with it all!
Good luck 👍
Did you pass?
I passed! Now time to work on the skills!!
@@bentech2023 nice, congratulations
I have both the certifications !🎉❤
well done
Hi..I just finished google cert and was planning to do the comptia sec+...if i was to do another cert instead which should i do?

Best cyber mentors I appreciate this informative video 🙏🏽🔥
🙏🏻
I’m studying for my CompTIA 701. If I were to get that and google. Will it be guaranteed that I can work for google in cybersecurity?
of course not, there is no such thing as ‘guaranteed job’. Watch the videos:

Nice to listen both ,but at end conclusion of this video google cyber cert It's make more sense in terms of content and hands on lab and It's pocket friendly for beginner s.
On my personal opinion I'm doing google cyber cert and currently I'm in my last cert and I have practical knowledge with skills like python linux
and hope soon, I will share my success story with unix guy
Can’t wait to hear your success story!
Experience Is King!
💯
THIS IS HISTORIC!
🙏🏻😆
Great. Video thanks, i already passed Sec+, and i felt robbed paying that much money but oh well i will continue my training in other platforms
dont feel bad, it will come in handy! keep learning and you’ll make all that money and more!
LEGENDS
What an irony that one of the founders of the Internet has been working at Google since 2005. A bunch of pissed colleagues might have CompTIA sponsorship. Brave of both of you!
😆
Thanks a lot, Im committed in changing my carrier and you guys make it looks that it could be even though I’m not located in EEUU and I’m a lil old for that
it is possible but career change is difficult at any age, it will require effort and work
Is this video targetted to people who want to get into SOC ? What if someone already planning to get into Governance . Now for that do you suggest him to get a ejpt or cds ? Won't you recommend him to get a security+ and cisa cissp later . Just asking this from a grc point of view
For governance, do this:
ruclips.net/video/C6IgksBpMF4/видео.html
Everyone talks about the Google Cybersecurity cert but not the IBM one. I feel like that’s as good. They also improved & added more courses to their program
I’ve discussed it in an older video
@@UnixGuy Found it. Just watched it 😅. Thanks!
Thank you both for your guidance; it has been invaluable in helping me advance my skills.
well done! yes if you’re in DC then it makes sense to get it :)
I’m in DC too and interested in gaining my clearance. Good luck to you!
Just finishing up the google cert. It's pretty good ..
👏🏻
@@UnixGuy Thank you! Next up is the Information Sec fundamentals and then onto CPTS from HacktheBox. I heard their materials are better (way better) than OSCP. Although I'll probably go for that too.
Love this one too
I started my cyber learning journey 2months ago and I respect both of you’all I completely agree with you criticising certifications in general however they still worth when it comes to studying their content, it gives you a series of introduction for many concepts at a fundamental level. Another I wished u guys addressed here is OKAY if the certification path is not very promising to get u a job what skills should I focus learning instead of going to chase an abstract cert.
you make good points! I do agree that certs give you a structured way to learn a subject :)!
Good content! coming from someone who has a Google Cybersecurity Certification
🙏🏻
This is an amazing conversation because I’m fighting myself on what cert to get
Or where to learn
Like I feel like I’ve been dropped off
In a country where I don’t speak the language
And I have to figure it out lol
That’s how I feel when looking for certs
Follow this plan, it’ll make life easier:
ruclips.net/video/rz0RL4Xue-A/видео.html
I did Google technical support and ComPTIA A+ at WGU which is a requirement .There is a very big difference on the course content I would chose Google technical support all the time for person who want to deep feet their legs to IT industry.
A+ is a waste of time
@@UnixGuy yes it is am doing it because it is a requirement otherwise google certs are great.
Two great great I like to hear 😊 in this industry 😊

Thanks for boosting my confidence. I am on the 6th course of Google Cybersecurity Professional Certification. I also have a question, I want to be a pentester and ethical hacker and the course is to have the knowledge of entry level job, So should i prepare it and try to get an entry level job first or skip those tools and that part of the course?
you’ll need to follow this plan:

@@UnixGuy thankyou again🙏
Great video
Thanks!
Hi UnixGuy, could you critically evaluate the junior cybersecurity career pathway in skills for all (Cisco's website)?. You can do the Cisco Certified Support Technician (CCST) Cybersecurity certification after you complete the pathway. I would like your response on the course and its content.
They’re okay, they’re free so if someone doesn’t have the funds they can start there but they’re not enough, if you want a ‘pathway’ then this is what I recommend:
ruclips.net/video/rz0RL4Xue-A/видео.htmlsi=hZOB3Y_n7V58fQXi
@@UnixGuy Thanks for the insight
Discord channel link was expired would you update it ?
its working, get it from unixguy.com
Every cybersecurity job I see has a Security + requirement to even get a chance at an interview… I have the Google Cybersecurity Certification and apparently employers don’t care. It’s frustrating as a 100% disabled Veteran that is trying to make a better life for my family but the only thing holding me back is a certification and minimum 2-5 years of experience…
sorry to hear about your situation. Not ‘every job’ wants it, but if thats how you feel then just do it.
The google cert is a basic introduction to the field and not an ‘end game’ type of cert that guarantees jobs. Follow this plan if you want something structured:
ruclips.net/video/rz0RL4Xue-A/видео.htmlsi=JHbKu25pbKdTwp5Y
How would you feel about a candidate if they have HTB CDSA? I'm fortunate to have the comptia trifecta+Google, but it's partially to stand out at all because the job market in my city is brutally competitive. I see very few entry roles as opposed to senior, if they aren't ghost jobs for talent pooling, but I'm really going to shogun apply as I'm going through CDSA hoping it's enough to at least get interviews. I've seen that CPTS is respected even perhaps more than OSCP, but not necessarily by HR. Will CDSA be so obscure for recruiters to be basically meaningless?
watch this:
ruclips.net/video/wLgkX6F3ZDA/видео.html
You’ll need to follow this plan:
ruclips.net/video/rz0RL4Xue-A/видео.htmlsi=pLej1okPh-Sd8aFO
I finished Google CS Certificate three weeks ago then decided to take Cisco's free Networking Basics free training since that's my weakest area. Both helped me pass the ISC2 CC exam. Should I still take the Sec+ ? I'm interested in IAM and was wondering what would be the next step? Thank you!
yes you can! there is no clear ‘path’ for IAM. I have an entire module about IAM in GRC Mastery (from a non-technical point of view.. so just the concepts):
ruclips.net/video/C6IgksBpMF4/видео.htmlsi=-IdwcCXkOU_3P5bF
and also there is good IAM coverage in the cloud security roadmap:
ruclips.net/video/zFFMhpCLJi0/видео.html
@@UnixGuy Thank you!
People getting angry over certs is crazy. While I have certs, they are not the end all. You definitely still need experience. And more importantly, you need to be able to SPEAK on that knowledge in interviews.
tell me about it! I have grown men getting offended because someone dared criticised a cert they hold 😂
@@UnixGuy Keep up the videos though. And thanks for contributing to the community!

thars correct, we touched on DoD requirements in the video :)
Any insight on the Microsoft Cybersecurity Analyst Professional Certificate on coursera? Is it comparable to Google's course & cert?
I reviewed it in an older video:
ruclips.net/video/8gks3pe69hQ/видео.html
it is fine, gives you good intro to Azure but the google is better. Both are entry level, so pick one and finish it asap and move on to more advanced things :)

Mr Josh i compared certification by comptia, Google , ibm, isc2, and Microsoft. Following is the conclusion from chat gpt. 😂
Conclusion
For a balanced combination of difficulty, coverage of critical topics, practical skills, and industry acceptance, CompTIA Security+ remains a top choice. If you seek a certification with more focus on security principles and risk management, consider the Certified in Cybersecurity (ISC2).
Other certifications are molded around their respective security infrastructure.
👍
After getting the beginner certificates of its google or sec +, what would you both suggest to get next if that person didn’t want to get straight to work.
follow this:
ruclips.net/video/rz0RL4Xue-A/видео.html
Finished security+ currently doing google cyber.... Both are good but I would recommend google cyber.... Security+ is nice to impress recruiters. At the end of the day focus on knowledge and skills.
good job!
What are your opinions on the ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity in comparison to the Google certificate?
CC is a basic introduction, it has a lot less matrtial than google’s.
What’s peoples thoughts on TCM SecurityCerts? Are those skills taught in their courses enough to be “job ready”?
I like their flag ship penetration testing cert ‘PNTP’
