What a challenge for a countertenor to tackle Mahler songs! By nature of their instrument they don't really posses the wide range of colours, the depth or voluptuous sound that suitable female mezzos and contraltos have at their disposal.
It is therefore even more admirable with what subtlety, sensitivity, and great attention to detail in phrasing and wording you make this beautiful song and poem come truly alive. Can't wait to listen to the entire CD.
That's a HUGE HUGE Generalization you just made!! Do you know every countertenor on the planet?? Have you even listened to David Daniels or Iestyn Davies?
@@thesaucegroup1877 triggered much? I've often seen both love in performance. What is your point ? Have they sung much Mahler? Of course I'd be interested in other counter tenors who sing Mahler or who have a voice as opulent as famous Mahler mezzos, say Maureen Forrester, Christa Ludwig or Kathleen Ferrier.

@@thesaucegroup1877 In my opinion any kind of pigeon-holing and stereotypical thinking is a sign of a small mind. But it is always wonderful if some artist succeeds in smashing those know-it-all's fixed opinions, and Alois seems to have accomplished exactly that, so KUDOS to him!
