In June of 1979, we moved from Tennessee up to Missouri. We moved to Clarksville, Mo, which is right on the Mississippi River and at Lock and Dam 24. In August, President Carter and his family traveled about the Delta Queen. I was in the crowd that day, and being a Boy Scout had a birds eye view. The President disembarked the River Boat and walked through the crowd. At 12 years old, i had never seen such a famous person. In that crowd was a man who shook the Presidents hand. Some twelve years later, I would marry that guys daughter. It was amazing to see a President of either party. My father in law was a lifelong fan of President Carter. Rest in Peace Mr President.
President Jimmy Carter was a humble man. Never forgot where he came from and did his best to ensure that the American people of all race and color were treated fairly. Now you can rest.
