  • A quick demonstration of how I have installed several Walthers layout control system switch machines on my N scale layout as well as demonstrating how to easily power turnout electrofrogs with Atlas code 55 track using the onboard switches.

Very interesting video, I built a drilling jig for my Walters switch machines, and used a different screw and two sided tape to secure, some good tips

Great video! I love my Walthers switch machines. I find it interesting that you installed the throw bar on the outside and not the inside, very neat idea. I’m HO and put it in the inside. Lots of sweating and swearing. Haha. I also watched your panel video, love it. Did you use the Walthers LED lights? Did you have a hard time getting the right ones green? These machines can do so much but I find there isn’t much online about their potential. Keep up the good work! -Mark

Thanks Mark, with N scale, the throw bar has to be on the outside because of the way he track is built (At least with Atlas track) I think HO usually has a pre drilled hole between the rails? With the panel I didnt use Walthers LED/buttons, I used some BI-color LED's I bought. Getting the correct color was as easy as just putting it in the correct hole on the panel since there was 2 LED's wire reverse of each other. I plan to do another panel video in the future with an explanation of the wiring for the backside of the layout. I couldn't agree with you more on the capabilities but lack of information. Walthers has a ton of info on these switches on there site but yet it still seems lacking on some details.

Mark I found the best way to get the green correct is to reverse the mounting of the switch machine

That is one thing I had trouble with powering the frog, using the micro switches built into the switch , I just remounted four switches on my crossovers , any tips on verifying the correct wiring would be great, going to subscribe to your channel. I plan to do a video on how I install the Walthers switch machines , great video

Well I can tell you how I figured my wiring out on the frog was just running a loco over it and if it shorted my system, I knew the wiring was backward. Perhaps not the most ideal way but I know my system has built in short protection. Once I knew one I could adjust depending on the orientation of my switch machines relative to the turnout. I am sure there is a better way perhaps with a multimeter but I'm not super knowledgeable with mine currently. Look forward to your video, I feel Walthers machines don't have much info out there compared to others like the tortoise.

@@DanB80TTS going to look into this frog power again, trial and error is ok , my crossover section does not have easy access once installed, but will try again
